I had a dream last night...purely frightening..

When I was a child, I used to see a hand following me...just a hand. And last night in my dream I had a dream that I was seeing the same hand yet again. Details are fuzzy. Basic theme:
My mother and father TALKED to the spirit that was chasing me with his hand...they were told there is no heaven and no God, but instead when I die I will become the slave of this ghost.
I overheard my mother and father saying "How do we tell him there is no God?"

Woke up in a sweat...it was one of those dreams that was just..so real and so detailed in all regards...

I don't think it means anything--or hopefully not??
Either way, just more or less wanted to write this down so I wouldn't forget it...comment if you want

i used to have dreams that scared the shit out of me, and they kind of related to things that have actually occured to me. in real life when me and my mom were moving out of her bf's house(long story, he isnt abusive or anything) he got in his car and came speeding after us(dont know why) and my mom never stopped untill we got back to our appartment.(i dont really remember the reason for why this all went on) and one time we had this guy in a shitty bronco come after us with a shitty little police light in his dash board and she decided to keep driving in order to call the cops and make sure he was really a cop. (they let us off)

basically at the time it was really messed up. but anyway i havent experienced anything like that and a while ago i had a dream that me and my mom were in our new van at a red light on an intersection heading home, and these really weird cartoonish looking classy/spooky/ominus cars pulled up on both sides next to us an one behind us and they gave off a very eerie/frightening vibe. i pushed down the lock button and locked all of our doors and we acted like it was nothing and drove on our way when the light turned green and the cars all followed us. we ended up speeding home and flying into our driveway and the cars werent in sight untill we got up to the front door.

after that i woke up breathing heavy and scared because it seemed so real and i litterally expected a bunch of guys with weapons and shit to bust in my door even though i was aware that it was just a dream. i had to turn the light on and sit up for a while and calm down before i could even think of trying to go back to sleep.

I always was having a dream depicting me as an old man with a beird. My neighbor's dog would jump the fence when I was gardening and bite my middle finger off two knuckles deep. Another "night terror" I used to have was going to a supermarket and not being able to stop eating.

Being six years old, i guess that i could not come up with anything more creative.

Though, I believe that all dreams are just mirror images of your thoughts and fears (I was always afraid that I would lose a limb/I have a grandmother who will never stop feeding me, not necessarily a bad thing). Maybe you just have been thinking too much about unfortunate events or seen something disturbing where your subliminal mind brought up questions of your faith in God?

. . .I am sharing this BECAUSE I believe (every now-and-then) during our sleep, MOST OF THE TIME "WE" just "DREAM". Times like that, "Dreams can be so full of symbolism and cannot (of course) be taken 'as literal', often they are just a collection of our fears and worries, dressed to the 9's in the strangest of ways that we cannot take them seriously. We awaken and rationally brush away any possible hints of reality they can contain for us; Better than 90% of time (it is true) nothing tangible for use in your everyday life can be discerned even upon recall. But then, THERE ARE THE "OTHER" types of dreams, so real are they, not even within the same class as that which I'd mentioned previously. This dream I relate to you was like the latter of the two.
. . .It was most vivid in detail and with this dream helped form my ideas concerning "Reincarnation", (though NOT the 'only' piece of which to go on), I really do believe in this though there are many (undoubtedly) which would laugh at the idea, I AM ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN I've been here before.
. . .Well, not "here" exactly in geographical location, though I was upon earth. I am led by this most vivid dream that in my last incarnation I lived in pre-WWII Germany; In my dream, I can recall my wife then as being in her late 50's, as I was also. We had children, though they were all grown and gone. I believe (5) children was what we had. (in my "dream" I had memory of them, and that number). We were of the "Jewish Faith". I remember our house, which was more akin to a little better than a shack; It had only one room in it/where we slept, ate, lived in general.
. . .The day had arrived (in this dream) where we had heard that the Nazis were clearing-out our area, we knew what to expect; In this dream, I looked at my wife, and she at me, with a feeling of resignation, we knew what was to become of us. Strange, there was no feeling of 'trying to fight' it/perhaps in the dream, we had known that we were too old to offer resistance, so we did not try. I remember them coming for us/in my dream I recall one dressed in an green uniform like a faded olive colour/with a sort of reddish-ribbon sewn parallel on either side of the lapels. I arose to my feet, and going out the door, I recall the sunlight. It was too beautiful a day to think of such, though I knew where I was to go. Then the dream (nightmare would be more appropriate) ended.
. . .Needless to say, I was shocked out of my ever-living GOURD! I was thinking to myself (for the rest of that day AND BEYOND) WTF? brought THAT dream on? I'd seen no movies about ANYTHING LIKE THAT, (or) read any books; The only thing I had on my mind (at that time) was "How to come-up with money to hot-rod my '74 Olds Cutlass" -w- the 350 cu. inch "Rocket" engine and whether-or-not to trash the "Rochester Quadrajet" carburetor (which was a real dog) it seemed no amount of adjustment to the jets could rectify when it 'bogged' between 1st and 2nd gear drag-racing.
. . .You see, I wasn't so different? then anyone else my age at the time; I was a long-haired nutball that partied with the best of them and chasing-down brew in the park with my friends until we were FUBARED, if yah catch my drift. . .It certainly makes you re-evaluate EVERYTHING. You end-up asking "Why me? Why couldn't I dream about that foxy-chick down the street instead of this?"
. . .These dreams are for a REASON, of that I am sure. Whether to remind us of where we have BEEN (or) where we are GOING. But I do believe that every life amounts to a life lived of experiences, and LOVE, and LIVING, and yes, even of DEATH. We are NOW whether we are aware of it or not, a total compilation of ALL WE HAVE EVER BEEN, and in this direction, we are to keep moving along until we perfect what it is we are to become.

