I agree, Olddragon. A rant can start by any difference in opinion...anywhere on the forum. I just don't appreciate severe racism or talking idly of raping a woman, be it feigned or not. As far as sexuality goes, I think it's safe to say that EVERYONE enjoys a good sexual discussion from time to time (some more than others). No need for a separate section for THAT topic! Now one idea to consider is a fight thread- where dip-shits who turn every topic into a thread all about their petty disagreements could have those arguments moved there and they could battle it out.
Only the posts that are off-topic and pure ridiculous pot-shots would be moved there, thereby preserving the integrity (or what-not) of the rest of the thread.

While I can't read certain members posts I can only imagine WHY we need a stupid section like rant section. I think I asked for one a long time ago but now that I have been here a few years I don't want one. Its a place where a one of two things would happen:

A. Moderation would happen alot.
OR
B. Moderation would happen a little.

Because it seems some people seem to have a little leeway (sp?) with the mods.

Once again I point out certain members who don't really and anything but the ability to insult other members and thats about it. I wouldn't mind this. This way once again "certain members" can go fight and makes themselves feel special and stop clogging the forums with their anger towards everyone. Although this probably at some point will turn into a moderation thing because new members will think everything is true that is said in it.

As for a sexual section. Eh. Theres only really a need for it if your a little over addicted to having to talk about it all the time. AO afterall has a diffrent theme. Sex kinda throws it off. Unless you want to make it about Apocolyptic sex? Maybe zombie sex? How about conspiracies about sex? lol

this way those who get stressed reading the Thunderdome postings can go to Thorazine and be mellowed out.

Why should he be banned? Frankly, I think that banning is akin to censorship, yes, I know it's a private board, yada yada yada, but STILL, I HATE TO SEE PEOPLE BEING BANNED. One of the things I really like about this site is that banning is so rare. Now I hated it when a lot of people I liked left the forum, but that is something someone does by choice.

I really don't like people being banned either. I would rather they only be banned if they are complete and total idiots.

But it seems alot of new members get banned right away. Grant it they tend to do stupid things like spam or be stupid. But I don't know how what they do is worse then what Perf does. Go click his posts. All he really does is either talk about perverted things or mostly just bash people and really nasty too.

To me unless your going to be a USEFUL, contributing member that can at least get along with people then you should be banned....or warned THEN banned. Not to mention new members will see how much hes gets away with and wonder what kinda of lack of rules we got around here, especially when we ban new people but not old members who just seem to hang around and harass other people.

I don't know how anyone else feels about this, but I personally think a Rant or Vent forum would be a great idea.

It wouldn't need to be specifically about ongoing battles between posters, although no doubt it would be a huge part OF it, but it could also be a place to go when you have had a really shitty day in general and just want to have a bloody good SCREAM!!

Somewhere somebody put forward the idea that we could do more to make new members feel welcome and less shy. I thought it was in this thread but now I can't find it.
Well at any rate, I like the idea of a 'welcoming committee'. I think its great the way people take the time to respond to the Introduction threads. But some people do join and lurk for ages before they ever get the guts to post.
Why not send them a pm welcoming them, to kind of break the ice?
People tend to have a lot of questions about things such as posting pics and when to get an avatar. It would be good to have people who are willing to help navigate, kind of as a guide. Does that make sense?


I like a lot of these ideas, but I'd want to shy away from having too many topics. This place is huge already. Maybe some could be merged?
BUT that being said, something I wish we had was a "news" section that was about being proactive. We have a lot of doom and gloom threads, and we need them of course, because Doom and Gloom is where its at, babee! :D
But for balance, it would be good to have a place separate from, but close to, those types of threads so we can see that there are real people working on real solutions that we might be able to take part in or support somehow. We need to get the word out on these very good efforts. To give some energy to what's positive, you know? What we can DO.
We sometimes post about these in the News thread, but they always end up getting buried under the "OH FUCK!!! WE"RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!!" threads and that can sure be defeating.

And yeah a rant thread is a good idea, upon thinking. But NOT a thread where we save retarded and pointless posts by trolls. However I do see what dba mentioned, that when the mods move some posts to the thread, some whiney ass will surely complain about it at some point. And our mods have it pretty rough here already, so that is something to think about.

Actually I change my mind. We do need a rant section. This way if people want to make fools of themselves, such if they want to fight with each other, I can avoid the section and when people complain I can say "See, I didn't post there, thus proving I am innocent".

But aside from that it could be good to rant about other things but then again isn't that what we do in the other sections like "WTF did Bush do now?" or "New law passed...". I think really maybe the rant section needs to be made for member on member things.

But anyway, I like it. just make sure you would put some kind of warning, like: "if you are an offended pussy and are scared of taboos, dont click", which should keep all pissy people out who are always getting offended.
