The addition of the Blogs has not worked out the way we thought – many of the features are buggy or broken. More important, AO needs writers for the site's various articles, we don't need bloggers. The Blogs are disabled until further notice. Nothing has been deleted, so every account, post, and comment is still saved in our database, we've just disabled access to the feature. (If you are a blog owner and would like to retrieve some or all posts you entered, please send me a PM and we will arrange a way to do so. Moderators cannot do this for you, so you will need to come to me if you want to retrieve posted information.)

The store is back online. Trusty, reliable, Amazon :) I hand picked a lot of book, movies, and items I've seen, watched, read, or reviewed. It's a lot more expansive than the previous version. More specifically, if you look on the right hand menu : There is a Books link and a Movies link. Based on this thread, and some of the suggestions that came from members, we have decided to expand the forums to include a new topical category: Arts & Entertainment. The initial idea was to simply create a few extra sub-forums and reorganize the Entertainment forum, but that proved an enormous task. During the process I felt it best to instead create an entirely new category with new forums. So instead of the Entertainment forum having half a dozen sub-forums, it is now its own category with major forums. By doing it this way we have room to expand in the future in the case that members want more forums or sub-forums under the entertainment topic. Less crowding. This was a difficult decision to make, but I hope the most of you are happy that we took this new approach and expanded the forums. The change may take some time getting used to, especially for those habitual posters who have become accustom to the general layout of the forums, but I personally feel it was the best route to take. ...

The idea behind the Pitch an Idea forum was simply to...well, provide ideas for us to expand the forums. The forum, however, was redundant considering that most ideas are placed as suggestions in the Suggestions & Feedback forum. Therefore I have merged that forum with the more popular one. No threads or posts were deleted in this process. I merely moved all threads and posts to the more popular Suggestions & Feedback forum. Yay for simplicity!

I have updated the feature to post YouTube videos so that it is much simpler. This should not effect older videos as long as they were posted correctly in the first place. From this point on you will not need to post any BB code with just the video ID. Just copy and paste the entire link and once you submit your thread/post the forums will automatically embed the video. Simple! EXAMPLE: I copied directly from YouTube the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ArkDWrHmmXI and pasted it into this post. The result is below.

After extensive dialogs with MetalMilitia over the course of many months, I have returned to AO as a forum administrator. As a forum administrator I will reprise some of the responsibilities I had in the past, but for the most part I will act as a glorified janitor and tech support feller for members. I know some of you from back when think I was a Nazi, but the reality is far from that. I actually did very little moderating at the time and mostly focused on forum structure and mechanics. I acted as an architect. That being said, for those of you thinking I'm a digital Hitler, I have two things to say: (1) Even if the history you think occurred is true, it has been more than half a decade since then. I have changed tremendously, my goals have changed, my outlook has changed. In essence, if I actually was that monster less than 10 of you believe I was, I'm certainly not that person now. (2) Part of my return disavows acting as a moderator. As an administrator I will simply support the current moderators...

Time to get back to retro :) I have relaunched the arcade full of flash based mini games, and silliness. Forums may open and close in the few hours. I am trying to get a viable and stable live form of chat working this evening. Gonna work on it starting at 9pm central and should be done by 1am. Make sure you copy / save your posts in notepad or something in case I close the boards down in the middle of your post - that way when they re-open you can simply copy and paste the post back where you want it. Our hosting company, after about 5-6 years, is going out of business and I am taking the opportunity to upgrade and move Armageddon Online to a new web host. There will likely be downtime in somewhat large quantities over the next week or two. There is a lot of information to back up, and a lot of web material to transfer. http://www.monochrome.net/ The forums of course will be the hardest part. With thousands of threads I am going to do my best to ensure that member accounts, posts and threads will not be lost. However effective as of today forwards, posts on the boards MAY NOT BE KEPT once the transfer has gone through. So if you see downtime and posts missing this is the warning point. -MM- (more to come)

Edit : This thread will inform you of times when I make AO go "PLEASE STOP KILLING ME". If this thread is read and AO is still up, drink a beer and celebrate. I just reformatted my PC and am gonna start backing everything up and downloading most of the backups. If the server chugs a little bit it's likely under a little strain from all the activity. Additionally Thursday (10/25/07) it may be down for an hour or so in the morning.... whenever I crawl my sorry ass out of bed. Apologies for the inconvenience ;) -MM

Now open for the public :) What I've basically done is create our own personal youtube area. You can embed youtube in any category you would like and the videos will be kept + categorized here on the boards. We can create our own archive ;) Make sure there are no un-needed spaces in the titles, links or comments section or your videos will be deleted. I installed a component on the main site that basically rewrites /content/view/item to category/name-of-article/article.html so basically instead of having our url's be (this is not a wroking url, just an example): www.armageddononline.org/content/category/section/10/30/ if would look more like: www.armageddononline.org/index.php/Natural-Disasters/yellowstone-super-volcano-caldera-rising.html

All you need is a browser capable of handling flash. If you're unsure if yours supports it, install the latest version of FIREFOX or Internet EXPLORER. You gotta be registered to get in, so if you're reading this without an account and want to join the discussion you will need to register. It's sorta still in "beta" mode, but from what I've seen just toying with it, it looks like a lotta fun. Enjoy.
