Are male's role in reproduction going to be obsolete one day? This mouse has two mother's but no daddy. Okay, there's more to it than that but still .....
Here's the story (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,117793,00.html)

Why the hell would anyone want to get rid of men? :grin

I dont think "getting rid" is the issue here... More a refinement of the breed, so to say. A step they call "research" on the road towards the "Herrenvolk" (google the term, and you'll see what I mean by that..)

It is indeed quite an interesting breakthrough, I don't quite see the practical uses though.

I hope not, cos if males are phased out, we will be a society dependant on science and technology to reproduce. Not a good thing in the long term, with all the things that could go wrong with science and technology...

Perhaps it could be used to prevent STDs? In countries with high aids rates and whatnot it might prove useful?

I read an old sci-fi novel full of short stories. Some of the material came from the late 40s. To go back and look at it now, a whole lot of those stories were prophetic. One of the stories was that society had outlawed heterosexual unions. So of course one heterosexual couple were on the run. Another story was that men and women lived apart in seperate societies. The two races would elect a few prime candidates from each side (Eugenics?) for mating rituals every year or so. The male children were given to the males and vice versa. As a youngster, these ideas seemed farfetched to me. Don't know anymore..........
