The NFC... probably the Eagles vs. the Saints, or Lions
AFC... the Patriots vs. the Raiders, or Browns
Green Bay will give New Orleans 4-points in the kiss of death opener. None of the lucky teams from last year will make it. GB, Atlanta, TB, KC, Seattle... nowhere.
The rule-change for kicking-off farther upfield is ridiculous. Might as well just make each team start from the 20.
point-spread spoilers; the Bears
Eagles beat Patriots in Superbowl.

Raiders? Are you kidding? They won't even make it to .500.
NFC= Eagles vs Falcons/Bucs/Saints
AFC= Pats vs Steelers
Lions will be above .500, and may even make it to the playoffs, but no Superbowl. Not yet any ways.

Its a little early for this discussion...Preseason means nothing...I dont bet until the third week in the season..I do play pools, but i loose money until the third or fourth week...
All that being said, Green Bay looks very intact, and rested. While its hard to repeat, if the refs are in your favor its much easier...There has been a good bit of player movement in the NFL.. I would think there will be a couple teams that you wont expect to do good that will do well..
Indy isnt Indy without Manning... Dont forget the Jets are still out there.... Steelers look good, But the corners are weak on defense, the Patriots have exploited this before..If the Eagles dont do well with the amount of talent they have, Theres something wrong..But then remember, the NFL is only for entertainment...drama being a part of that and drama can be bought

The Saints are in great shape for another run. I do not follow the eagles enough, but if money determined quarterback performance, the eagles will have nothing to fear with their massive payroll expense at the QB position.

In spite of last-night's 108-yard kickoff return, the NFL may have to rename the opener; The Touchback Classic. -As Lambeau Field's touchback-total (2) from all of 2010, was eclipsed in the first quarter (6)...

Few moments on the Packer/Saints game.
Green Bay played well. I still think they could repeat, but it will take a higher level of play than they exhibited on Thur. night.
Clay Mathews, BJ Raji, and A.J. Hawk all played well. As the year progresses, they will only get better, and this may lead to more sacks. The corners and secondary showed weakness at times.
The Saints acquisition of Darren Sproles was a Great thing..This added speed to the offense that they have been missing, not to mention the kick return. Sproles is a multifunctional player.
Drew Breese played very well, His instincts were great. He found holes in the secondary. His stats were just as good as Aaron Rodgers. The front line played well also, stopping Mathews from sacking Breese, buying time for Breese to throw.. In this game there were to many players on the Saints falling down and dropping balls. That and a turnover cost the Saints the game. I believe the Saints will shake off this loss and play very well this year... WEEK2 >Saints/ Bears...Good luck Bears, your going to need it...
At the end of the game A.J. Hawk got a pass interference call for batting down a ball on Sproles. If thats the way the NFL is going to call pass interference this year, then we are going to have some high scoring games...
Im not Cozy with the 35 yard kickoff this year..Its yet to be seen whether this will make kickoffs become stale and boring.. Also Players make big money because football is dangerous. When the game becomes less dangerous, then the players can make the same money we do.

A word in favor of the new kick off rule. We have seen some very exciting kickoff returns so far this year and there may be a reason why. Special team units are overpursuing the kick and after about 4 touchbacks I think their mind set changes a bit. This give the return man an advantage, if he can get through the first wave he has nothing but a kicker and an open field ahead. I think this rule is going to be successful beyond our wildest dreams. Fewer injuries, more exciting returns. If we could only get the announcers to stop whining about it.
A team is going to need luck to win the super bowl in any year with any team, take my beloved Detroit Lions for example, they could finish anywhere between 12 wins and 8 wins. Green Bay; is starting good as important as finishing good and remember they had a ton of good luck just to make the playoffs. It'll be a great season, good luck to all but the Chicago Bears... I hate those guys.

I probably fell-under the announcers' spells sometimes.
The announcers I've heard over the weekend, all did a pretty good job for week one... Just a single awful cliche, when someone said: " Great players play great in tense situations... "
As for the Lions... early lines have them giving KC 8-points... a day after they busted Vegas, which had predicted TB was going to beat them by 4.
An 11-5 record is my prediction. (including their 4-0 pre-season, they've now won 10-in-a-row, I think)

I will say that was a tough, bad weather game. The thing about Stafford is he has great vision and moves quickly to get the ball to an open man. Nobody open, he can squeeze the ball into a very tight space. I'll bet they play a lot better for the home opener.

