Sorry folks, but. Peanut Butter and Mayo sandwich. Think about it. Peanut butter has a lot of flavor but doesn't go down well on it's own. Mayo doesn't have a lot of flavor, slightly fatty and a little buttery, and act as the lubricant to help the PB go down. We ate these all the time as kids, now I just do it when we are out of jelly, LOL.

Ok Rabid....what cut of meat do I buy and whats the technique????

Rabid1
Feb 10th, 2011, 4:49 PM
I know you guys do C instead of F so set your oven to 110C.

The cut is personal preference. If you are going for longevity go with leaner meats like flank, top round and london broil are good too. If you want a little more flavor and less shelf life I use chuck. Fattier meats need to cook a little longer and even in the fridge don't last more than a week or two.

trim excess fat and you want to cut it into thin strips across the grain about 1/4 inch thick. If your oven has two racks you can set one on the bottom with a little tin foil to catch initial dripping. and the other in the top position.

You need to marinate the meat over night, dry seasoning works but the flavor isn't as deep or lasting. Here is a good basic marinade to start although you can use just about any of your favorite bottled marinades, you may want to thin out thick marinades with a little water.

1/4 cup liquid smoke
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon ground pepper
1-1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper

I like to add 1/4 brown sugar and 3tsp crushed red pepper and substitute teriyaki sauce for soy.

After you marinade the meat take it out and drain off the marinade. You place the meat in the oven a couple of ways. if you have small wire racks lay it across those and place them on top of the upper oven rack. Take each piece and pierce one end with a tooth pigk then hang them across the wires of the top oven rack. last you can drape them across the wires of the oven rack so they hang in a upside down U shape.

Once in the oven they can take 4 to 5 hours depending on the thickness. Just start checking around the 4 hour stage. Meat should be firm and dry to the touch. let it cool for another 2 hours or so and store it in a plastic bag or a jar.

You can drop the oven temp to around 90C but then the cook time goes up to 8 minimum to 12 hours.

If you wanted to do it with no oven and didn;t want to pay for a dehydrator this is a cool way that works awesome.

Liquid smoke is literally smoke infused liquid to add the smoky flavor. It can be left out.

OK our cuts and yours are a little different, but the flank is the meat under the sirloin which if you go to the butcher should be the same. It looks like silverside might work as it is a fibrous roasting cut, we call it part of the round. Silver side would be the slightly fattier cut of the round, actually looking here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beef) it could even be what we call the london broil cut. Top round would be the high side of your silverside and topside. Chuck is what your butchers call the neck.

Good ales are hard to come by on this side of the pond, except for micro brews and they tend to be a bit pricey. Just as it seem American distributors seem to think a good stout has to smell like skunk and taste like weeds before they import it.

Well, I was lucky enough to receive some $$ for christmas.....took my kid to a few nice lunches, bought a new vacuum cleaner and a mop so we can try to clean our tiny apartment.....and as we have no internet, we spent a lot of nice afternoons at the coffee shops, drinking lattes (well, cupcakes and cookies for the boy, he doesn't get caffeinated), and doing our thing on the interwebs.

And as all my extra $$ are now gone....we go back to our creative ways.....and thus my recipe for the poor person's mocha latte. It's really surprisingly good!

Poor Person's Mocha Latte (lunch today)

Helps if you have a clean, re-cycled starbucks cup and lid

* Decent quality instant coffee (I got a big container of Taster's Choice coffee crystals for christmas -- works great)

* Instant hot chocolate mix (Also got a nice tin of nestle's milk chocolate powder for christmas -- perfect amount of sweet)

* Powdered Creamer (Large container from the 99 cent store makes a beautiful frothy foam)

You want the coffee to be stronger than regular coffee, so that you get that nice java flavor. 2 or 3 teaspoons of instant coffee. Pour a generous amount of creamer powder over the coffee crystals. If you want more creaminess/foaminess, add more cream powder. At least 3 large dollops of cocoa mix. Add more for more sweetness.

Cover with boiling hot, fresh spring water (at least well filtered, if at all possible.)

Stir, add yer snappy starbucks lid, give it a few cool-down moments, and you have a very nice, foamy, flavorful mocha latte!!

Lol it is the cup that does it. We had a friend that said the city water tasted funny we we bought a case of plastic water bottles filled them from the tap and put them in the fridge. He asked about no labels and we said it was a buy from the Grocery Outlet store and he bought it. In his words "So much better than that nasty city stuff." We didn't tell him until it was all gone.

If I drank coffee this sounds like it would be really good.

