Is there any way to embed players here, other than for Youtube and Google?

You know, using HTML script?

What I wanted to be able to do, was to embed BP's live cam shot of the oil leak.

Just give the address link, but I think most have already seen that one on the news searches anyway.

9.9 times outta 10, the video is already on youtube or google video. The embed buttons or feature is just one that's been adapted so you don't have to use any scripts or html.

I'd like to use dailymotion or something, but it just isn't viable at this point in time.

HTML is off because it can be abused - that's why BBcode exists. Letting people use HTML could alter the pages pretty badly..... Also, you can have a youtube account and upload videos lol. One of the nicest plug ins for fire fox is the "download helper" - let's you basically download whatever you're viewing.

I understand, but that doesn't help with live links, which can only be embedded. I would rather protect the site, if this opens up a problem, however.

Ah. I've always been unsatisfied with previous explanations of this.

There's certain HTML that can be royally abused if you leave it on / open for everyone. Most vbulletin sites, invasion bb, phpbb forums dont allow HTML to normal users in any way.

BBCode was devised to provide a safer, easier and more limited way of allowing users to format their messages. Previously, many message boards allowed the users to include HTML formatting, a side effect of which was that malformed HTML could disrupt the page's layout, or HTML could be used to run JavaScript leading to XSS attacks. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBCode
