WASHINGTON – Senate Democrats on Wednesday proposed allowing the federal government to borrow an additional $1.9 trillion to pay its bills, a record increase that would permit the national debt to reach $14.3 trillion.

"Democratic leaders are also worried that Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Ind., who opposed the debt limit increase approved last month, will vote against the measure."

I wish I could vote for Bayh.

If the world ends in 2012 then who's going to bee left to collect the debt? but yeah, obviously the national debt has gone through the roof.

When the debt was at $11 trillion the CBO was saying it would rise $ 9 trillion in a decade to $20 trillion. What is another trillion or two?

"The Congressional Budget Office last week projected that the federal budget deficit could hit $9.3 trillion dollars over the next decade under the budget proposed by President Obama."

It is now so high that it is basically meaningless.

It would be cheaper for the senate to actually use money to wipe their ass with than to have them attempt to figure out a budget for purchasing it.

a joke heard on the Gong Show, decades ago:

" I'm so poor that orphans-in-Korea are supportin' ME. "

I hope that doesn't become our grandchildrens' reality.

Every time I read stories about the burrowing of 8 figure+ sums, its almost like a child tugging on the trouser leg of an adult going "can I have some change for the... (whatever machine)."

Keeps getting it but ends up nowhere.

This should not be a shock to any of us. The American government has been borrowing money like this for the past 100 years. This further solidifies our needs for reform and the need to do away with the FED. God forbid we hold our government and big business accountable for spending, but how do you do just that?

What can we do as American people? I am not a master economist, nor do I have all of the answers; however I do see our country going into complete and utter ruin economically.

Our government continues to borrow, which makes the FED print more money, but we do not see the inflation associated with it to a large degree. The FED controls our interest rates, and as of right now you can still get a loan here and there at 0%. This can only happen for so long before something gives. As the FED continues to put more money into circulation and keep interest rates low, it makes our financial bubble grow larger and larger. Could you imagine buying a house or car at 40% interest? I think we will definitely see this within the next 5 years.

The FED is made up of a number of large banks. The FED is shrouded in secrecy and has found ways to hide their business practices from the American People. What about the Freedom of Information Act? Well, that's been thrown at them, and they were able to dodge that federal lawsuit.

What do you all think of the lending and also do you think the FED is good for this country?

My primary mission is to put the FED and all private banks out of business and install a clean, weightless and incorruptible monetary system that no one owns. Congress did not have the authority to turn the monetary system over to anyone they were supposed to have it controlled by the government according to the Constitution.

No bigger scam has ever been sucessfully played than the game the private bankers have of making money out of trees and ink and charging face value plus interest for it. Why would anyone allow a system to exist that would allow anyone to paid in the millions for filling out loan applications and then taking the profits to the gambling casino known as the Stock Market where they sell more lies and worthless paper at extreme prices.

Jake, I have to know what this monetary genius plan is to restore our economy. Would you bring back some type of standard to put our paper money against? Would you restore the function of printing money back to the government? I am curious to hear your ideas on what it would take to turn things around. I am awaiting your reply patiently.

My electronic only credit (clean, incorruptible, weightless) money would be backed by the promise that to get it you would have to work a union job or receive it as a non work benefit. All money would be controlled by the global government which all wages would be paid by and all products would be purchased through at standard cost or supply and demand. Each person would have a web page to manage all of their work, education, medical and purchasing in one place with. Basic needs benefits would automatically be given to everyone who does not work.

We would start by forgiving all debts and making all currencies worthless. Then all land, buisness and homes must be given back to the government so they can be operated, maintained and managed professionally. Homes would be rented not owned and new communities would be built space and energy efficient as well as duarable enough to last forever.

I plan on terminating the employment of many systematic middleman workers and hiring as many environmental and contruction workers required to clean up pollution and rebuild the infrastructure so that what we end up with is sustainable no matter how many people inhabit the Earth.

It would be unlawful and impossible for both parents to be in the work force unless they are splitting the maximum hours allowed. Children would be schooled over the Internet when possible which would put daycare out of business except for non work related reasons.

I am about non conventional wisdom and technology combined with the simplistic system that the Bible recommends. I am as far from the ways of the politicians and their complicated and secret systems as you can get. Any person could have knowledge of anything the government would do in my system and it would all be online so you could see where the resourses are being used and who is being paid to process the work that needs to be done.

I cant wait to smash the stock markets which are only selling paper promises based on gambling bets. Its the only market that does not even have a product.

Haha! You made a funny!

Oh wait, you're serious. The government will run all those entities "professionally"???? Come on... Government and professional are two words that do not belong together unless 'is not' is placed between them.

My government has no middlemen or corruption in it and will run as perfectly as the huge factories I have managed to perfection.

The current government as well as all the governments you know of have been completely incompetent. I would not hire a politician to shine shoes. The Bible says you have to place the government of the world upon my shoulders to attain paradise and that is a fact.
