I've yet to watch it. I am hesitant, it looks kinda silly. And I love vampire stuff.

I used to like vampire stuff. Then heretics insisted on bludgeoning the genre to death with wearisome and poorly executed productions that finally culminated in the raging beast of Hell that is Twilight and the Vampire's Assistant (AKA: Harry Potter and the inevitability of sucking).

True Blood simply doesn't appeal to me or engage me on even the remotest level. I am, however, hoping the genre can claw bag some dignity with the release of Daybreakers.

why is it that every vampire story since Interview With The Vampyre seems like a retread of Interview With The Vampyre?

really there hasn't been an original vampyre story since Bram Stoker's Dracula defined the genre. every since then it's all been cloning.

this current spate of vampyre awareness reminds me of the 1980's and 90's when the Rage was all about Anne Rice's novels being made into movies.

I guess since they can't find original stories they just retread whatever they can find, including the ultimate sin of cloning a Bad Idea (Resident Evil) as a reverse strategy Vampyre story (Daybreakers).

*yawn* wake me when something good arrives ...

I have all the "Sookie Stackhouse" books that TrueBlood originated from, and am a huge fan. Her "supes" or supernatural creatures are very different from other versions..the hbo series has diverged from the original plotline somewhat, but not in a way I don't like.

But Mez, I think this book would really be to your taste..I think you could go straight from Count Dracula to this book and enjoy both, and that is "The Historian" by Elizabeth Kostova.

It's a great show! The Vampires are vampires. Sunlight=Bad not sparkles, need HUMAN blood, so forth. But in a world where the Japanese invented a fake blood, they come out of the coffin and say hey hi! Also, lots of nudity, Vampire Bill not so much but I'd rather see Eric all buff instead.

Not a fan of the teenage angst-y vampire bit. However I do like the underworld series as i am more a fan of 'das veirvolf' the vamp were cool in that.
best teenage vampire flick is 'the Lost boys' original. Tacky as hell, love it.

The Lair (http://www.heretv.com/the_lair/episodes) is better.

Dante's Cove (http://www.dantescove.com/) is even better.

I have to admit I originally watched true blood for the cheesecake factor when I saw a review with the words
If nothing else you get to see Anna Paquin naked."

I was surprised by how well written and funny the show was. I am still at a loos to figure out why when women write about vampires they have to be bisexual eurotrash but none the less a good show.

what's wrong with a little same gender sexuality? Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it should be hidden.

Who said it should be hidden? I asked a legitimate question about why women who write about vampires tend to make them a stereotypical type. Even Edward in Twilight is a bit of a wimp. Being gay or bi doesn't mean you have to be swish or fem.

Uh... Have you never heard that some women go for the guy/guy action? They find it erotic like men find girl/girl action.

I think True Blood is pretty cool.

I don't watch TV, really ever. But during summer, I'll try to catch the weekly episode (usually just record since I'm gone).

However....Now I'm not homophobic at all (my sister is a lesbian anyway), but the series got extremely gay in the last few seasons.
I mean, having Eric have sex with that one house decorating vampire is ok, but at one point it loses its storyline and turns to smut. Because Eric isn't the only one having gay sex. The hetero sex is common too.
Obviously, all forms of sex are normal and apart of real life. However, there is an overkill point.

That said, the storyline is original and intrigueing. It's set in a future (like GG said) where synthetic blood has been invented, and it is sold to vampires. Vampires thus, don't technically have to drink human blood anymore. And vampire groups lobby for rights in a "Vampire Rights Amendment." There's some social backlash among vampires though, who believe it is the place and right of the vampire to prey on humans. They oppose vampire rights and the vampire bureaucracy.
And in the movie, religious groups oppose vampire rights because "God hates fangs." And some extremist groups actually take violent measures. There's some very cool social dynamics.

I mean, it's entertaining. Because there's some thought involved. Obviously, the point of the series is to draw a parallel between gay rights and vampire rights.
But the reason I toon in is because of the sociological intrigue. Sociologically speaking, it's unnervingly accurate--if such a scenario were to exist.

Not a homo myself but I can tell you I think of all the male characters if I had to take one for the team so to speak - I'd chose him.

Bill is meh...

As for the chicks, maybe its my age but the red headed waitress is my favorite the one who was in the relationship with the serial killer.

As for one time fantasy material Bill's convert is the one, except it makes me feel like a dirty old man to have the thoughts since she's supposed to be 17 I bet the actress is plenty old enough.
