molecular nanotechnology.

If we develop it, we could survive, but evolve radically from what we are now, or we destroy ourselves fighting over it. One thing seems to be for sure though, in developing molecular manufacturing, the old industrial system will fall apart, because as soon as molecular manufacturing comes about, old non-nanotech products are worthless; this will cause a cascade effect that will send the economy reeling.

O.k. if we don't develop it any time soon; most likelyk, we don't make it to space, and hence because of hard to reach resources, the old industrial system falls apart within a generation; if it doesn't fall apart soon, it destroys the environment within a century anyways.

Nanotechnology would be great for space travel and for tasks humans cannot do because of the size. However, I am real skeptical of its reliability.

Plus I'm sure people would be fusing about it's AI and it taking over the world.

Cold Fusion.

Cheap limitless power powering cars to walkmans to spaceships.

We should have it by now if it wernt for the oil barons because they be obsolete over night.

AI is theoretically impossible, so I would not worry about it too much. If it is possible, we are far from having it a reality.

I think tecnology, especially molecular nanotechnology, wil be the only thing that can save us in the long run. Sooner or later a major event like Yellowstone will happen, and technology is the only way we can adapt to get through it intact (like growing food in unconventional ways, new lightwieght materials for space travel, etc.) I think this is what these luddite fearmongers like Prince Charles do not understand. If we do not take the risks, nature (or our disruption to the environment caused by supposidly less risky, more primative technology) will destroy us anyway. We have a narrow window of opportunity to develop the technology to free us from the cyclical destructive forces of nature that have done in so many other life forms on this planet.
