I was just wondering what you guys think was the worlds biggest natural disaster. Heres a link on the mainsite about this subject.

The Asian tsunami was one hell of a disaster, and while it may not have killed as many as some other events on the link, it affected the largest number of countries, the largest area and probably affected the most lives.. in my opinion it was the worst.

It's gotta be an Extinction Level Event like a meteor. Wiped out 97% of species on the planet. Only water based life forms survived, add in some time and genetics, here are the Humans.....
However, maybe Humans could be the biggest ever natural disaster, certainly to the millions that have been killed and a few extinct secies to name but a few.

Probably the supervolcano 10,000 years ago or the meteor that hit the dinosaurs. Worst "recent" one would probably be the tsunami, if you are talking life lost and damage.
The meteor impact that created the moon is definately up there too, but nothing was alive for it :jamn:
EDIT: Just read your link. Very interesting. :2thumbs: Hurricane Katrina really pails in comparison to other tropical cyclones.

Tsunamie of 2004, that was really something, that I could'nt stop watching news on tv. I was a tragic event.
I have to talk about Katrina, it is what it is, the outcome was tragic, pathetic.
And the Humain, could certainly be the worse one. Sorry. but i think that way.
given all what we did to the planet, and to other humans.

What would collapsing energy supplies have to do with natural disasters?

Isn't that more of a fact than an opinion? The worst disaster?

Probably a massive earthquake striking the right place at the right (wrong?) time, or an associated tsunami. But floods in third world countries are big killers too.
And the statistics on that link loganosborne supplied has (at least) one error in the tornado statistics. The deadliest tornado ever killed about 1300 people and occured in Bangledesh, which typically suffers the worst loss of life from storm-inflicted damages.

Well if you want to be exact.. I heard about this Tiger in india who wiped out an entire village of people.. That's a pretty nasty natural disaster, not the worst. But.. you know. I guess that's based on opinion.

well, i would have to agree with shrike, we haven't seen nothing yet, the worst is yet to come, but if I had to put my finger on it, i would say the Tsunami that hit, and hurricane katrina. my opinion of course.

Depends on what we are using to define "worst". Most number of casualties? Dollar estimates on property damage? Strength of magnitude? What?

Global Famine stands high in my list of the worst that could
It might not reap as many souls as the rest.
But it with people going insane everywhere, poor living standards, the residue of the disaster causing it and conflict over the last supplies will surely make people wish they where dead.

Permian extinction event, hands-down. 97% of the world's species disappeared forever.
