Is Easter a significant religious time in your house? Even when I was very young and the family still went to church it was never religious. The celebration was about the Easter Bunny and subsequent egg hunt; Jesus' name wasn't even mentioned. This is very interesting, since Easter is probably the more important of the two major holidays (Christmas & Easter). Comments?

We have to go to church like 5 times a day!

My son and I color eggs and do other things because they are fun. We dont "celebrate" any of the religious holidays including easter.

When I was really small and living with my grandparents, easter was just another day. When I moved in with my mom and step-dad we got baskets full of candy, colored eggs, had easter egg hunts. We also had another bizarre tradition that my step-dad created. I don't even remember how it came about. Every easter there would be a stuffed bunny hanging somewhere in the house or yard from a rope around its neck. For some reason we would get very excited about being the one to find the dead bunny. No wonder I'm so messed up. Never had to go to church though.

My parents are slack. Never any church or mention of religion. It's great! :D

Uh, will we be playing dead bunny next year? If we do I want a real one so at least we have something for dinner. :yeah:

It is more of a religous holiday for my Mom. We go to church and then go to lunch at some place nice. Not much different than any other sunday except we exchange cards and the restaurant we go to is more up scale then Dennys. Mom does the whole holy week and lent ritual. Goes to the lent services on Wednesdays, then the Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services. I usually only go on Sunday.

I think being involved with church is my Mom's social life. As for me...

If my mother was going through one of her religious phases, then it would be church services that year. Normally though, it was Easter Baskets and good eats. Nowadays, its just another day at work. Which is how it should be with my current belief system.

Yeh.... well christmas isn't exactly a christian holiday, but let's not get into that now.

Although my parents are pretty slack as far as church and everything, my grandma tends to be a strong catholic. Which usually means a church service every christmas eve and sometimes easter.

I've gone through a few of them over the years and I can't see how even a religious person could be interested. I don't know about every other church, but the christmas services of the church nearby are always the same.

Church boys come out with candles and stand around. Sing hymns. Listen to the birth of jesus story. Sing hymns. Pray. Sing Hymns. Sing Hymns. Pass around the collection plate. People that want to eat those little church thingys get their chance, then it's more hymns.

Painful to endure, but I don't think my grandma would appreciate having an atheist grandson....... :nono:

"Eat those little church thingys"

Hahahaha, I think you have to eat htos unless you have commited a "grave sin" like having sex with another woman other than yer wife.

"collection plate"
Hahahahaha.

Your rigght, I cant imagine how people are interested, I use church as self-reflect time.

Yeh, I'm not exactly sure about everything that goes on, but I endure it for the sake of family....

I feel sorry for you youngsters! But then again, enjoy your youth while you can. Tis a small amount of time out of your lives that you have to endure the hypocrisy. Respect your folks if they are decent people cause someday they wont be here. Now I see a holiday as something that Ill never share with my mom again rather than being with her.

Im assuming that you both survived easter in the keester ok, eh? LOL

The eucharist (church thingy) is symbolic of the the last supper where Jesus portrayed the bread and wine as his body and blood, if I remember correctly. You take the eucharist as a sacrament and represents you taking the body of Christ. You can't take it unless your baptised...not if you commited a great sin.
Church isn't that bad depending on which you attend. I find (hate to sound racist or whatever but I don't know what word to use) the "white" churches tend to be rather mind numbingly boring, while I've found that the black churches are a lot more fun. The people just get into it more. Not to mention I attended one where reggae music was being played for the hymms they used and it was actually sung with passion and was very interactive with the people. All in all, depends on the church.

Ill admit that when I did go to church it was a rocking good time at the black churches than at the stiff upper lip white churches I went to. Then I got smart and now I dont hang with that guilt trip at all. Whew!