Brady = Joe Montana of the 2000's/'10s. He will go down as 1 or 2, no question. However, did you see what Rodgers did in that opening game? Considering that Brady attempted 48 passes, while Rodgers only 35, that is.
Brady QB rating: 121.6
Rodgers QB rating: 132.1
Rodgers had the better game per pass, completing 77% of his passes to Brady's 66%, and throwing zero picks to Brady's 1, GG. :D
But I'm a little surprised at the beating the Steelers took. Maybe we'll see that Super Bowl hangover yet again.

The Eagles should be able to beat the Giants without Vick.. With the Giants receivers Hixon out for the season and Mario Manningham's status has yet to be determined after he sustained a concussion. The passing game for the Giants may be abysmal.
The Giants pass defense has been abysmal, letting the last to QBs throw for 300 yards a piece on them..
Eagles front 4 have been playing really well..if Trent Cole has a performance like he did against Atlanta, Manning is going to have a very rough day..

Now on to football...The Eagles should have beaten the Giants..It just goes to show you that you can have all the talent possible and still not win. That being said, i do think that there have been many times where "roughing the passer" could have been called and yet it was not. Vick has taken a beating, the Eagles offensive front line are not doing their job. If im the Eagles, im looking to replace a couple front line men in the off season...I think right now the Eagles whole season is in jeopardy...to me its a must win next week and every week after that. There are just to many good teams out there this year to be losing games one after another..

While the Saints had several starters out in the Houston game, the team played very well once the 2nd half came along... which seems to be a bit of a trend with them this season. If they find their rythem a bit earlier in the game, I am not sure any team is capable of beating their offense... except obviously Green Bay.

Ugh what a horrible game. It was like they just could not get their act together. When Vick went out, I knew it was game over. Kafka threw a couple beautiful passes - unfortunately to the wrong team. Where the hell in Vince Young? Why did we get him again?
If the O line does not protect Vick more this Sunday - he's going to be hurt worse and be out the rest of the season. I blame the media for the "Dream Team" label. That always seems to be the kiss of death.

Kafka wont fix the season...The Eagles have had front line problems for years..They get good QBs and they cant perform right do to this problem..They traded Kolb for Cromartie.. They have enough defensive talent that they should be a shut down defense, but they are not... Vince Young has a hamstring injury, he has been plagued with injury and has not performed up to expectations since college...But in order to see if he can produce results he does have to play the game..I think the Eagles should have picked up a veteran QB to back Vick up..Like say Hasselbeck from the Seahawks, who ended up at the Titans...But first and foremost they have to fix the offensive front line problems..
Vick is a mobile QB his moving around counters for a poor front line...however that comes with injury at times..

The Lions are gonna be a headache for Green Bay. They match-up well with 'em. The Saints should be there at the end. I don't know what to think about the Eagles. It's probably time that they dump Andy Ried. The pattern is too familiar... slow starts, decent middles, failures at end.
Worst network-bias of the weekend; Fox doing a pristine pander-segment about Dallas' defense-coach (and twin-brother of East Coast media-darling, Jets coach Rex Ryan); Rob Ryan, with sugar-sweet player comments and Dallas leading Detroit 27-3. Detroit went-on to outscore Ryan's D 31-3 without a word about Detroit's defensive-coach.

How bout those 49ers? Beating Philly despite two missed field goals of their own (people seem to forget this when they try to claim that the niners got lucky...), including a blocked one in which the Eagles player illegally stood on the backs of 49er blockers, which should have been a 15 yard penalty, and likely would have led to a touchdown, instead of a Philly score => a 10 point swing. With all missed field goals reversed, and that penalty leading to a touchdown, the final score would have been SF 31, Philly 20. Now shut up Eagle apologists. You lost because you got repeatedly stopped in the redzone and your defense was butter in the second half.

The only reason Vick is having the success he is having is Reid and Mornhegweg. The offense isn't the problem, and removing the system would hurt Vick and the offense. The defense is the issue, and sure Reid has some blame for that, but this wide-9 crap needs to go.

Sorry about Payton getting nailed. It looked awful. It seemed like it sucked the life out of the Saints. They'll hafta prop-him-up on one of those upright stretcher-things next game, because he'll tear a pressbox apart if they force him to coach from there.
The other coaching 'incident', involving Schwartz and Harbaugh... both seemed equally guilty. I saw one of the League-photographers caught-up in the chaos, so it'll be interesting to see NFL-Films version of it, sound and everything. You forget the Saints offensive line is one of the best... if not the best, in the NFL. 3 pro bowlers on that line, and the best part is that the Saints are at home and healthy. Detroit could not win against Green Bay's B team, and I find it hard that they will get by the Saints. I see the Saints winning by 17 or more points, but I do think that both teams will put up big numbers, and the game stands a chance of having a combined points total of over 100... which would likely be a playoff record.
Bob
Jan 5th, 2012, 8:25 AM
I can see the saints winning, but not by 17 points or more. Yes you do have a good O-line, but Detroit has the best D-line and they are deep and they rotate. If, (I know that's a big if...) we can slow down sprouls, and disrupt Brees, Detroit will have a shot. We lost to GB's "B" team, but we were outside in the cold and we played poorly, clock management in the last 3 minutes was awful. I don't think those mistakes will be repeated. The Saints are the best team in the NFL at this time, but the best team doesn't always win the game now do they...
Boulx Saints, Boulx....Go Lions!