FINALLY! I confused you with an americanism..... you with your shrimp crisp cracker nuts... LOL No seriously you haven't stumped me yet. Truncheon lol. But Jojos are breaded potatoes wedges cooked either by frying or by baking at high heat so they get good and crunchy. I sued the last of the chicken breading I had from that other thread.

Warm slaw is just coleslaw slightly sauteed to wilt it a little with a warm dressing. You can use regular slaw dressing but I like a ginger vinaigrette. I make warm potato salad too. Same as regular but sauteed all the veg you normally use and when the potatoes are cooked just drain them without cooling and mix like normal.

BE SILENT!

Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

Amen.

Save me o' God by thy name, by thy might defend my cause, proud men have risen up against me, men of violence seek my life, but God is my helper, the Lord sustains my life and every need He has delivered to me, glory be to the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Amen

As it was in the beginning, so it is now and ever shall be, world without end, amen.

Save your servant who places his trust in thee, my God.

Be unto him o' Lord a fortified tower.

In the face of the enemy. Let the enemy have no power over him.

And the son of iniquity be powerless to harm him.

O'Lord hear my prayer.

And let my cry come unto thee.

The Lord be with you.

And also with you.

Let us pray. Holy Lord, almighty Father, everlasting God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who once and for all consigned that fallen tyrant to the flames of hell. Who sent your only begotten son into the world to crush that roaring lion.

Hasten to our call for help and snatch from ruination and from the clutches of the noonday devil, this human being made in your image and likeness. Strike terror Lord, into the beast, now laying waste your vineyard, let your mighty hand cast him out of your servant, Fut004, so he may no longer hold captive this person, whom it pleased you to make in your image, and to redeem through your Son. Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever.

Amen

O'Lord hear my prayer.

And let my cry come unto thee.

Almighty Lord, word of God the father Jesus Christ, God and Lord of all Creation, who gave to your holy apostle the power to tramp underfoot serpents and scorpions. Grant me, your unworthy servant pardon for all my sins, and the power to confront this cruel demon.

Amen

See the cross of the Lord. Be gone you hostile power.

O'Lord hear my prayer.

And let my cry come unto thee.

The Lord be with you.

And also with you.

I cast you out!!!

Unclean Spirit in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ!!! It is HE who commands you! HE who flung you from the heights of Heaven to the depths of hell!

Be gone from this creature of God!!!

Be gone!!

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit!! By this sign of the Holy Cross, of our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit.

http://forums.armageddononline.org/picture.php?albumid=122&pictureid=1353

Amen.

Defender of the human race, look down in pity upon this your servant, FUT004.

I command you by the judge of the living and the dead, to depart from this servant of God.

It's the power of Christ that compels you.

The power of Christ compels you.

The power of Christ compels you.

The power of Christ compels you.

The power of Christ compels you.

The power of Christ compels you.

The power of Christ compels you.

The power of Christ compels you.

The power of Christ compels you.

The power of Christ compels you.

The power of Christ compels you.

The power of Christ compels you.

The power of Christ compels you.

The power of Christ compels you.

He brought you low by His bloodstained cross! Do not despise my command because you know me to be a sinner. It's God Himself who commands you!

The majestic Christ who commands!

God the Father commands you!

God the Son commands you!

God the Holy Spirit commands you!

The Mystery of the Cross commands you!

The Blood of the Martyrs commands you!

Give way to Christ, you prince of murderers. You're guilty, before Almighty God, guilty before His Son, guilty before the whole human race. It's the Lord who expels you. He who is coming to judge both the living and the dead and the world by fire.

Amen

Ingredients
2 large onions, chopped
2 green bell peppers, cored, seeded and chopped
2 tablespoons minced (3 large cloves) garlic
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
1/4 cup chili powder, or to taste
1 tablespoon ground cumin
1 tablespoon dried oregano
2 tablespoons tomato paste (recommend getting tube)
3 pounds boneless beef chuck, ground coarse
1 (28-ounce) can whole tomatoes, including liquid
1 to 1 1/2 cups beef broth
4 tablespoons cider vinegar
1-ounce unsweetened chocolate, chopped
1 (19-ounce) can kidney beans, rinsed and drained
Rice, as an accompaniment
Toppings: Tortilla chips; sour cream; grated cheddar; chopped red onions; chopped jalapenos; diced avocado; minced cilantro; etc.