To close, I do believe that ONLY when we are on the other side, do we understand and recollect all the lives we have lived, (good [or] bad) all the experiences we've had. everything that makes 'us' a new and unique creation.

well since i find it impossible to imagine total non-existance, i hope and think that we do reincarnate whether we do really know about it or not..even though i wish that we did so that i could seriously carry on where i left off. i would love to see what becomes of the universe thousands-billions of years from now, wether or not humans do survive that long. i think once this conciousness ends(death) that we probably are reborn..even though its not us but it is, ya know?

. . .Have happened to myself easily 20+ years ago; to say that I was then obsessed with the topic since then, would be putting it mildly. After the experience, I had read as much as I could possibly read upon the subject, so-much so that authors/book titles are as a blur. Some features stand-out in this subject, though. The cycles of "Birth and "re-birth". I am sure that there is a way to "cheat" the game, (as it were) to speed along ones' progress, one that I hope to be able to exercise.
. . .In ALL of what I have read, Once a soul enters unto the other side, they are very nearly compelled to try to discard all that they had lived in the previous life; This is so that (it is thought) they can achieve progression in the "honourable" way, although there are other reasons, I will speak of. . .
. . .Suppose you were to die an absolutely HORRID death; Burned alive, murdered by a crowd slowly, painfully, in a most torturous manner; Needless to say, the damage to your psyche' would be carried on WELL PAST your "physical end", and in this, your recovery from this most horrid ending is ESSENTIAL to your progression; And in THAT, you would need to have all memory of that erased. That is the other purpose.
. . .From what I recall from what I have read, this comes as an "active choice" to discard the past, (or) a symbolic act, as in "drinking the water of forgetfulness" which will erase all recall of the past, and you can begin anew; Although, warning here, YOU will have to face the same demons and temptations you had succumbed to in the previous life, for you are to OVERCOME them in order that you may progress to the next level. This will happen whether you CHOOSE to forget or NOT.
. . .I have made-up my mind that I will attempt to try to carry with myself everything that I possibly can; (Think of it this way) Have you ever played a video-game, where you can learn the 'gamecheats' in order to win the game? It can (sort of) be likened to that. I have made up my mind consciensly, that I WILL NOT FORGET ANYTHING.
. . .In what I have read, there are children RIGHT NOW WITH US that have made this choice in the previous life; THESE are the 'enigmas', the 'child prodigies', (many of which) there is NO KNOWN WAY to simply "explain away" WHAT THEY KNOW (or) HOW THEY KNOW IT, they just do. They are few, and granted, they do not "appear" as normal, though have you ever met one? Oftentimes you will be taken by surprise as they will display wisdom, knowledge and talents FAR BEYOND their chronological age. It's also a given that they do not mix-well WITH children of their own age. They are thought of as 'weird', and although they prefer the company of adults, there is the block that many adults cannot accept them for what they are, (and in doing so) treat them as children. So, they often become as loners, they just will NOT 'fit-in' with everyone else; it's just not so-easy for them to do. So you see, there IS A PRICE for "choosing to be different" as they have. (They are warned of this as well).

Hope to get into more of this subject later. . .

When I was about six or seven I had a weird dream about hell and/or the devil. I can't remember any details from the dream itself, but I do remember that before I went to sleep that night I was excited for Christmas coming up in two weeks. I had a nightlight right by my bed, and I woke up from the dream in a cold sweat, deathly afraid of the light coming out of the nightlight; so I rolled over into the corner of my bed against the wall and put my blanket over my head. It felt as if there was something evil glaring at me. It was very scary, but only happened once. :yikes:

. . .(heh) though I see, I am straying from the original topic here, which is supposed to be about "Bad Dreams". (sorry 'bout that!) :D although I am sure everyone can see just how easily the one can lead to the other. I've read VOLUMES on the subject and part of it is also my OPINION of what I think happens RE: "Reincarnation", tell yah what (just to keep things proper) ask me questions HERE:

http://forums.armageddononline.org/showthread.php?t=2817

. . .And I'll do my best to answer what I BELIEVE in this subject. I don't know everything concerning the topic, but I think we can get a lively discussion going!

I also have a bad dream sometimes, but strange enough it has been an exact copy ALL of my life, since earliest childhood. I always wake up, soaking wet and gasping for breath.

This is the dream: I stand in the air, above me and around me only sky of a lightblue color. In front of me is this big cumulus cloud formation. On the cloud stands a male choir with hundreds of thousands of singers.

They start singing very softly. There is no melody, only sound, a sort of humming wind. The sound is beautiful, and it really moves me. Then the singing gradually gets louder and louder - it's still beautiful, but it starts to get a bit frightening. Louder and louder it gets, and now I can see the mouths of the singers opening wider and wider, until they're bucket sized. The singing is now a screaming coming from a million mouths, and louder and louder it gets, until it makes my head burst, explode really, and blood and brains splatters all around. Then after my head explodes I hear this muffled laughter coming from those mouths in the dark of my death, a sound as if you're under water and your ears fill up. That's when I wake up.

Now if that is not a strange story, I give up. Anyone care to give an explanation of it?

. . .And you have been having this SAME dream since childhood? Hans, I had to get-out my "Dream Interpretation" book for that one; The name of the book is "Ten Thousand Dreams Interpreted" (or) "What's In A Dream" Copyrighted in 1931. I believe in dream interpretation to a degree, but that degree hinges upon the subjective meaning for the individual in lieu of the symbolism within the dream. (and your dream is RICH in symbolism, that's for sure!) Another issue that plays a part is the age of the dreamer, because those subjective meanings will change with time and your having grown into adulthood. What symbols had meant for you at an age (under 10) will not mean the same thing as, say for yourself when you are a man of 25.
. . .Can you recall ANY events in your childhood just around the time you first started dreaming this? (any traumatic that may have translated into the dream? I am curious and have to ask). . .
. . .In the meantime, I have my book out and perhaps we can decode the dream and the symbolism contained therein.

To Dream of the sky signifies distinguished honours and interesting travel with cultured companions, if the sky is clear. Otherwise, it portends blasted expectations, and trouble with woman.

To dream of seeing dark heavy clouds, portends misfortune and bad management. If rain is falling, it denotes trouble and sickness.
To see bright transparent clouds with the sun shining through them, you will be successful after trouble has been your companion. (nothing about puffy-white cumulous clouds). . .

To dream of a choir, foretells you may expect cheerful surroundings to replace gloom and discontent.

They start singing very softly. There is no melody, only sound, a sort of humming wind.

To hear singing in your dreams, betokens a cheerful spirit and happy companions. You are soon to have promising news from the absent. If there are notes of sadness in the song, you will be unpleasantly surprised at the turn your affairs will take. Ribald (crude, offensive) songs, signifies gruesome and extravagant waste.

