View Full Version : Ingenius: Proposed Bill REQUIRES All South Dakota Residents to Buy A Gun

In what is sure to be a controversial measure, South Dakota legislators are proposing a bill that would require all residents over the age of 21 in that state to buy a gun for their self-defense.

SD Bill Requires Residents to Buy Firearms (http://www.argusleader.com/article/20110131/UPDATES/110131031/Bill-would-require-all-S-D-citizens-buy-gun)

Five South Dakota lawmakers have introduced legislation that would require any adult 21 or older to buy a firearm “sufficient to provide for their ordinary self-defense.”

Rep. Hal Wick, R-Sioux Falls, is sponsoring the bill and knows it will be killed. But he said he is introducing it to prove a point that the federal health care reform mandate passed last year is unconstitutional.

So, before you limp-wristed liberals blow a gasket, be sure you understand what this story is ABOUT... SD Legislators KNOW the bill will be challenged and defeated, because it's unconstitutional.

Just as the Federal Healthcare Reform bill is unconstitutional and SHOULD be overturned. Same exact unconstitutionality.

I think its a good idea, regardless of any points being made and I consider myself a liberal!

Yeah... I saw this earlier today and thought the move was brilliant, and SD knows this gun purchase will get the left pissed off enough to act and do so quickly. I only hope the news media other than FOX covers it. I see this getting ignored by MSNBC for certain.

If they really wanna trump the left, they should pass out guns to every adult in the state, for free.

A mandatory "gift," of course.

That would join the left... not trump it, in the added spending. Most likely, it would bankrupt even the lightly populated South Dakota... but then they could take DBA's approach, and simply raise taxes on the wealthiest of South Dakotans to pay for the measure.... oh wait, that means taxing Tom Dashle... like he would ever own a firearm. On top of that, to flow with the spirit of the 2nd Amendment, they would need to handout assault styled weapons to constitute their militia, which would be another no no. This won't happen, but I saw clips of Rush saying Obama wants us all to be prepared for possible winter power outages, so perhaps the government should mandate having generators.

Well, Obama's healthcare scheme isn't free, is it? The purchase of insurance is mandatory. Hence, hand out the guns for free. Beat 'em at their own game, eh?

Then, after every neighbor who hates his neighbor, cuz he's pissed about what religion they believe in, well they can just shoot each other down, kill everyone who doesn't agree with their politics....Voila. Healthcare and free gun program expense solved.

Generate hate, hand out free guns, let everybody kill each other over ideological differences.....result: reduced gun supply expense, lower health expense.

Everybody wins, yes?

Pico, you're brilliant and a psychic. :cool14:

Just this early morning I awoke to find myself thinking about this post, and how to be prepared for the religio-political snipers in my 'hood, when of a sudden, all the power did indeed go out!

It's like the coldest day of the year here, gusty winds and freezing weather -- and in a lovely welcome to the new year ~ all the electricity gets cut off.

You knew!!

How do you do it?

GG, you're so cute when you're totally wrong and off-the-mark... Which means you've been cute your entire life so far.

People from all across the board believe that an armed citizenry is key to an open and free democracy.

This reminds me of Hugo Chavez' armed peasantry- though that is not a requirement that all citizens be armed, but rather that the federal government transfers the power of people to protect themselves and their property, to the people themselves.

This article from February 2010; Kiraz Janicke writes for Venezuelan Analysis (http://venezuelanalysis.com/news/5150)

Venezuela Creates Peasant Militias, Enacts Federal Government Council

Caracas, February 22, 2010 (venezuelanalysis.com) – Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez announced the creation of a new Peasant Militia, which will form part of the national Bolivarian Armed Forces (FAB) and also enacted the new Law of the Federal Government Council, during a ceremony to commemorate 151 years since the Federal War lead by peasant leader General Ezequiel Zamora in Venezuela on Saturday.

The peasant militia will be responsible for protecting poor farmers from mercenary groups organized and financed by ranchers and wealthy landowners, Chavez explained in his weekly column, “Chavez’s Lines” on Sunday. More than 300 peasant leaders and activists have been murdered since the government introduced the Law on Land and Agricultural Development in 2001 and launched a program of agrarian reform...

Almost sounds like the Patriot groups of the States, doesn't it? In the goals and ideals behind the move. Except in this instance, the move is championed by the President and the Congress, as opposed to, well, opposition from the ruling powers.

Almost...they are frowned on by DHS, you know....

Owning a gun and never needing it,
is worth far more than needing a gun,
and not being allowed to own one.

Why don't you move in with me, Sir Dragon, here in the inner city. ;)

Bring yer artillery.

Great fun....shootout at The Ok Corral...except it's just asphalt, for miles around. Oh and the guns, they're just for everybody's protection.

If you're white, you're in a militia.

If you're ethnic, the proper nomenclature, according to the elite, is "gang". Isn't it?

So good, isn't it, that all those Drug Lords, just across our southern border, have guns to protect themselves, and those under their protection, from the federales, yes? Bet the U.S. border patrol is just itching for Mexico to provide guns to all the rebel-istas, in our border towns. You know, so that they can protect themselves from corrupt elite interests, and er, defend themselves, and their country, from enemies, like the big bad American predators.

Nice solution, don't you think?

Ok, so South Dakota huh?
Geez, we just hope if it did actually pass, that the majority of anglo's that
detest any/all Lakota/Dakota there, go buy bee-bee pellet, and/or air puff weapons.
All means All. But, of course all of us living on the Reservations in that state
would be EXCLUDED, and probably denied.
Just a joke. Perhaps only Natives would understand this perspective.
Actually though, our family personally believes in the RIGHT FOR ALL
CITIZENS TO BEAR ARMS. :2thumbs: Yep.

I brought up Venezuelan politics in this thread, in regard to rights to bear arms, because many here continuously point to Chavez as being an overbearing Socialist dictator who we should be afraid of because he would love to take his people-choking brand of Socialism and cram it down our throats- yet here this man and his administration is, working to ensure that their people do in fact have the right to bear arms in self defense, even to the point of providing them with arms. It is just one of many examples that disprove the OP's and others media fed theories of Chavez as a crazy dictator. The Socialism practices there is Democractic Socialism- 21st century Bolivarian Socialism, which is power and independence to the people, by the people.
I think the "socialism" often screeched about by the OP is not of the same sort.

Anti-gun rights people who do not disapprove of Chavez are often disturbed that he went this route, re the peasant militias.

Whether somebody approves of Chavez or of democratic socialism, or not, I don't really care, but I just wish people would see the truth is multifaceted and layered, in depth, as opposed to black and white, in many cases at least. At least, in the case of gun rights and such.
