  1. Poll Sticky Thread Sticky: Poll: Abortion

I'm just wondering how everybody feels about abortion. Me, I think abortion is wrong. I watched an ultrasound of an abortion, and it was just terrible. It seemed like the baby was trying to get away and the baby's heartrate doubled. I'm not going to stone somebody for getting an abortion because I realise that it's a hard decision to make. I just don't think its the right decision to make. But hey, I'm not the one who's pregnant I guess. Although, I think the father should have some sort of say in it. The child is a part of him too.

  1. The Sexualization of Black Women (and Men)

But this thread just deals with women... Edit: I forgot linky;)-http://www.thenewblackmagazine.com/view.aspx?index=176 Of course the next part of the article gets into the "under-representation" of Blacks in America(To which I consider largely a matter of opinion and perspective atm but it is one that definitely needs more (Adult) debate.) This is my point of contention>>>

  6. the progress of mankind is

the progress of mankind is not progress of any human individual cause the mankind are only all the humans never the single human. the single human in fact truly owns nothing. on the contrary the human individual is only the subject of ownership... the most precious thing to be owned. lets face it that's our reality.

  8. Europe's blind spot

In the aftermath of the shooting spree last week in France, the debate has raised the old issue of Europe's anti-Semitism, something that refuses to die in its ancient hatred for the Jew. (Frida Ghitis is a world affairs columnist for The Miami Herald and World Politics Review.) Full story. http://edition.cnn.com/2012/03/22/opinion/ghitis-toulouse-palestinian/index.html?hpt=ieu_t3 "I believe an honest examination will reveal a blind spot among those fighting prejudice that has allowed the ancient Jew hatred that infected Europe for centuries to survive. The blind spot is this: When the prejudice -- and even the call for murder -- is made in connection with the Palestinian cause, people look the other way and give it a pass." This point above all should be addressed in any honest debate regarding the current attitude within Europe's political circles with both the left and right, as its used by apologists on both sides as " a reason or justification"

  9. At the door

I guess this last year has been something of a wakeup call for any thinking individual, it doesn't take a Doctorate in political science to understand what has taken place in this country, and the manipulations by fear to turn an otherwise free thinking nation into an armed camp. Hardly a person on this site doesn't have in one sense or another the gut feeling of something coming, and if you've ever been to a slaughter house and watched how the animals are herded towards a single corridor and blindly follow each other out of fear, then you understand whats taken place. Outside of survival, one of the stronger instincts is to be independent, no one wants to blindly follow the crowd, in fact everything we do with our life style is based on some effort to stand out from the rest, to be different. But fear changes all this when it comes to being independent, we suddenly drop our smug attempts to stand out, and quietly get in line for the slaughter, and hardly say moo in the process.( albeit AO members...

  10. A Pacifist's Policy...

I've noticed this a lot at my school and I thought it would make an interesting topic. Note that this isn't particular to my school but most schools around Australia. In every school there is likely to be at least one bully. Therefore schools tend to develop policies when it comes to these bullies. This universal policy pretty much says: "If you are physically bullied, don't defend yourself with violence, go and cry your eyes out to some teacher..." Does anyone else see a problem with this? First of all, lack of violence does not deter violence. You cannot expect to stop someone intent on physically harming you without physically defending yourself. If you don't fight back, it just makes things better for the bully as they have an easier task. Whilst complaining to a teacher may deter the bully due to fear of punishment, it doesn't really solve the problem. The bully will either eventually come back or pick a new target. Either method doesn't really work. This whole idea of not fighting back...

I wanted to post these pictures after watching a show about bunkers being built under the DIA. The show was mostly about the bunkers, but I found the painting in the airport way more fascinating. There are lots of hidden messages in the paintings.

