Well its funny I had brought up that "Blacks" topic not to long ago because I was watching 20/20 tonight and they had a short thing on Stereotyping. It was basically about "Where do we get it from?". They pointed out Tv and Movies don't help and had actors and "doctors" and groups talk about it.
They had various things like Italians being portrayed as Mafia, Chinese as "Kung-Fu" people...etc.
The host was arguing the point to this guy (actor) that is stereotyping in movies wrong? The actor said no, there movies, its entertainment.
I totaly agree. When it comes to stereotyping in real life, fine thats one thing because in real life it your picking on actual people. If I walked up uncle and said "You gonna make me swim with the fishies if I rat on you?" then I would be stereotyping. However in a movie WHO THE HELL CARES. We see movies FOR THESE REASONS! The movie Road to Perdition was about Mafia. What would they put in it instead? Italians that did normal every day things? How stupid.
One lady even said Cowboy and Indian movies are the worst kind and are also wrong. Give me a break. ENTERTAINMENT not real life people.
Next weel 20/20 has a whole special on this they said called:
"Race and Sex: What we all think but won't talk about".
I love it! Exactly what I say, people won't talk about race, stereotyping, but if you do then your racist. But I think when it comes to movies its stupid to say its stereotyping.
