That over population is, bottom line, the most serious threat to mankind is almost irrefutable. The number of people on this planet has been too high for decades. The planet cannot support all of us. Mans basic needs, in many areas of the world are not being met. Air...beathing is the most important thing man does on this planet...is foul and getting fouler. Water is scarce and being rationed. Shelter, for the teeming throngs in India, and elsewhere, is a blanket on a dirty city street.
Around the world, 1.7 billion people join the ranks of consumer every year. China, for an example, used 8 percent of the world's oil but is responsible for 37 percent of oil consumtion growth since the year 2000.
Our cities are crammed with more people than lived on the planet in 1960. Ever expanding slums, in all great cities, are breeding grounds for crime, drug use, disease, violence and misery. Behind the rich beach front facades of all tourist destinations exist this mass of hopeless humanity.
Jobs are scarce for this suffering mass and, it is easy to suspect, powerful forces like the idea. Most religions feed on misery, pain, and suffering. The Catholic church disapprove of birth control. Breed some more or stop doing it doesn't sell very well on some levels. Many of the world's elite love the hordes. Cheap labor. An excuse to keep armed men on guard to protect their estates, riches, and great holdings. Wars are fought over extending territories. Israel is a mess that no one can clean up.Wars are fough. the innocent die and wars make the rich richer. the powerful more powerful The poor dead; but not enough of them.
In the film MATRIX, man is compared to a virus: He does not seem to know when to quit breeding.
No one seems to have heard of Malthus, in THE PRINCIPLE OF POPULATION (1798) he boserved that food is reproduced arithmetically, humans geometrically. Few have read Dr. Hall's THE HIDDEN DIMENSION. Grow a jar of fruit flies and make a connection.
In 1950 the population of the world was 2,555,560,972. The average annual growth rate was 1.47, with an annual increase of 37,785,086. In 2003, the poplation was 6,365,144,680 and the growth rate had dropped to 1.14. However the average yearly population change was 72,496,962.
To contribute to this madness, Australia's treasurer, Peter Costello, wanted to offer a bounty of 2,000 Australian dollars for each baby born. Singapore backed a state-controlled media program promoting a "Let's Get on the Love Wagon " theme.
Perhaps, Armageddon would like to offer a forum on this apolcalyptic subject that all could address.

Yes the rich get richer and the poor get the picture!

As regards Peter Costello, the treasurer of Australia, he is a moron like a lot of other politicians. He said all Australians should do their patriotic duty and have a baby for the country. Why, so they will have a future population to send off to fight their slimy wars? I wonder.

Thanks for the link lotrfan. My main interest in it is to read the "TOO MANY RICH PEOPLE" part of the article. I never thought of what the result of having too many rich people would equal the burden on this planet. Good stuff.
