The latest version of WMP checks my dvd drives before it closes. I cant help but wonder if its to see if I have anything illegal in there.

A lot of programs do that these days to see if you have one installed and if it's working properly. There's no real way to determine if something you're using is illegal w/o tapping into the product's registration database, which would be an intrusion by Microsoft. I wouldn't worry about it. iTunes does the same for me.

Have you tried using WinAmp instead?

I use the free version, I've not had any problems with it at all and also theres no strange behaviour regarding drives.

I'm with Jayce_K. I've always liked WinAmp better the Windows Media Player. For me, it doesn't take nearly as long to start or close as WMP does.

Think it could be a "For Dummies" function... so you do not leave the disk in the drive when you are done with it?

It could be ANY disc in there or no disc.... when I hit the little x my drives start spinning. Even if whats in them is already in my computers memory.

I think it has something to do with stopping piracy. Some of my games wont play if I have certain software running.

Oh God. I used to call that thing the program from hell. It was on my computer when I got it and everytime I tried to use it, it crashed my system. No idea why. Even my brother, who works with computers for a living couldn't figure it out. I deleted the whole program after a week.

I'm glad it works for you though.
