I got a problem with these landfills everywhere.

They should not be allowed to pollute the environment. This could be leading causes to our atmospheric malfunctions. All knowing how that rotted smell reaks it's havoc day after day. Talk about diseasing. And all the people violated having to endure this disease. The EPA needs to nip this one in the bud. .
Now as far as I'm concerned, this comes under the topic of technology. And I have a suggestion.
Large fans can be placed around the perimiter of the landfills. Possibly facing them straight up. Running them at a speed suitable to dissapate the rotted odor.
There you go. No more smell. And the landfills are out hot water.
I resent them damn landfills and there pollution, and I think somebody ought to do something about it! IMMEDIATELY

Yer that might be one way to solve a problem. There must be an even better soloution. Recycling is slowly starting to work in the UK, but we need some sort of device which can recycle our materials into a form of matter which we can use for power or recreate another object??

An suggestions anyone.....meanwhile the Ozone layer has been damaged by all this, by research has shown that the Ozone can repair itself, while this may be the case now, it may not be in the future.

This person has an ingenious idea for the trash problem, and makes it Useful. Read about it about a year ago.

y'know, landfills are filled with the refuse and debris of our so-called civilization. therefore, complaining about them is like complaining about the fact that your shit stinks.

or, it's like asking, "Who shit in my pants?"

the fan idea only moves the stink to somewhere else, which is a typical Western Whitey solution ("Keep it over there, Lord..."). as long as You don't have to worry about it, who gives a fuck about the people over the hill...

in life things stink - it's called nature. our recent obsession with sterility and neurotic cleanliness is an aberration which future generations will curse us for. already there's serious discussion as to the survivability of the next generation of kids who are raised in isolated, sterile environments...seems as soon as they get out in the real world, they get sick and die.

I wonder why...

Yer I see what you are sayin, generally the more "Human" waste should break down fairly easily. My interpretation of landfills are all sorts of stuff like washing machines which are knackered and plastic bottles and paper which could be recycled.

I think if we did major recycling on as many items as possible it would solve a lot of problems, I think it will be down to the governments of the world to put this into action. It will also need strong will power of everyone.

meh, if we wait for the governments i think we will be waiting for forever.....we have to take action citizens!!!

Yes, recycling would not only save the land fill sites, but would also save resources for tomorrows generation......I would not like to be on earth further into the future if we keep going and polluting the way we are at the moment...we are not leaving much of a world for our children to inherit

How about everyone disposing of their OWN WASTE. Betcha they'll start
recycling in a jiffy.

Yer they probably will, but there will be one ass hole in every street which won't, REVOLT!

my suggestion is to take the 'ass hole' (also known as fuck face in my neck of the woods) and turn them into compost. it's easy, environmentally friendly and does as good a job of disposing of the incriminating evidence as sulphuric acid, it just takes longer.

of course, this creates an even worse smell than regular compost...

Yer that might work Mez....so what have we learnt from this thread... well governments aren't gonna do much so we must. We need some weird device for use in the home to recycle our house hold waste, and we must turn fuck faces into compost!!!

I don't know if you have noticed or not, but, as hard as it is to belive, we only have a finite amount of space on our planet.

And landfills probably won't be placed in an extremely remote location... as most workers dont want to transport waste that far...

Over here we pay a lot to dispose our garbage, we have a different range of garbage bags to recycle about anything.

Very few people do not recycle over here, because it costs you even more....

If you don't use the bags as you should, they just leave it on the side-walk, so you have to take a costly new bag, recycle and put it on the sidewalk the next week.

There were a lot of complaints in the beginning, but now everyone got used to it and it works quite well. Seems that other countries should take an example on this!!

dang all we get is the paper recycling bags, stupid council for my area, i'd rather recycle no matter what the cost. I'll pay anything to keep the world in good shape for my children and their children, and so on and so forth........

Recycling would also be easier if the operations in place would charge less. For large scale recycling pick up and containment most commercial companies charge a shitload (we're talking those big bin trucks with the side or front mounted Bin Racks) with no rebate to the customer for the materials they provided. Therefore, all the effort that goes into prepping a Recycling Zone (picking up materials, collating, placing in bins, usually by janitorial staff) is lost effort and man hours and the money to be made from the materials is also a write off.

Is it any wonder corporations only do large scale recycling because of the Public Visibility factor? I myself recycle stuff as much as possible (I even use dishwater for my patio plants) but I couldn't see paying however much a month on top of the 'garbage' pick up costs just so that 'other garbage' gets its own 'ride.'

and, sadly, most times the recycling bins provided for public use that I see have been used as alternate garbage cans by unthinking people. In a metropolitan center this usually means with recycling bin is full of 'real' garbage.

so the Opportunity to recycle can be provided but that doesn't mean people will do it. Even the most 'green' of city folk (myself included) can be forgetful and with millions of us crowded together ... well, that is one shitload of potential forgetfulness.

And no matter how 'Green' one place might be, the rest of the world might not be in the best position to emplace such organizations upon their society (like we're likely to see a mass North Korean recycling program soon, hee hee). so the problem will continue to pop up from place to place like a jumping fire or malignant, persistent cancer.

But take heart in the fact that the Most you can do is the Best you can do. As long as more and more individuals try and make even a small effort, things will improve. It just takes a while, is all...

Obviously... there is no quick fix for the air pollution emitted by landfills.
And obviously the EPA is either too ignorant, or too immature to understand the monster at large.
In this new age of sue me sue you., knock down the better businessman. Why not a little pressure? Who do we blame? Where is that scapegoat.
I'm afraid! And not just of women!
I'm afraid...
If we don't nip this one in the bud., things are going to get worse. ALLOT WORSE
