Remember this line?
Think how far we have come since this line was spoken in "Gone with The Wind".
No one seems to care that we have taken a wrong turn.
To the older guy and gals, remember the days when ladys were looked on with respect?
Now days they are just looked on.
Can we turn this around and let women be ladys?
I sure hope so, if not we are doomed.

This thread was moved, it has absolutely nothing to do with religion in respect to the first post.

Now, wtf are you going on about and where do you live that "ladies" are only "looked on"? From my own experiences, you must live a pretty sheltered life if you think that. There is nothing wrong with one sex looking at another and appreciating the view. I do it all the time when looking at men. It's natural and it's people with opinions like yours that make looking at others and liking it "bad". Just because we are looking doesn't mean we want to get horizontal with everything that walks by.

I am a woman truck driver and because of my occupation I've been in some of the worst shitholes this country has to offer. There has not been one place, not one, where a door wasn't held open for me, where I wasn't adressed as ma'am and where I wasn't treated with respect. Even at the bars and strip clubs I've been to, I have always been treated with respect.

How does this happen for me?

I don't treat myself like shit. People will treat you in the manner you give them permission to. If you don't open that door, they won't walk in. By treating your own self badly, it's a psychological invite for others to do the same. I don't let them have it.

I could only hope that a guy will look at me and likes what he sees. It gives me that extra opinion that I am doing right by myself. I don't take offense at all. It's people like you that vilifile "lookin".

most 'Ladies' I have met have come from just about every strata of society - same goes for most of the 'Whores' I have met, and many of them were the same person.

Generic labelling begets it's own inaccuracies as a bitter harvest. Lady, Gentleman, Scholar, Sage - it's ALL relative to the POV of those involved in placing labels to begin with.

RESPECT is what matters. How you look upon a person is one thing, but if Respect is part of your equation then How matters less than you Do with Respect.

p.s. is your name a reference to your 'assumed' wisdom or your favourite herb?

Well, what I can say about this subject shouldn't really be that limited.

I look at girls. Always. It can't go a single feckin' day without me looking at a girl. Even when I had a girlfriend (we separated yesterday ~,_~) I looked at other girls. And I'll tell you, it was not as 'ladies'.

Girls are cute. Girls are pretty. Girls have breasts. And girls have hips and bottoms.
And guys like all of those things (except for if they're gay), and it's not going to change.

(Note. I would never look at other girls if the one I love was in the room. Just because I'm a perv doesn't mean I'm stupid :P)

Did you know that when gone with the wind was made, the KKK was burning people on crosses, blacks were segregated to the point of violence.

How good was it really? Do you think racism and violence is wrong? I'd say we are actually progressing...not degressing.

To the older guy and gals, remember the days when ladys were looked on with respect? You do realize that he said "I don't give a damn". That's a whole lot of respect Sage.

Not to mention that Scarlet was such a bitch, she probably deserved to by smacked or whatever...but she wasn't.
That time period was one of the worse...

1. Racism, violence and segregation going on

2. No one would smack someone that needed to be smacked(Scarlet)
(wait, did he smack her?)

3. The time the movie is describing...there's a whole flipin civil war going on!

Sage, that I just how I feel, ladys certainly aren't what they used to be, smartly dressed, well behaved, respectful young women, I care that we have taken a wrong turn, if only people thought now, how they did in the 19th century, women were ladys and men were gentlemen.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where did that get us exactly? Well, behaved eh? Anyways, I can assure you that 19th century women had more than their fair share of injustice.

THEY COULDN'T EVEN BLOODY VOTE! Couldn't even choose their leader in this country, no so whatsoever! And that's gentlemenly to deny freedom of choice? You have very.....special ideas of what a gentleman is don't you Britannia?
Women are more free today than they ever were, there's not much of the heavy gauntlets of Christian culture pushing down on English society, and suppressing women. Of course, as with ALL things, extremes come to be. There is an abuse to freedom. But the progression we've made from the 19th century was more positive than negetive, by far.
It was no wrong turn, but hey, sure, you're entitled to your opinion, even if it is pretty impaired.

But it's a good thing we don't think now like we did in the 19th century. G-d, that would suck for the Africans....

Did you even read my post? I'm expressing my belief that women are better off today than they ever were, not saying that we should they should be treated today like they were in the past.
I would like to request that you refrain from gibberish and nonsensicle phrases and words on the forums please, as it impairs the understanding of others that wish to participate in the debates on these forums. I would also suggest that you READ the posts more thoroughly, because you seem to have missed EVERY word I had writen down. Not one word did I write that even REMOTELY attributes to the belief that females are better off long ago than they are today.
Please, don't be an ignorant fool, that is the only mitzvah I can ask from you now.

I like how you (Sage and Fata, and the others who agree with them) think that women were better off back then.
If you stopped slooking at Aristocracy and the high spheres of society where women were (have always been in some way) influential and well treated and respected (but don't forget, abusing husbands and rape have alsways existed), you could see that women from low socioeconomic status were treated like shit. Stayed at home, cooked, waited for the husband to serve them dinner and wash their clothes. DUH!
No one would have ever held the door for those, and they were the majority. High SES people have always been oppressing, and low SES people have always been pretty dumb (undereducated for so long).
It's like 'oh I want to live in the 17th Century with Louis XIV'...and be an overexploited peasant? think first.
About voting, and legal progress, it has been said already.

I believe this is more apropriet for Chinese culture. There was actually a tradition, where in a boat the male was tied down to the mast, and the female was free to roam the ship, because the male was more valued in Chinese culture. But there's a positive by-product...the females were more free nd independent than the males. An example of female independence in China was durring the cultural revolution. Yes, I know, Chairman Mao was indeed male, but the females held more predominant positions, they were the leaders of the people, to carry out Mao's bidding. The leaders of the Red Gaurd were actually more female than male...because of course...the males were too bussy being protected...
I just thought I'd throw that in there. I just seemed to notice that we leave out eastern culture allot...

It was very appropriate for Western cultures. If it is also the case for Chinese culture, fine.
But I thought this topic was focusing on Western cultures.
However, you're right, we're way too egocentric over here.

Oh and for the record I am seventeen and I am appauled at how women are treated and torn and frayed and all thrown about to the four winds. It is pathetic how high-school boys treat high-school girls and it tears me up inside to see what happens with these kids. I am homeschooled but my friends tell me tales of all this stuff that happens and the disrespect breaks my heart. I can't stand this and it's killing me. But than again, I could be wrong, treating all the ladies I know with respect and honor.. because I've had about as much luck with the ladies.. Well I've had no luck, cheated on, thrown about. You know all that good stuff. But yes.. I do believe and I will continue to treat all ladies with the respect that they DAMN WELL DESERVE!

Since when has humanity EVER been respectful?

But I don't believe the point of this thread is if you should be respectful or not to females. Sage simply started the thread by stating that women were better off long ago, than they were today, which is of course rediculous...

But yes, humans have shown eachother dissrespect since they came into existence. But I think it has always been this way...though I lean more toward the idea that humanity has progressed some...though a percentage of injustice and etc. will always be present to some extent...