Directions
In a casserole cook the onions, peppers and garlic in the oil over moderate heat, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes. Add the chili powder, cumin and oregano and cook, stirring, for 3 minutes. Add the tomato paste and cook, stirring, for 2 minutes more. Add the beef and cook, stirring occasionally, until no longer pink. Add the tomatoes, 1 cup of the broth, the vinegar and chocolate and bring the mixture to a boil, crushing the tomatoes with the back of a spoon. Simmer the chili, covered, for 1 hour, adding additional broth, if necessary. Add the kidney beans and simmer, uncovered, for 15 minutes more. Ladle into bowls and serve with rice and desired toppings.

Lol. We're headed to Sonic in a bit....the boy loves it. ::):

He can eat a foot long coney, cheese burger, chili fries, in minutes....without any chemical "enhancements".....hehe. But he's 8, and goin' through a growth spurt, and soon he'll be looking down at me. :vbroll:

Me, if I were stoned, would be havin a great time -- I'd probly get cheese-stuffed jalapenos, mozzarella cheese sticks....cheese fries, milk shake....all of it!!

Thank the gods I won't be doing that. Haha. Though it does sound fun. :grin

Maybe a grilled cheese sandwich with pickles -- a healthy veggie delight if there ever was one. :wink:

Sad, that Sonic doesn't have a tofu wrap or veggie burger.

The last time (a week or so ago) I went for a fast food veggie burger was burger king....the only fast food with veggie patties. Fuckers knew what I asked for, and gave me just a bun with lettuce and mayonnaise -- only. Just to be shitheads, I'm sure.

I didn't give them the pleasure of going back up and making a complaint. i just put some salt on it and ate it -- it wasn't that bad anyway. Motherfuckers. I couldn't care less, if assholes want to be assholes -- let 'em.

And then the Jehovah's witnesses took over, cornered me, and grilled me, in very grim and sober tones, about just what do I think will happen when Jesus returns...do I have a bible...do I know about "armageddon"....am I baptised....what does being baptised mean to me -- for like an hour, while I let my kid play in the playscape.

So much fucking fun, I'm surprised I didn't barf up my lettuce burger.

Perhaps I should be getting stoned. It can't be worse hell than what's already here.

Extra-long coney -- Mmmmmm. Too bad, it's not vegetarian!

I'm trying to brighten up mealtimes in my kitchen, so, since January, I have devised a design scheme, to implement, of dining materials. These revolve around being functional, streamlined, sturdy and elegant. And inexpensive.

So to date, I have a functional, stylish, cubic folding table (black) -- as my little space requires mobility and compact capability.

I found a compatible collection of dinnerware, sophisticated and streamlined as well -- in basic black. (The Evolution Collection -- a nice find at a local discount store).

So, to celebrate my design accomplishments I am enjoying, via my elegant little dinnerware bowl, the most wonderful of delicacies ~

I have immersed delicate tenders of luscious orange slices in creamy, tangy plain yogurt (whole milk). Over this, drizzled the lightest amount of flowing honey -- just enough to glaze the surface of the orange infused yogurt with a golden glow.

Like heaven. ::):

That does sound very good. Those yogurt dipped, honey drizzled oranges must have looked beautiful with the black dinner bowl. And your design scheme sounds understated and chic. Nice!

Thank you Nu Kua. They indeed did look beautiful ~ the contrast was stark, and intensified the ethereal glow of the honeyed, citrus-y creaminess, resting within its curving and deep onyx nest. :;):

Thank you also for being alert to my decorating ambitions. My next addition will be cloth napkins. As I found an inexpensive collection of silverware, with an alternating pattern of of frosted and shiny cubes. They echo the understated (nice word!) geometry of my cubist table, and complement the organic shape of my simple dinnerware.

And as you mentioned elsewhere your sublime sounding cinnamon coffee, here, I have a treat for you:

I just had honey in green tea...

This is off-topic and odd, but calliope... I know you are in this thread right now, and I was wondering if you would do me the kindness of joining me in chat?

Hi Phed ~ honey and green tea sound perfect atm. I couldn't sleep, so I logged in here, and was surprised to find that I have a decent connection, as my sketchy internet connection has not allowed me to stay logged in for more than a few moments all day.

And I would of course enjoy chatting with you some time....generally, I don't as a rule go into the chat room in AO, as I think I'd never leave there, once I got started!

But if sometime you'd like to chat in gmail chat, or other IM venue, that would be nice.

Now, I'm rather groggy with sleepiness, so that's why I'm posting pretty pictures that make me happy. ::):

But I really wouldn't be much good for chatting, just rather random and vague, probably. See even now, I've gone on rambling!

But please do send an email or find me on facebook, if you'd like to chat sometime.

