lol! Say goodnight, mosquito scum!
A new way to kill mosquitoes (and fight malaria): shoot them out of the sky with a laser.

Apparently this will be tuned to only release enough energy to smoke a mosquito, which will tumble out of the sky in a ball of flames, then simmer and burn out on the ground. It even can distinguish between the sexes of the mosquito by the wing flap frequency.
Pretty sweet. Can't wait till they go on sale (if they ever do, that is...). It will be a dream come true for me. :D

O...M...G!!! Mosquitoes be damned, I shall smite thee with my laser of DOOM. No longer will I have to endure the flitting of your wings in my ears and no more shall I have to succumb to you vampiric lifestyle, leaving your itchy mark of consumption on my flesh to be annoying and agonizing. Fantastic. Lord knows I will be outside in force at night shooting down the bane of my existence, the mosquito. Watching, delightfully as their little bug carcasses plunge to the ground in a blaze of massive defeat. MWAHAHAHA... I CAN FEEL THE POWER.
But seriously, what will be left for the poor bats to eat?

hee hee - eat hot laser death you little vermin!
I'd have thought that the transmission of that much energy at once would just make the insect explode from internal steam build up rather than catch on fire. that would be as satisfying as seeing little flame-lets trailing tiny comet trails of smoke and less dangerous in regards to accidental ignition. like popping sesame seeds, lol.
proff - no laser system, no matter how efficient, would kiil All the skeeters. and if there's way to many skeeters then the bats and the lasers would both be cutting huge dents into the problem but not necessarily solving it.
I would program limiters and zones of fire though - if these things are being installed in villages I'd hate to have one 'flash' me through a chance coincidence. even if the skeeter absorbed most of the energy the spillover would be enough to get your attention of it hit you in the eye, say.
pretty soon we'll be buying flying roomba things with lasers and radar to keep our backyards free of twilight pests - now everyone go to;

How long do you think it will be before some clever dick managed to tune one to fry things other than mosquitos?

HAHAHA, in my household? Within hours of purchasing the device. Gives a whole new meaning to laser tag doesn't it?

Lazer ignites mosquito.
Mosquito ignites bedsheets.
Bedsheets ignite room.
Fire brigade called to house to extinguish fire with lot of water.
Water collects in stagnant pools.
Pools attract other mosquitoes to lay eggs.
Eggs hatch resulting in even more mosquitoes.
Any more bright ideas, Microsoft?
Perhaps you should spend more time fixing the bugs in Windows before starting on the bugs in real life.

I'd definitely buy one if I could get my hands on it. Wouldn't be long though before I end up using it for other things (hey, my neighbors get on my nerves occasionally). Annoying winged insects, annoying bipedal humans....... same thing in my book ;D
