I think this technology could be in your car or home within the next 10 years.

This article also talks about making large amounts of hydrogen.... can this also be used to make hydrogen liquid fuel?

Solar power is ultimately limited by the fact that the solar cells only produce their peak output for a few hours each day. The proposed solution of using sunlight to split water, storing solar energy in the form of hydrogen, hasn't been practical because the reaction required too much energy, and suitable catalysts were too expensive or used extremely rare materials. Nocera's catalyst clears the way for cheap and abundant water-splitting technologies.

Nocera's advance represents a key discovery in an effort by many chemical research groups to create artificial photosynthesis--mimicking how plants use sunlight to split water to make usable energy. "This discovery is simply groundbreaking," says Karsten Meyer, a professor of chemistry at Friedrich Alexander University, in Germany. "Nocera has probably put a lot of researchers out of business." For solar power, Meyer says, "this is probably the most important single discovery of the century."

if you can collect enough gaseous hydrogen then liquifying it is just a matter of processing.

cool development -- but I can also foresee competition between rival groups (those using algae to extract CO2/produce biofuel and the Hydrogen Farmers) to gain access to the necessary 'lands' to build their refineries.

or maybe Both processes could be streamlined together ... creating both hydrogen and biofuel while extracting CO2 in vast quantities ...

I am considering buying an alcohol driven fuel cell to run my motorhome utilities( sold my house and moved in) it produces 1000 watts and no exhaust other than water. A tad bit expensive compared to common generators, but super clean, and "0" noise.

Sweden is currently producing larger cells for powering municipal buildings, vary cool stuff.

I'm worried about this new discovery getting snuffed out. If this is something that can't be metered, it may never see the light of day. I hope I'm wrong.

Go for it! But maybe investigate this new thing too, as you are probably going to need a different kind of solar panel than what's currently available.

I use to work in a chlorine plant, H2 was a by product, you really had to be careful with O2 or CL2 getting into the stream, and vise versa. Can you say boom!

I don't know his name. But he says we will have solar power in the next five years that will ....power ever thing. Not sure about the battery thing.

It's easy to get carried away with all the doom and gloom ..... and forget just how innovative and inventive Mankind is ..... when the SHTF, we have a talent for finding a solution to the problem !!