I just wanted to make sure you didn't hate me because of the CP thread. lol. Seriously, it distressed me that our debate got a little too vicious. My latest post to you there was kind of antagonistic, and I regret that. I hope you don't judge me too harshly for it. I really don't think badly of you or anything. :( I know I stand by my opinions and you yours, but I am just not happy about the tone of things. I'm sorry if I started it. I can be bitchy and forceful about things I feel strongly about. Anyway... I tried to send you a private message, but it wouldn't accept. So that's all!

I'm pretty tired right now, too. I'm entering into that drug-like realm of bizarre, cotton-headed day-dreams. . .

And thank you, I would love to chat more some time in private if you'd like. :)

Oh that's very nice! My feeling about the antagonism in that thread is similar to yours. It's a highly-charged topic and passions run high, esp when we feel personally invested in such matters. I have not judged you at all in the fashion you mention, in fact I blame myself.

I had already determined to respond to you in a much milder and more respectful way, and let you know in that thread that my intentions were not to cause such personal controversy. Though I find it necessary to take my time with such a response.

So I do appreciate your effort at rapprochement. Well done! And with much gratitude, sending blessings and pleasant dreams. :angel:

And just because it's late and already almost in my dreamscape, here's a nice visual for you:

We've just got a new rice maker and it's beautiful. :)

Healthier meals for us -- with rice we have steamed veggie and stir fries.
In the rice cooker the rice is cooked to perfection, and remains fresh all day.

It has a steamer attachment as well.

But the best part is that rice cookers also accommodate a variety of different recipes.

I found one beautifully simple that makes a delicious meal - add rice grains, chopped onion, bell pepper, garlic and can of diced tomato to rice pan. Cook at regular rice maker cook time, then add a can of beans and some cheese.

Our wholesome, delicious, lovely meal this afternoon.

Yes I think so!

My kitchen is tiny, so the compact size is wonderful. I'm not a gourmet chef either, so, with little space, making stuff like this is perfect. ::):

Here is a carrot cake recipe for the rice cooker that sounds divine:

Carrot Cake Recipe Ingredients

* 1 1/2 cups of flour
* 1/2 cup of sugar
* 1 teaspoon double-acting baking powder
* 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 1 teaspoon cinnamon
* 1 teaspoon ginger powder
* 1/2 cup of milk
* 1/4 cup raisins
* 1/4 cup chopped nuts - cashews or walnuts
* 1 large carrot - grated
* 2 large eggs
* 1/3 cup canola oil (any oil may be used)
* 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
* 2 tablespoons unsulphured molasses

Carrot Cake Recipe Directions:

Prep Time: 15 mins Total time involved: 2 1/4 hrs

1 Combine all dry ingredients and mix well with fork.

2 Add all wet ingredients and carrots to dry mixture and stir with fork until well mixed.

3 Lightly oil the pan of rice cooker.

4 Pour cake batter in to the rice cooker.

5 Set rice cooker to 'slow' if you have that option, then press start (if you don't have slow that is ok).

6 Rice cooker may shut off prematurely. Restart the rice cooker - most rice cookers will require at least 2 cooking cycles for cake to bake.

7 Check for finished cake by inserting toothpick - it will come out clean when inserted into the cake if cake is cooked completely.

8 Remove pan from cooker when finished and let cool in pan for 1 hour.

9 Invert pan over a plate larger than pan opening and allow cake to slide onto plate from pan.

10 Frost or not as desired.

Beautiful eggs in the rice maker.....::):

just added some earth balance butter to the inner pan, a tad of water, and a few eggs. Sprinkled in some salt and pepper and stirred.

Switched the unit on to cook....and beautiful fluffy eggs were ready in under 5 minutes.

It's rather like an omelet, if I had mushrooms, onions, fresh tomato, green onion, et al -- would make a delightful omelet.

As it is, I just had toast, so the eggs went on the buttered (earth balance is so good -- even better than real butter) toast with some mozzarella slices.

Scrumptious!

(I think these would go really well with some cold fresh grape juice.)

We had dinner at a restaurant last night for my son's birthday. He got a personal birthday cake for desert. The cake was rather nice.

But overall, the dinner sucked ass. The server was an ass. He treated me like shit. He was insulting and rude, throwing things at me, serving cold coffee, adding crap to the food we didn't ask for. He was blase, patronising and condescending. The dinner was a big pile of disappointing shit.

But the cake was alright. The server stuffed the remainder of it crassly into a too small container, so that it got smushed and all the icing and decorations were smeared off the cake and onto the container lid.

Asshole.

Eating the destroyed cake at the moment. The cake is alright, but the energy it absorbed from the shittiness of last night is infusing our space all over again.

