Okay, I just watched Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. All I can say is "wow". I hate musicals, so my expectations were as low as Jake99's sanity. I actually liked it though . I was shocked. Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter were both amazing. Has anyone else seen it and what do you think about it? Also, anyone from the London area, how well known is the legend of Sweeney Todd and is it generally believed to be true, false, or somewhere in between?

I haven't heard anything about the authenticity of the story but I did really enjoy the movie. I figured I'd hate the musical aspect (And the singing at some point would pop out of nowhere) but most of the songs were excellently done. Think Depp and Carter's voices surprised me the most.

What I also didn't expect was how violent it was. Expected a few PG-13 violent scenes but it quickly went from PG movie to a decent R. Loved the ending as well though I kind of called it from a while off.

Believe the movie's still on Meelu for anyone interested. Really is worth it.

Good idea, why should an artist get paid for his or her work. We should all be able to see it for free. Come to think of it, why should you get paid for the work you do? I assume you have a job, since you don't think people should be paid for their work perhaps you should think about giving back your pay check.

Meelu has been mentioned on this site quite a bit before. Considering how many people download torrents and utilize other forms of file sharing today it's not a surprise that this stuff is so easily accessible.

I do think people should be paid for their work, but calling this "work" is a bit much. These people are paid millions of dollars for work that is easier than anyone's job here. They receive worldwide recognition for being good at what they do while doctors, policemen, firemen, and teachers are all left with meager wages. If Johnny Depp and Tim Burton were living paycheck to paycheck I'd make sure to buy the movie for their sake, but they're not and I can guarantee their houses (notice the plural) are all bigger than mine.

Don't think yourself as being in the right for helping to fund an industry that ritually gets more than it deserves.

So, because a lot of people do it, that makes it okay? (Hmm... interesting, lots of people smoke marijuana, I guess that makes it legal?) Because they make more than you, it's okay for you to steal from them? (You may make more than me, does that mean you are fair game?) You have quite a twisted logic. In your world it would seem that any homeless person would have the right to take another persons house because "they make more than I do".

No, I'm simply commenting on the fact that it's not like I went out of my way to watch the movie. It's openly available.

Theoretical time. Let's say you do your job. Some guy comes in and gets paid 10x what you do to pretend to do your job and is then known worldwide for having pretended to do something. I'm not stealing from them at all. I watched a video. In all likelihood I will still buy the DVD.

No. Not at all. I love how you're twisting my words though.

Listen, I've made my own movies and record music frequently, I'm not saying I'm good but if someone truly wants to hear my work I wouldn't feel right charging them. "Yeah, pay me $15 or you're not free to listen". If Johnny Depp and Tim Burton (Like I said before) were making an honest and fair wage from their work and had no other means of surviving I would make a point of paying the money I could to see their works. But do you honestly think they're losing anything because X amount of people saw their movie on a website?

Oh, God. Poor Johnny, he might only be able to own three houses across the world. Boo hoo. And Tim, great director, but he's only getting $10 million to direct his next movie. Excuse me while I cry in a corner.

I think it is time to agree to disagree. I believe that piracy is bad and as a general rule people should obey the law.

As far as does Johnny Depp lose anything? Yeah, but not much. I on the other hand lose everyday because of it. I own a video store and it is quite difficult to make a living when everyone thinks that it is okay to break the law and simply take what they want. If it were me, I'd say let's give all of those pirates the closest shave they'll ever know.

Back on topic: Sweeny Todd, Great flick. Buy it or rent it, if you want to watch it free go to a friends house who bought it or rented it. Or if you are going to steal it, have the balls to walk in to a store and actually steal it.

I was about to suggest that. Sorry if I came off as abrasive. I have only seen a handful of movies in my life that I have not paid for but I have an increasingly hard time feeling sorry for the creators.

I understand that and apologize, but know that I still do dish out hundreds upon hundreds of dollars a year on movies. I have a fairly extensive collection and I'm always sure to give back to the stores.

I resent that

But yes, very good flick. Worth a buy in my eyes.

It wasn't directed at specifically you, just at illegal movie downloaders in general. If you're interested in free T.V Shows that are perfectly legal I suggest www.Hulu.com (http://www.Hulu.com)
