Hello! Welcome to the boards. There's a lot of great information and discussion going on all the time, we span the globe!
As for your avatar, you need 25 posts before you can use one. If you contribute, not only do you get to use a bigger one and right off the bat, but you also get access to the arcade function. If you contribute articles that the Admins can use, that'll get you contributor status as well.
If you have other questions, you can poke around on the site and should be able to find what you need. If you can't find it, someone will usually jump in and point you in the right direction.
