  1. Sprouts could double your food preps

About 6 months ago i found this site that shows you everything you need to know to sprout beens and seeds including a bunch of how to videos: http://sproutpeople.org/ I made my own sprouter based on their somewhat expensive easy sprouter. I made it out of 2 stackable plastic cups, One with small drainage holes drilled in the bottom. Also the screw on plastic lid fron an instant coffee container which i drilled holes in. I also made a much larger sprouter using small stackable sterilite contaners. My favorite sprouts are mung beans, garbonzo beans, lentils and black eyed peas. Pinto beans are junk compared to these. Since there is a slight chance of bacterial contamination when making sprouts i allways boil them before eating. I put a bunch in a pan cut up and add a can of soup and more water. boil it, cover the pan and let cool and then eat. You end up with twice as much food for pennies. It is good for you too. And it is dense food in it's dry form. I tried sprouting lentils that i...

  2. What would you be grabbing in the last 24 hours?

SHTF scenario and you have all the stuff you need but you have 24 hours warning so you have a chance to lets say requisition some extra stuff while most people are desperately trying to get food/water ect remember you dont have to pay for it because there is only 24 hours left and after that money will be meaningless so think big what are you going to requisition?

  3. Question New world society... what shhould it look like?

You have been preparing for years, and now it comes. Total economic collapse, some super volcano goes of, ecological collapse, whatever. It happens. The world is a mess for about a few years, billions die due to direct and indirect consequences of the disaster. Entire nations have failed and collapsed, industrial chains have failed and collapsed, etc. But you are one of the few (250 million or so) survivors worldwide. You have prepared for all this and come out of your hiding place finding countless rotting corpses, entire cities in ruins, nothing works anymore (except for the renewable resources you have managed to maintain). Now what? Rebuild society of course, with the few survivors in your area. What should happen then? How should that be worked out? What should society look like? What should humanity use for governance (if any)?

  4. Rioting Nearby: What can you do, legally and otherwise?

I've asked similar questions before but was thinking today about legal ramifications for things. So, if there's a riot that is literally outside your house / apartment / condo. Let's be nice and say it's only 20-30-40 people outside. Legally, can you at this point grab a rifle or shotgun, visibly work its action (though not point it at them, just point it in the air) and tell the mob that they best move along? Would this be considered brandishing? Could you get in legal trouble?

It occurs to me that energy/nutrition bars would be a great food source, esp for short periods (3-5 days), or in a stealth situation. can anyone recommend a good storeable product?

  6. Lightbulb Doomsday Preppers

Well it seems with 12-21-12 coming the networks are definitely going to cash in on the pandmonium. There is a new show out called Doomsday Preppers on National Geographic. Its about families who are preparing for the coming end and how they will survive. Is anyone interested in watching this?

  7. Astarte Survival Guide

PREFACE Astarte is the Goddess of the "Sacred Barren Womb", understanding what heaven/the gods, desire to take from mankind is the essential motif for survival. (I will branch this into a more contemporary perspective, after we go over the history of Astarte's use, with some insight from Armageddon Online's "Disaster Prepardness Guide".) 1. (generally, see #5) Her symbols were the lion, the horse, the sphinx, the dove, and a star within a circle indicating the planet Venus. (venus revolution 225 Days - we'll come back to this) 2. (Phoenicia) Astarte puts the head of a bull on her own head to symbolize Her sovereignty. Wandering through the world, Astarte takes up a star that has fallen from the sky (Taurus Constellation Reference/"star NIBIRU reference) 3. (egypt) Astarte arrived in Ancient Egypt during the 18th dynasty (relative to the exodus)

  8. Letter to_______. Camping At Home

A friend of mine (from one of my jobs) and I have discussed disaster preparedness several times over the last few years. A few weeks ago He asked me to put my version of the basics in writing. I decided to make my response something other than a long list of things to go out and buy. It is kind of toned down in comparison to a lot of the posts on this board and a lot was left out What I wanted to do is cover the most important things but also to place the responsibility for his survival and that of his family on him. If the worst happens, he will be very much alone. So without a lot of introduction here it is: "The following is in regard to the last time we talked about disaster preparedness. I do not consider myself any sort of an expert. I do not think there are very many people who really are. I think most people who are “prepared” have opinions which for the most part are valid and useful, so this is the short version of mine. I am convinced from what I have read and experienced that most...

Not up to par on the site yet but I did a search and these didn't show up so I thought I'd toss em at ya. These are old books written back in the 1800's. Free to download from the site. I came across them the other day and they were interesting. Here's the site to read at or download them from if anyone is interested. http://www.pioneerhandbooks.com/

  10. Scenario: 10 Miles from a 5-10kt Nuclear Blast; Urban getaway and survival.

Scenario: This forum has gone a bit dead. Let me stir it up a touch. I am a worker in an urban area--rough neighborhood--10 miles away from a major U.S. City. My home is 35 miles away. Let's say there is a terrorist-type nuclear attack with a small but effective nuke (5-10kt). Within moments at this distance, we see the blast and can thus act almost immediately. My question: How to survive? My initial thoughts: I'm not worried about direct harm from the blast, as 10 miles is too far away from this size of a nuke.