  12. Industrial Society Destroys Mind and Environment

The link between Mind and Social / Environmental-Issues. The fast-paced, consumerist lifestyle of Industrial Society is causing exponential rise in psychological problems besides destroying the environment. All issues are interlinked. Our Minds cannot be peaceful when attention-spans are down to nanoseconds, microseconds and milliseconds. Our Minds cannot be peaceful if we destroy Nature. Industrial Society Destroys Mind and Environment. Subject : In a fast society slow emotions become extinct. Subject : A thinking mind cannot feel. Subject : Scientific/ Industrial/ Financial thinking destroys the planet. Subject : Environment can never be saved as long as cities exist.

  13. White Supremacy Monthly Celebration ~ the 15th

Notice to White Supremacists ~ the 15th of every month is now recognized by your tribe as a special White Supremacy Day. White Supremacists have expressed a deep interest in promoting their bigotry on this day, by encouraging their fellow haters to expressly wear white clothing, and to do whatever possible to sabotage the life efforts of all minorities, non-whites, and non-white supremacists. I hope that all people, of non-white-supremacy ilk, will be become aware of this day, its significance every month, and realize what is happening when you see white supremacists spreading their hate, and actively working to sabotage your lives.

  14. Being Gay and/or Bi

I would really love to have a female on female relationship one day. It would be very interesting, I think, to have that sort of sexual connection, and that kind of love, in such a yin way. I'm so very geared toward the love of penis, masculine sex and intimate male companionship. It would be something quite quite different I would think!! Cerebrally speaking. Though I've never personally experienced female intimacy....I never could. I just have no idea how. Thinking of it doesn't turn me on. My sexual inclinations have a very difficult time in gathering momentum in that direction. Drugs (over and under the counter, legal and illegal included) and alcohol will not help.....I do not, will not, do not wish to ever, use them. For any purpose. (Only monthly motrin is a necessity....but I will soon find an herb to replace that.)

  16. Is it cool to raise your child as gender-neutral?

I was left a little speechless at this. It's good, I think, to let boys play with dolls and let girls be tomboys, but I can't imagine denying your child the experience of identifying with his or her gender.

  17. Could a robot be conscious?

If a robot is produced that behaves just like one of us in all respects, including thought, is it conscious or just a clever machine, asks Prof Barry C Smith, director of the Institute of Philosophy. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-14886421 Personally I would have to say 'why not?' After all it is electricity that gives human beings their ability to think and feel via the brain the same as a robot would require electricity

  18. What would happen if tommorrow if

The entire world woke up and had no memory of national or personal debts, fiscal budgets, deficits etc. and there were no records of such debt. What would we recreate. How many years before civilization found itself once again, after the memory of debt was erased, back to its current state of affairs. Its all really paper anyway. Money is conceptual and often an illusion. What if there were another exchange and what might that be?

  19. The Value of Truth

The title to the thread offers a useful question and I have posted it on the philosophy thread rightly in its place. For me the question/proposition of the value of truth is wide ranging and unique I suppose to what truths it is that you seek, whether personal or in a professional capacity. I wonder though, if through this question a whole range of other problems can be resolved from both science and religion. The belief in higher being has been dominant pre-Christ, infact pritty much a primeordal affair, by the same token science, a younger system of explaining the world and our experiences has given a new direction, some say 'truth seeking'. But really is there any value in truth to be had given the limitations we still face and may continue to face into the future?

  20. Apocalypse now

I guess a case study on the doomsday crowd would present something of a modern day phenomena, but history shows this mind set to have prevailed through millennium, driven by cults and religions since day one. And it seems with each new generation we get a new batch to occupy the fantasies of an otherwise mediocre existence. Now days we have detailed scripts of how we are to be boiled, deep fried, and radiated at our finger tips, and those late night trips through Doom and gloom web sites ends up pooling like minds, similar to our own AO gatherings. Perhaps we are unique in as much that most of us didn't arrive here as refugees from some cult, but more so out of curiosity, and that strange need to read about "Da End" and we do after all, take some enjoyment in verbally thrashing the latest prophets of roast and toast, but meanwhile quietly stockpiling large amounts of ammo "just in case" your own personal fears come to pass. One could wonder if this collective imagination would bring on an...
