After all the debate online I was actually suprised when I didn't see this talked about here.
If for some reason you somehow DON'T know about it. HD-DVD and Blu Ray are the future format of everything. The thing that are goind to make DVD's go the way of CD's. They hold like 20x more, for movies they make thing look AMAZINGLY mind blowingly better (supposedly), for games and data back up people this is great.
Well I beg to differ.
I think its great for computers. More data on a disk. A dvd I backup holds 4.7 gigs, these things can hold up to 60gigs or somethings like that. That means bigger games, better backups...etc.
But for movies theres a big debate. I have now seen 2 movies in this "AMAZING HD and Blu Ray". It wasn't mind blowing.
Skip this part if you want, its about he movies I seen:
First I seen "V for Vendetta" (HD-DVD format) on my 36 inch Widescreen HD tv in 1080i format. I seen some minor diffrences compared to a DVD. little details stuck out more, the picture seemed more "dimensional". That was about it. I smiled and that was it, but then I really didn't see the big deal. At the same I was watching my DVD of the same movie and flipping back and forth. It was obvious the DVD picture seemed more "flat". Still, not worth it.
A few days before this I seen King Kong (HD-DVD) on my friends big ass 6? something inch HD tv in 1080p format, more on that later. There was an obvious diffrence then when I watched mine on my tv. It had alot more realism to it, felt more dimensional, you could literally see every thing on someones face, almost to the point of telling where the over used make up was. HD was good.
End skippable part.
My conclusion? Its useless so far, not counting PCs. They say you won't see any major diffrences unless you ahve a 50inch tv or bigger, in HD and that can use 1080P format! Well I am glad we can all spend tens of thousands on a TV, then go buy a couple hundred dollar HD-DVD or Blu Ray player.
To me if it was so amazing you should be able to enjoy it on ANY tv. Typical american crap of it only works best on the biggest that, and the biggest this. Who the hell needs a 62 inch tv in a 40 foot room? For $12,000 I could have bought a nice work car to get me where I need to go. It seems stupid that you have to buy a tv that costs that much just to enjoy something that looks a little better then a DVD. And to make it worse they throw in that you really need 1080P, and trust me you do. It did seem to make a major diffrence. That only a couple thousand more because its a newer feature.
Keep your HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. I'll stick with my DVDs and miss that 10%-20% enhancement. But at least I have money left.
