I wrote a song when I heard a song by 98-degrees, I think it was. It was to the tune of 'HARDEST THING' kinda/sorta/maybe and the words were something ...
When We Were Babies
When we were babies … saw each other’s face
Our time had come … to … join the human race
I watched you closely in your mama’s arms
First grins and burps and farts! Turnin’ on the charms!
If there’s such a thing … love at first sight
I fell in love with you that very first night
They say in life … true love comes just once
So I tried to tell you with my baby grunts
It’s the hardest thing we ever had to do
Reach out our little hands … and try to say ‘I love you’
It’s hardest thing we ever had to try
Parents took us off to bed … big tears as we cried
When we were three, I saw you one more time
Pretended all day … that you were mine
Playing ‘Kissy Face’ … and sitting in the sand
Hand in hand … we chase the Boogie Man!
Then adults came and made it Judgment Day
One more time … they carried you away
As I watched them, I finally understood
I would always hate that thing called ‘adulthood’
It’s the hardest thing I ever had to do
Not knowing where you went … pretending I don’t miss you
It’s the hardest thing I ever had to lie
Holding feelings in … knowing you’d survive
A Summer Camp … a ranch, we were teens
Time had changed … so many dreams
You said you fell in love … with a woman
Today you put … a wedding ring on her hand
Months passed, she had a baby just the other day
And you could hardly wait till Baby learned to play
I saw your eyes … the tenderness and care
I said ‘congrats’ … Did you know I was there?
It’s the hardest thing she’ll ever have to do
Reach up her little hand … try to say she loves you
Don’t be afraid … to teach her how to play
Don’t you remember? … Camp starts again in May
…
We weren’t forgotten … as time moved on!
Boogie Man came back! World War at dawn!
I lost my life … you still aged so fair
I adored your wrinkles … and your gray hair
A cheer went up as the war came to an end
You stood at funerals … burying your old friends
Sometimes at night … you’d make a wish on a star
Did you look for me, Old Man? I wasn’t that far
So when you’re old … look at THE MOON
You’ll think of loves lost … tears will come soon
Buckets full … might … completely fill your eyes
As you think of loves … you had to tell ‘good-bye’
I’m the face in the moon … your face was sad and long
Memories flood your mind as you wait for dawn
If my face in your mind caused one tear to grew
Then even in your smallest tear, I’ll know you love me too
It’s the hardest thing … REACH OUT YOUR BABY HAND!
Had to do … LEARN TO LOVE AGAIN!
There’s no alone … IN LOVE GRIPPED TIGHT!
Gonna love you … ALL OF MY LIFE!
Don’t be afraid … TO TAKE THEIR LITTLE HAND!
Teach them now to be … A WOMAN OR MAN
And don’t forget … TO TEACH THEM HOW TO PLAY!
DON’T YOU know? Camp starts again … in May-y-y-y-y-y …
Wow ... whole chunks are missing ... Spew! I can't remember. I was 16-yrs-old when I wrote this. Anyway ... it used to be pretty cool. I'll have to try to remember AND BY THE WAY! I wrote this for a girl to sing. Let's keep it STRAIGHT.