  11. Bannock Bread

Bannock Bread. I'm not sure if I did a thread or just a post about this. But here I go again. I made this once before and it was....OK. So I tried to make it again. Not so great this time. Just didn't cook right. First try I used 1 cup flour, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 3 tablespoons powered milk, 1 teaspoon baking powered. I did the whole pan cooking. Kind of like a big Bisquick. Like I said it cooked OK . This time around I tried 3 cups flour, 1 teaspoon salt, 2 tablespoons baking powder, 1/4 cup butter ( I used oil ) 1 1/2 cups water. I didn't do the whole pan thing. As you can see this time I made much more than last time. It just didn't cook right even with making small...Bisquick's ?

  12. Water storage BAD? Horrible realization for survivalists.. :(

We're all survivalists here. We have supplies waiting to be used when SHTF, or any disaster scenario in general. Well, I just found out that bottled water, whether glass or plastic, is BAD. This runs afoul with my plan to store water for survival. Here's some research I've compiled: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-379624/The-poison-lurking-plastic-water-bottle.html Concludes that although both glass and plastic (PET) are subject to chemical leaching, plastic tends to release more antimony (Sb) into water than glass does.

  13. Alternative energy

I am in the process of building a solar powered shed, and wanted to know if anyone else has ever messed with solar panels. I have decided to go with 40 Watt panels, as they are less expensive than the bigger ones, yet not much more than the 15 watt panels usually found on sale locally. So far I have the one 40 watt panel, a 75amp 12v battery, and a small inverter that is around 150 watts. The inverter will be upgraded when I have more panels, and I plan on getting another 3 of the 40 watt panels in the next month or so. I plan on using this to power 2 floodlights in my backyard, charge my cordless power tools, and perhaps run a water pump in the future. Any suggestions would be appreciated. So far, the battery has cost $110, the 40 Watt panel was $113 shipped, and the inverter was already owned to power a playstation 2 for the kids for road trips. To get a real inverter, I am guessing I will need to crank out another $100. I think I will be able to get another 3 panels for around $300 shipped, and...

  14. Survivalists - How far along are you?

This is a followup thread for the one deleted in the server move. I have been building up my supplies for several years and can honestly say that I am still a bit from the finish line. I have been able to get the essentials down, but feel that while I could survive for an indefinite period after a total collapse, my family would not. This has been a driving factor in my continued pursuit of more gear and essentials. I will give a generalized rundown of some of my items all should have, the ones I have added for my family, and the ones I still need to acquire. All households should have the basics. I will list them for people, and feel free to add to this, since I will probably leave something out. Flashlights (C or D Cell and AA or AAA Cell) - having at least a crappy one in all sizes is good for a TEOTWAWKI situations, but get a few in the same battery size for consistancy. 15. How Far From a Nuclear Power Plant is "Safe"

Question: is where I am in Illinois (37-40 miles away from 1 Nuke Plant, 45 miles away from another Nuke Plant) "safe" ? I'm talking given an EMP-power-outage-backup-power-to-Nuke-Reactor-outage situation, how much danger am I in? I realize I'm not in an ideal spot. But is it doable?

  16. Water

Storing Water. Take empty container, rinse, fill with water. I knew I forgot something. Sanitize then fill with water. You can sanitize with bleach. Sounds so simple. Then I found this web site. http://zenbackpacking.net/WaterFilterPurifierTreatment.htm#Chlorine Lots of reading in here. Bleach is good and bad. Iodine is good and bad. Water filters not so good. Water purifiers better. Water purifiers and filters together better. But not perfect.

  17. Doctor to write prescriptions for PAW meds? (Northern VA)

Hello, all! Been awhile... So my fiance is afraid that she's allergic to wasps, bees, and penicillin due to some childhood experiences. While I've purchased a good number of antibiotics for my man-cave, one thing I don't have is epinephrine. Apparently meth-heads have been using it to make meth, so now it's impossible to get without a prescription. The dosage for epi to prevent anaphylaxis is only 0.3 mg (or 0.3 ml of epinephrine 1:1000). This means a small set of vials would have us safely stored up. (It can last well past its expiration date, until it starts to discolor. I've seen it - when doing the combat medic thing myself - last over 5 years.) Now why do this instead of the epi pens, you may ask? The answer: A single 1ml vial can be purchased for as little as $2 if you buy it in a pack of 25. (To be fair, it'll probably only be good for one usage, unless you have another event fairly soon afterwards (it oxidizes). A single epi pen runs about $100. Plus, with an epi pen, the epi is...

  20. Help Evaluating Preps & Where to Go Now

Hello, I've been prepping for about a half of a year, and feel very good about what I've been able to put together in that time. Food, water, medicine, defense, etc. are stocked up to a level where I feel pretty comfortable. But here's the catch now. I've got a bunch of everything, I keep organizing it and putting it away properly. I inventory things with expiration dates and all that. At this point, what do I do? How do you all evaluate where you need to keep going? Should I stock up on more ammo, more medicine, more food? It used to be easy. "Crap I don't have vegetables, I need to go buy them." Now I've got at least a decent amount of all the above. Besides basic inventorying, how do you keep track of "next steps" ? How to evaluate readiness and where to go now?
