Had a "Christian" tell me today that God will destroy the universe when he destroys the earth because without man, the universe wouldn't have a reason to exist.

Now, this has got to be one of the stupidest things that has ever come out of a human's mouth. I asked for references, biblical and otherwise, and she couldn't name any but said she'd research and get back to me.

Any Christians here care to comment ?

the problem with religious people is that they get the idea that humanity is the most important thing in the universe, when we apparantly are just microscopic in the entire universe. we are no different than animals, just more highly evolved.

ignorance is bliss.

I consider myself a christian and answer no. The universe will go on forever. God may one day give up on us and wipe us out but the universe will go on. The hindu religion believes in 78,000 year cycles where all is wiped out only to begin again. Some believe that the pyramids are more than 20,00 years old, that there have been vey ancient civilizations that wiped themselves out. Other think thr ANNUNAKI built them, with all the billions of stars and planets who knows if god has others to watch over. From a biblical perspective genesis says god created light and saw that it was good. Then he seperated the land from the water and saw that it was good, this went on for the six days of creation. Would god destroy all he created just because humans failed to live up to his expectations?

From Revelation Chapter 21:

1Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."
5He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true."
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Note two things:

1) ... new heaven and new earth.....
2) "I am making everything new!"

Looks like God will make a new universe.... will it coorespond to the end of man on this earth or because of the end of man??? Don't know, but it looks like its going to happen...

Also, big shout out to repentantsinner... dude, I like your point of view.
Course, I'm sure we could find something to argue about if we look hard enough. :~)

In the past few days on this board I have heard the following statements.
"We own the Earth, it doesn't own us"
"If we're better off not around, what's the point in saving the Earth?" and now this little gem.

Up until the late 17th Century when using a rudimentary microscope Van Leeuwenhoeks discovered microbes or animalculae, their existence was scoffed at. In 1720 Benjamin Martin (English Physicist) suggested animalculae caused disease and 40 years later Marcus Pienciz (Physicist of Vienna) claimed all disease was caused by such animalculae. Both were laughed at.
People could not believe that God would create something that wasn't visible to the human eye. What was the point?

It would seem some people are still stuck in the 17th Century. Some peoples thinking goes back even further. Please post your friends findings after their research Doomer. I am more than interested. :alcoholic

Will do. I asked her about it last night and she said she hasn't had time to get to it yet but promised she would. I'm not holding my breath. Christians expect others to accept there faith as truth. When they don't, condemnation follows. I'm sure she thinks I'm a godless heathen but what do I care. :(

This paticular christian does not expect the acceptance Doomer. I try alwasys to post that Jesus is a personal savior, that each person comes to christ as an individual. As for condemnation, Jesus came not to condem the world but to save it. Condemnation talk reeks of organized religion and the "we are better than them attititude" I will say this though, i believe that in Gods own time and in Gods own way each person will be givena time to choose, to believe or not to believe. It will be the persons heart that decides. I choose to believe in an optimistic God, that when it really comes down to it untold mliions will choose good over evil.

Well right now since we might be the only living things in the unverse (probably not)...it would be over...no more living things.

I tend to think of "god" as "The Creator". "God", as well as other names he is called tend to reek of one religion or another.
Anyone who claims to know the nature of The Creator of the universe is is plain dumb.
It seems to me that the universe is running on auto pilot and this is the way it was meant to be. No miracles, no prophesies to be fulfilled and most of all, no special place in the grand scheme of things for mankind. Just cause and effect, nothing more, nothing less. Sorry to bust your ego religious people. :(

If the universe is running on auto pilot, what the hell do you need a God as creator for? Cause? Try to make one more step in your mind, and lose the cause for the grand scheme, or even: no grand scheme at all...

Free your mind and the rest will follow.... (great song, BTW)

I dunno. Guess it's kinda like taking a crap in the woods. You created it but after that, you have nothing to do with it as it's eaten by flies, decays, etc.

Maybe the universe is a pile of god crap that's been left to it's fate.

Very imaginative.:eww:

Seems to me you do have some need for a God to be around, because that entity keeps popping up in your remarks as a feasable possibility.

Well I believe the end of the world is when heaven and earth connect. Which would then probably mean the universe would go to heaven too.

So basically the end could be of the universe and not only earth. It is rather amazing though how a planet needs so many features to support life. Isnt it?? It needs to be at the right distance from the sun...it never gets off its little tiny orit..it needs a certain angle on its axis...it needs to have an atmosphere eith an ozone layer...it needs to have different kinds of organisms to eat off each other. It would be so rare if the earth wasnt a one of a kind.

There has to be something (God) to do all of this perfectly. It couldnt be that a bunch of chemicals formed it themselves.with no brain or mind.

Yea, I guess old habits are hard to break. I'm a born again realist and god has evolved into creator. Of course I could be wrong, maybe there is no creator either. Doesn't make any difference either way tho.
