Here ya go Atheists. Convert me!

I think it was liberdave who said:

If a God exists, then why did he create evil? And dont say its because we have to learn from our mistakes! how the fuck do you learn anything when a sudden ice age errupts, as it did 10 000 years ago. And all those ever appering terrorists? I mean, if he is that allmighty, and can create anything, and brake all the laws in the universe, he would know that violence creates violence. I mean, if he now created us, he would also know the reason why all the countries in the world who has the death penalty, also has the highest murder rate. Plus, there is no concrete evidence that everything must have a creator. the theory itself destroys itself.

This is a carbon copy of the Santa thread. You're just substituting "Santa" with "God". Read the Santa thread and you'll realize that faith is based on faith while logic is shunned. If you don't read it for that, then you should at least read it to find out why Santa gives out lumps of coal to bad little boys like you...

Prove to me that the Easter Bunny DOESN'T exist. See? ANYBODY can claim that just about ANYTHING can exist. Thus, the burden of proof is upon those who claim that something EXISTS, not upon those who claim that something does NOT exist...

Heh heh heh... you're evil, Mara! And I DIG that! *Mara Blushes Aw Shucks :Bdevil:
Hey... for a long time now I have had a fixation on Darth Vader. Millennium ago when I was in college I had a life sized Darth Vader Mannequin (Not a cardboard standup) in my dorm room. Scared the heck out of several people... My roommate and I just called him Dad.

When are you going to see it? I've got tickets for Saturday night. I CANNOT WAIT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The kid in me wants to see if I can score a ticket to one of the showings tonight. The adult in me (which is older than Yoda) reminds me I have to be up at the butt crack of dawn to get to work. It will most likely be this Sunday. And... I CANNOT WAIT EITHER!!!!!!!!! Yea!!!! Star Wars!!!! I already bought the book but I have not read much.... yet...

You'd think at least one satellite would have spotted Santa.

He has flying reindeer, a bag that can fit an infinite number of toys, and he somehow fits don't every kids chimney...even if they don't have one. I'm pretty sure a guy with those skills can avoid detection if he wanted to.

God exists because if He didn't, all the assholes and weaklings in the world would have been served up as Soylent Green long ago.

God exists because He is the only power that could allow so much stupidity and ignornace to prosper freely in the world.

God exists because He said so, dammit!

You'd think that at least ONE person would have seen God in the past 2000 years... By the way, check out the Santa thread that I started and you'll see that we use the same "logic" that YOU use to prove that God exists in order to prove that Santa exists. << several tables begin turning >>

I'm not trying to prove God exists, just pointing out why I think comparing it to Santa is useless.

I'm not trying to prove God exists, just pointing out why I think comparing it to Santa is useless.
But it's NOT useless. It shows that ANYBODY can "prove" that ANYTHING exists simply by requiring people to prove that it DOESN'T exist. It's a silly "proof"...

All I'm doing is speaking my mind, I have no interest in changing yours.
Fair enough. I'm not so much interested in changing someone's beliefs as I am to change their way of thinking and their train of logic...

Bravo both of you!!! Well Said!!! :headbang:
I believe you both hit the nail straight on the head. Too many (NOT ALL) posters here try to make you change your opinions to suit their beliefs. They don't realize that what makes discussion interesting is the diversity of beliefs presented.

Why?

In the beginning of mankind, there was widespread belief in a God or Gods. Since atheism is "breaking the tradition", so to speak, the burden of proof would be on you. Atheists claim to be more intelligent and "enlightened", so lets see you guys prove it.

When? I don't think any active atheist posters here claim to be more intelligent or "enlightened" in any way.

I read up somewhere that during the first million years of humanity, there were no religious beleifs at all. It is a "recent" event.

Again I must agree. I have read back through several threads on Religion and find that to be true. No boasting of intelligence. Actually I think a persons intelligence can be seen in the manner and content of their posts. If we all agreed (and again I am agreeing with someone... go figure! LOL!) on everything then this site would be an awfully boring place.

If this is to spite that stupid "Forgotten Rebel", I am pro thread on this one.

You are a dumb <expletive>, now that we've seen calling people names doesn't matter and doesn't effect me or you just drop it. I don't know what you got against me, maybe it's perhaps that you have some sort of inferiority complex, I don't know and I really don't care.

I decided when I get some time that I'm going to go through all your posts (or however many it takes) and see the blatent ignorance and stupidity that you display on a regular basis. And turn it into a brand new thread. Instead of attacking me how about you attack my ideas? Or is that too hard for a simpleton like you?

