A.) This might help the peace process (if any) take a turn for the better;
B.) Israel won't give an inch, the peace process is doomed.
C.) The Palestinian authority will harden its stance towards Israel, more violence, the peace process is doomed.
D.) Any other scenario is likely to happen.

. . .And (no) I didn't "poke him with a stick", but, I'd be willing to bet he's been dead a lot longer. They didn't have a choice @ this point. Bodies just start gettin' awfully ripe after three days. The only thing that's been keeping him more-or-less 'pristine' is the amount of preservatives in the food he ate, (but, then again, THAT only works for so-long!)
ah, well. . . Joe (Bigsky770) :vbroll:

The Israelis have been under his influence for too long for any serious change anytime soon.

I chose C)
He was carried from France to Egypt in an Airbus A340-600 - that was the deciding factor for me.

Stayed up late to watch the burial. It was pretty amazing. No guns in site until Arafat's coffin came out of the chopper, then everyone and their mother had guns, and were firing them in the air (Do these people know that bullets have to come back down?). I thought all hell was going to break loose, and they were going to try and march Arafat's coffin to Jerusalem. They didn't though, and for all the chaos going on, it didn't get too out of control. The West gets more out of control when their sports team win a championship. Go figure! :vbroll:

Seems theres a rumour going around that he was poisoned by his own group hamas. And the bible code predicted that he would be assainated. Does anyone know about these rumours?

You know, VR, I've always been wondering about that. Do they shoot blanks? Think not - they would use tons of those, and they're not free. Can you get really injured from a bullet falling back to earth? Wouldn't surprise me at all, after all it's a relatively heavy little object.. When that falls on your head, it might make a serious dent. How high does a bullet go anyway, when fired straight into the air? 1,000 feet?

I would guess much higher..... then on the way down it reaches terminal velocity (150mph?)

Occasionally here in the U.S. someone gets killed by a bullet returning to the ground. This usually happens on Holidays like the 4th of July and New Years Eve. The last case I heard of was in Louisiana during the 4th of July, like 3 years ago or something.

A mate of mine told me that there was a show called Myth Busters on pay tele ... apparently they did the ol drop a coin from the top of sky scraper (well they didn't do it as such but worked out the speed the coin would reach) and it wasn't enough to kill somebody. Don't quote me on this but I think he said it reached a terminal velocity of about 65km/h or so. Get hit in the right place and you might losses n eye but death was a no go.
I'm not sure if this would apply to the bullet scenario or not but I imagine it might be pretty close.
Anyone else catch this episode ?

. . .We were in the chatroom the other night talking about that, Micky had asked me that question. Here I am trying to work-out the max. velocity of a high-powered rifle round figuring @ about anywhere around 2,200-2,400 feet-per-second (or more) weight of projectile @ around 70-80 grains lead-copper jacket would max a height of (about) 4-5 miles before falling back under the pull of gravity, owing to the fact that it is falling yet no-longer propelled at such speeds the falling projectile encountering cross-winds may not (probably) have anymore effect than say/a large ball of hail, (which could still [ouch!] yah). . .
. . .RavenWhiteFang said she had caught that episode, and that coins thrown from a great height (are not) as dangerous as had been thought, she had said that on the show (when they had done this), many of the coins had even never made it to ground, having landed on ledges (or) lower decks.
. . .One of the other things I believe she had said (Raven, correct me on this if I'm wrong) is that part of the resistance factor here (of the coins) is due to the 'flatness' of the coins. I'd like to see the same tests done with spherical objects such as ball-bearings or marbles, which would be a little closer to the config. of a the type projectile you're looking for here.
. . .Personally, I LOVE that show "Mythbusters", sorry I missed that episode. perhaps I'll catch it next time it airs.
. . .POST ADDITION! yeah, (heh). . .(me gotta stick to da rules too!) Just noticed how-far off topic this had become/so a little post note here, I voted for No.#3, I really do think the Palestinians will harden their stance and 'peace' will be a next-to-a-near impossibility, [sadly]. . .

**ASIDE**
Yeah, I caught that ep of Mythbusters. They concluded that even if a penny could make it down to the ground at top velocity it wouldnt do as much damage as one would think. They tested the theory by rigging a nail gun to shoot a penny at the supposed velocity from a drop that high. Safe to say that they shot the one guy in the ass with the penny at close range, he got a welt, but that was about it.
As Joe said before, on the show they said that because of the wind gusts at that height and the way they blow against buildings, something flat like a penny would act like a wing, slowing its descent. They also showed the ledge where ppl had tossed objects off the building to see if it was actually true, lots of change, shoes, hats..etc on that ledge.

On topic, Arafats Nephew is going to peruse the hospital documents, wonder if we will ever find out how he really died.
JERUSALEM (CNN) -- Yasser Arafat's nephew, who is the Palestinian representative to the United Nations, will arrive in Paris Friday to review Arafat's medical file, Palestinian officials said Thursday. Palestinian officials had requested earlier to see the medical report of the Palestinian leader's death, but they were refused by French doctors citing laws that allowed only the deceased's family to view confidential medical files.

Yeah, I agree, I don't think a penny could kill if dropped from great heights, due to its shape. I think a bullet can, especially since the news told me it did, and we know the news never lies or fabricates stories. :smokin:

Raven and Vegas, you are both correct. Due to its shape, the velocity of the penny will only go a max of 60mph.

Arafat's Nephew Says Cause of Death Inconclusive
Nov 22, 2004 — By Joelle Diderich
PARIS (Reuters) - Yasser Arafat's nephew said on Monday that medical records released by France showed no trace of known poisons in the late Palestinian leader but the cause of death remained a mystery.
Nasser al-Kidwa, Palestinian envoy to the United Nations, said the 558-page medical report gave "no clear diagnosis" of what caused his uncle's death in a French military hospital on Nov. 11 and he refused to rule out foul play.

Well, as soon as I heard he was dead (the first time, before the french guy said he was still alive) I immediately thought that he was poisoned. It was like current version of The Chinese Connection when Bruce Lee's 'teecha' was poisoned and they had that banner with "Sick Man of Asia" written on it. I was watching the news thinking, "Why did you kill my teecha? Why, why, why, why, why, why, why!!!"

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Citing a "renewed opportunity for peace" in the Middle East, the Bush administration said Wednesday it will give $20 million directly to the Palestinian Authority.
