Is Global Warming Getting Worse Due to Greenhouse Gases?
Global warming is a truly worldwide problem which humankind must solve. According to the Third Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the average world temperature is predicted to rise by 1.4 to 5.8 degrees C by the year 2100. Is this the beginning of a global rise in temperature due to the greenhouse gases which we discharge?
The average temperature on the earth rose by 0.6 degrees C in the past 100 years. There have been extensive debates regarding whether or not this phenomenon was caused by humans¡Ç release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Because the earth's average temperature continually rises and falls, following a natural cycle, it is difficult to differentiate between a temperature rise due to that natural cycle and a temperature rise resulting from human activities.
The latest research indicates, however, that the rapid temperature rise in the last quarter of the 20th century cannot be explained by natural causes alone; on the other side, doubts have been raised about the impact of human activities on this phenomenon.
quick quotes:there is a possibility that large-scale changes in climate may take place.seasonal patterns may undergo drastic changes, patterns of rainfall and snowfall may change, with a subsequent impact on water resources. Seasonal winds and typhoon areas could change as well. Abnormal weather conditions, already frequent and widespread, may increase. Such rapid climate change and abnormal weather will increase the occurrence of natural disasters, and cause great damage to society.Global warming will cause great damage to the ecological system, which took such a long period of time to develop. This damage will be in forms such as the destruction of forests, desertification, and large-scale changes in atmospheric circulation. The collapse of the delicate balance in the ecological system will cause the extinction of many species of living things, among them many species which are beneficial to humankind. This will be a very large loss. Similarly, the natural environment around us will undergo major changes, and we will lose many marshes and wetlands inhabited by diverse flora and fauna.
is this not happening already? have seen reports on species in decline, recent heat waves