Let me explain something to you, the following quote is taken from 'Ideas of the Great Philosophers' by William S. Sahakian (you know books, right? they're the rectangular things with pages in them with words typed on the pages)

Under Epistemology and Logic [outlines the various fallacies people making arguements fall into]

Arguement Ad Hominem (appeal to personal ridicule)
"The fallacy of shifting an arguement from the point being discussed to the personality of an opponent is known as arguement ad hominem. Instead of dealing with an opponent's thesis on its merites, the fallacious arguement attacks his reputation and moral character, or refers to his low intelligence, inferior social position, lack of education, or similar shortcomings. (The fallacy is illustrated by statements such as: "Would you accept evidence presented by this low contemptible heathen?" etc." "

If you were semi-intelligent, you would accuse me of doing the same thing to you, but there is one difference. You don't present ideas to be discussed, instead you make ridiculus comments about my character, which then causes me to make self-explanitory posts such as this one.

You call me stupid yet you offer no proof???

Forgotten Rebel
May 20th, 2005, 8:03 PM
Why?

For many reasons, one being that we are not the ones proposing that an invisible man lives in the sky. You put the idea out there, and it's your duty as a god-fearing christian to proove it true to try and convert us heathans. This is how debate works, you are trying to proove something exists so you have to put foreward evidence justifying this belief. Not the other way around.

Where you there Stewey? Did you have first or second hand accounts of belief in Gods? If you do, cite them. I've never claimed to me more intelligent, merely more logical. As for enlightenment, it's typically religious people who are the 'Chosen Ones', I've never heard an atheist to claim he was better then other people because he believes in atheism.

You are stupid. Stop trying to fit in by buying your wardrobe at Hot Topic, and listening to Good Charlotte, Rancid, and Simple Plan. Oh man, living in Suburban Canada is soooo hard, so I must fight against the system, rebel and so on. Go teenage angst!

Once again proof?

Stop trying to fit in

My self-esteem is sufficient enough as to not warrant me needing to seek justification through something as material as clothing.

by buying your wardrobe at Hot Topic,

Once again, I don't even think we have Hot Topic's in Canada, I've never seen one, and I've never pruchased anything from one.

and listening to Good Charlotte, Rancid, and Simple Plan.

Once again, I don't listen to/own anything by good charlotte or simple plan, I like rancids older work because of it's resemblance to the early clash.

Oh man, living in Suburban Canada is soooo hard,

No it's not.

so I must fight against the system, rebel and so on.

Hey man, if thats what you want to do more power to you.

Ok guys... can we stop with the personal attacks and name calling.
Houston you are only 6 years older than Forgotten Rebel. At 25 you are far to young to be complaining about teenage angst. Forgotten Rebel don't let yourself get goaded into lowering yourself to the level of personal attacks...

I am sure both of you are adult enough to express yourself with out acting like petulant kids. There is a lot of information to impart by each of you. It is hard to find the important parts of your posts through your personal arguments.

So I ask... Please be the intelligent individuals you have both shown us you can be.

Time to get down from this soap box before some one pushes me off!!!!

the darkside is much better anyways.

As for the proof of the non-existance of God, another reason that the burden of proof rests on the theists is because the proof atheists have relies somewhat on the 'lack of proof' or alternatives to ideas proposed by the religious folk.

For example,
creationism is used by theists to proove God exists.
evolution and science is used by atheists to proove God doesn't exist, as well as provide a logical account of why things are the way they are through scientific observation/research/hypothesis/testing/crtical analysis/ etc.

or...
Morality/love/'good'/ etc. are often used to proove God's existance, the only problem is that atheists, conversely, have found other explanations for these phenomina that don't require the existance of God.

The point of my thread, which you blatently ripped off (no problem), was to show that there was no event/thing that theists could explain through logic that atheists couldn't rubuke with more logic proof. Therefore, the burden of proof is still on the theists, not the athesists.

Atheists have used the existance of evil to prove God doesn't exist. Why should God step in and stop something we started? If he did that, there would be alot of people saying he was too "controling" or whatever.

And besides, have you ever met someone who has never had to work their entire life? They're complete snobs.

God gave us free will. We're exercising it.

How does evolution disprove God?

It doesn't disprove God in the direct sense, but if you look at the myth of creationism, which is used to proove God's existance, an alternative explanation can be offered (i.e., evolution)

So evolution does not directly disprove God, perhaps I wasn't clear enough, but it does disprove the theist (not all, some) explanation for how we came to be.