Bob... I'll hand it to your team... what a season for them. I have not followed Detroit (probably the same goes for 99% of the US) since Barry Sanders left, but I still cannot fathom how your team will overcome the Saints in their house. Remember that if the Saints/Green Bay game had lasted another 15 seconds... perhaps only 5, the outcome might have been different. The Saints can handle being down by 7 or 8 with 60 seconds left and 80 yards to go... Detroit facing a quality team with their game faces on has not done so in the last month or so, and I am not sure they can handle the Saints. With that said, if they are able to upset the Saints, I would not be surprised to see them beat the 49ers and be back in Wisconsin for another shot... which they might overcome the buttPackers.

Yeah... I hope Bob is enjoying the halftime, as the Saints typically get their asses chewed at half and come back like a different team. I expect they are getting worked up one side and down the other. Their 2 fumbles really changed the momentum, and that chicken shit ref whistle blowing saved the Saints the embarrassing fumble touchdown recovery. If Detroit wins against the Saints, I will root for them, being they have had a worse streak than anything the Saints had when I was growing up in the Big Easy.

Dear Pico,
Congratulations on a well earned victory. Truly the New Orleans Saints ARE the best team in the NFL. I expect nothing less than a Super Bowl victory from them. Good luck the rest of the way and Geaux Saints!!!

Damn it! Come on Falcons! Being a New England resident I HATE New York teams.
Also, go Broncos! The Pats beat em once and we can beat them again if we see them in the playoffs again!
Woot! Up by 11 go Broncos!
YES! TEBOW WINS THE GAME BY HIMSELF! HE THREW THE BALL 20 YARDS TO HIMSELF THEN RAN THE REST OF THE WAY THERE AS DOWN FROM THE HEAVENS ANGELS CAME AND CLEARED A PATH FOR HIM!!!!

It is hard to believe the Broncos knocked off Pittsburg, so perhaps they can knock off the Brady and company ;)

Bob... I'll hand it to your team... what a season for them. I have not followed Detroit (probably the same goes for 99% of the US) since Barry Sanders left, but I still cannot fathom how your team will overcome the Saints in their house.
When the NFL-officiating crew is fully paid-off and Club Med bound, courtesy of the commish and Madison Avenue, it's easy to assess... NO recovers fumble; no whistle. Det recovers fumble; whistle.

I gotta agree completely.
Pssst, Aar... how's your WWF ripoff TD-move doing? See ya late late on draft-day, since ya wasted a 15-1 season.

I picked 3 out of 4, I don't know what the hell I was thinking with Denver, musta got sucked up into tebowmania,
Super Bowl picks Teams with the best defense win...

I think the Giants will beat the 49ers.... but lately I should stick to picking my nose instead of game winners. I see the Giants beating the hell out of the 49ers, and then the Pats tear apart the Ravens. I then see the Pats winning it all... but that is my picking, which of late has been awful.

Giants are getting hot at the right time, but there is the reality of traveling across the country to hostile territory on a short week, which will make things difficult. Of course, I hope they win because I don't think the Niners can beat new England. Would rather keep the perfect super bowl record.

Good game... My September prediction was Eagles over the Pats, so I just picked the wrong champion from the right division. Overall, it was a battle of mini-adjustments, as the Pats began lagging after their second touchdown. There were missed passes on both sides.

Oh was there a football game on Sunday? But the Pro Bowl was last week and that is the final game of the year. And notice the AFC team won. So clearly we are the champions of the NFL. *Twiddles thumbs and tries whistling innocently*

You can twist who the winner was any way you want, gg.

The winner was the more complete team. Can't win being one dimensional very many times. I'm just pissed that the Giants got lucky in the NFC championship game with two uncharacteristic fumbles and one no call on an obvious one (7 out of 10 forward progress isn't called on that...). Oh well. Giants were clearly the better TEAM Sunday. Much better special teams, a better defense and a better running game.