To dream of the wind blowing softly and sadly upon you, signifies that great fortune will come to you through bereavement. If you hear the wind soughing, denotes that you will wander in estrangement from one whose life is empty without you.

To dream of harmonious music, omens pleasure and prosperity. Discordant music foretells troubles with unruly children, and unhappiness in the household.

To dream that you are frightened at anything, denotes temporary and fleeting worries.

(looked all through the book for any similar words [to 'mouth'] phrases / descriptives, came up empty on this passage)

(Same results with the word "screaming". Looked for yelling, shouting, hollering anything that related to 'loud' i.e. 'vocal'. found zip.)

To dream of explosions, portends that disapproving actions of those connected with you will cause you transient displeasure and loss, and that business will also displease you. To think your face, or the face of others, is blackened or mutilated, signifies you will be accused of indiscretion which will be unjust, though circumstances may convict you (later in this paragraph it goes on) - - "have been blown by an explosion" foretells that unworthy friends will infringe on your rights and will abuse your confidence.

To dream of an injury [to self] being done you, signifies that an unfortunate occurrence will soon grieve and vex you.

To dream of a head severed from it's trunk, and bloody, you will meet sickening disappointments and the overthrow of your dearest hopes and anticipations.

To see your own brain in a dream, denotes uncongenial surroundings will irritate and dwarf you into an unpleasant companion.

To hear mocking laughter, denotes illness and disappointing affairs.

Dreams related to death or dying, unless they are due to spiritual causes, are misleading and very confusing to the novice in dream lore when he attempts to interpret them. A man who thinks intensely fills his aura with thought of subjective images active with the passions that gave them birth; By thinking and acting on other lines, he may supplant these images with others possessed of a different form and nature. In his dreams he may see these images dying, dead or their burial, and mistake them for friends or enemies. In this way he may, while asleep, see himself or a relative die, when in reality he has been warned that some good deed or thought is to be supplanted by an evil one. To illustrate: If it is a dear friend or relative whom he sees in the agony of death, he is warned against immoral or other improper thought and action, but if it is an enemy or some repulsive object dismantled in death, he may overcome his evil ways and thus give himself or friends cause for joy. Often the end or beginning of suspense or trials are foretold by dreams of this nature. They also frequently occur when the dreamer is controlled by imaginary states of evil or good. A man in that state is not himself, but is what the dominating influences make him. He may be warned of approaching conditions or his extrication from the same. In our dreams we are closer to our real self than in waking life. The hideous or pleasing incidents seen and heard about us in our dreams are all of our own making, they reflect the true state of our soul and body, and we cannot flee from them unless we drive them out of our being by the use of good thoughts and deeds, by the power of the spirit within us. (page 187, "What's In A Dream")

. . .Subjective, and (honestly) I can see after chatting with you how much of this was so ill-fitting in a re-read. It's probably best to attempt interpretation with the strength of the focus upon the person's situation and individual perspective, and then (perhaps?) try to establish the 'common threads' between the two. . .Whadyah think?

I guess the choir stands for the church, or religion. I came to this conclusion, because in the dream I am not on this earth, but in the sky. Religion is about things that are not of this earth.
The cumulus cloud formation stands for heaven, I think. Heaven like a child sees it.

Church / religion - a group of people I have never truly became a member of. And I felt that detachment right from the start. At first their singing was "sweet" and "soft", which could be translated into sunday school and all the exciting and beautiful stories that I was told there.

Later on the singing got loud and nasty - the threatening with damnation and hell. My death is the culmination of it all - religion was literally going to be the death of me, for all eternity. In hindsight though, I think it was I who made my head explode... A clear choice to make the singing stop - to bring it back to a sound under water.
Submersion into water is like a return to the safety of the womb. With that in mind you might even say that the dream has a good ending. To be honest, the nightmareish character has diminished over the years. I can now wake up from the dream and have a feeling that I can shrug my shoulders over the laughter at the end. This was quite different some 40 years ago.

Religion is no longer posing a threat to me, as I have given it a place in my life where it can no longer hurt me or dominate my existence. This might all sound a bit far fetched, but to me it's the most plausible explanation.