Food can be very powerful. And when it sucks, it sucks super bad.

I wish I could have taken you and your little man with me last night to this Thai restaurant I tried for the first time.
I actually thought of you when they brought out my duck curry with a beautiful bowl of hot, steamy rice.
Never been there before though I've driven past it 1,000 times. Stopped there last night on a whim. Very good food- authentic and fresh. As per usual in Thai food, lots and lots of veggie options and plenty of pad Thai for the kids or those who don't do spicy.
The Thai tea was out of this world, the prices reasonable and the atmosphere was richly hued and vibrantly calm.
And they have a great low priced lunch special menu- everyday some $5 options.

Earth Balance is a vegan butter product composed of all natural ingredients. There are different versions designed for different preferences. There's the original, a soy version and an olive oil version.

It works in baking just as well as butter and is much tastier than margarine.

I was an avowed butter lover my whole life, even as a vegan I preferred butter. But now that I have Earth Balance, I much prefer the lighter, healthier taste of it. It's in most natural markets, and there is a non-vegan version, still healthy, in mainstream markets called Smart Balance.

Sounds like what XKEJag said. A build up of those bad bacteria, or a deficiency in good ones.

Try to eat more yogurt (unsweetened or sweetened with stevia), or buy some quality acidophiles from your health food store. It helps with those lovely yeast infections too.

May want to go on more of a protein diet for awhile as well. All carbs, no matter how healthy, turn into sugar which are a great treat for the little buggers. What a chore huh?...Steak for a week! ;)

Stevia is a good alternative sweetener even to raw sugar.

Definitely up the proteins particularly breakfast. I still occasionally go through something similar and it is tied into either gluten or processed flours like in pasta and bread. For me if I ate it for breakfast or lunch with any strong sugars like pancakes and syrup or pasta and wine for lunch I would feel weird and would definitely end up taking one of those can't stop power naps, sometimes right at my desk at work. I was tested for diabetes but at the time didn't have it, so the doc suggested I might have an imbalance that made me react that way and to try sticking to high proteins in the day then whatever I wanted at night and it worked.

Which is why I am right now eating a poptart and drinking a Pepsi Max. Living on the edge!

Candida... I just looked that up and I think you guys are right on target. Thank you so much for the advice. This makes perfect sense... the sugars break down and feed the candida.
I bet this explains the under eye circles. I've been looking like a raccoon lately. (sans the fur)

I know of a good organic blend to rid the body of candida, that people are to use in a cleansing type diet much as y'all described. (We did that for my son a few years back, to try to get to the root of an ongoing sneeziness and constant stuffiness)
I'll pick some up for myself and give it a go.

Thank you again! xoxoxox

Ok back to food. Having family come over today and we're going to grill some seafood. making a fresh salad from the garden, with red and romaine lettuces and fresh herbs. I can hardly wait!

Grilled Italian marinated chicken, roasted tomatoes, onions, summer squash mixed with fresh avocado pieces in a balsamic vinaigrette. Makes a tasty "salad" mix.

A good, delicious bowl of oatmeal makes life worth living today.
Blueberries and blackberries picked mere minutes ago adorn the top of whole oats, cooked with just a tiny bit of salt, sweetened with honey and spiced with cinnamon; heavy cream is smooth and soothing to the belly and the soul.

Yeah... I wish I could post the smell of my breakfast.

Yum! Nothing like REAL cream on top of the hot cereal. Good reminder.

Ok, I had cod fillets baked after being dipped in a lemon, egg and grain mixture.
Fresh, black cherries for dessert. Scalloped, cheesy potatoes with the fish (not out of a box).
Plus 1 liquor glass of Amoretto Actually there were 8 of us at the dining room table.

Sounds delicious! Love to eat meals like that any time of the year too. But wait! Must make dressing (stuffing) to go with it. Did you have mince meat
pie too?:2thumbs:

hamburger steaks stuffed with Monterrey and Jack cheese curds, mushroom, sweet pimiento, and onions. Homemade shells and cheese and a almost all home garden salad with spicy french dressing. The steaks had homemade Gooseberry and Rhubarb BBQ sauce.

It's amazing when you don't want to cook dinner what you can come up with. This time of year I always have a jar of the sauce so when I thawed the hamburger it went from meatloaf to that lol.

Mom's German Pork Chops

Fry seasoned and floured pork chops until done.
Place in a baking pan
Add un-diluted muchroom soup (enough to completely cover chops)
Top with french cut green beans.
Bake at 375 until mushroom soup just begins to brown.
Been eating this since I was a kid...yummy!
