Re: religion
So you practice a "personal" belief? Without dogma's or man-made rules?
|
beliefs
I don't practice what I believe. Like I've said before, I do things that I know are harmful to my body. These are things I need to work on before I can claim that I practice my beliefs.
I believe what is taught in the Scriptures, so I guess that would mean my beliefs fall in line with what Christians are supposed to believe. I don't believe the Scritpures were created by man. I believe they were inspired by God. |

God
Okay. I guess I can put it this way: God is creative and conscious energy.
Peace, Paul |
Re: God
Actually i think the best way to put it, that is if there is a god. Is that it would be energy because it is the one thing in this universe that is present everywhere.

Created as in conceptualized? Or you don't believe the scriptures were <em>written</em> by man? If man didn't write them and god inspired them...who wrote them? |

But WHY??? Why not in clear simple language??? For all - and I mean ALL - to understand as being the truth?? Why the cloaking devices??? Why short hand???

Simple
>But WHY??? Why not in clear simple language??? For >all - and I mean ALL - to understand as being the >truth?? Why the cloaking devices??? Why short >hand???
There is no single and clear language, that's why. There are no cloaking devices. It's simple if you read it as it's meant to be read. Short hand was just an analogy. |
Re: Simple
<blockquote><strong><em>Quote:</em></strong><hr>It's simple if you read it as it's meant to be read.
But that is not true, and you know it. It took you years of study - you said it yourself - which means that scriptures weren't meant to be understood by the masses. Is god not a god of the simple man then? This all means that IMHO scriptures are meant to make an INSTITUTE out of religion, complete with an intellectual hierachy to keep the masses under the thumb. Even you Paul, prove this by writing lengthy posts that do not bring a clear statement across. You put yourself in the position of a religious wise man that has superior knowledge, while you just WON'T give a simple direct answer to questions. God is a master of special effects, but he does a poor job in the communications department.... |
Re: Simple
I have to agree with dutchie here.
Even from my small experience with christian scriptures I would say that many of them are not clear at all. |
Scriptures
>It took you years of study - you said it yourself - >which means that scriptures weren't meant to be >understood by the masses. Is god not a god of the >simple man then?
I was just in the right place at the right time. The Scriptures WERE meant to be understood by the masses. >This all means that IMHO scriptures are meant to make >an INSTITUTE out of religion, complete with an >intellectual hierachy to keep the masses under the >thumb. Even you Paul, prove this by writing lengthy >posts that do not bring a clear statement across. You >put yourself in the position of a religious wise man that >has superior knowledge, while you just WON'T give a >simple direct answer to questions. Religion is a set of beliefs. Most often it is related to spiritual beliefs. However, one can have a religion in other areas as well. Evolution is a religion of sorts. Some people base their lives on this set of beliefs. My posts are meant to provide references. If you looked into those references and did some work yourself you would understand why I write the lengthy posts. I don't want to write: "It's this way because I say it is." I'd much rather provide backing to my words. I'm far from wise and far from superior. My answers are simple to me. To those who don't have the Scriptural knowledge they might not be. That's why I provide references. To make it simple. I could provide you with a direct simple answer, however, at that point my words would be seen as "opinion" and not "fact." They may be seen as "opinion" anyway to those who don't look into the references. For those who actually dig deep, the universal truth is plain to be seen. >God is a master of special effects, but he does a poor >job in the communications department.... God is a superior being, way beyond our understanding. Like we are superior to the animals, God is superior to us. You can't actually expect an animal to understand humans, so how can you expect humans to understand God beyond knowing he exists and what his intenetions are? The Bible is not some secret code that needs deciphering. The message throughout it is very clear for those who read it in its entirety from front to back more than once. Peace, Paul |

That is plain arrogance. I would value you "direct simple answer" much much higher, not because I AM SIMPLE, but because of the fact that it is MUCH HARDER to come up with. And wether you add scriptural reference or not, to me it STAYS opinion, because the universal truth is a FICTIONAL CONCEPT. <blockquote><strong><em>Quote:</em></strong><hr>God is a superior being, way beyond our understanding. Universal truth

I didn't write the Bible, Dutchie, so I'm not sure how I'm being arrogant. There is simplicity in the world, but in order to understand simplicity, one must understand complexity. They go hand in hand. Once the complex is understood, it then becomes simple. Just my twisted opinion. There is universal truth, but until you learn that there is, it will remain opinion and a fictional concept to you. Universal truth is much like simplicity. There are natural laws which exist. Those we cannot deny. That is simple, yet complex. That is universal truth. There is also a source of those natural laws, therefore a source to universal truth, both simple and complex. >I thought were were created to his image. IMHO it >would be more logical to discover God is a man/woman >like us but spirit in stead of flesh and bone You thought correctly. We were made in his image in that we have attributes as he does, such as love, wisdom, justice, power, morality, a conscience, something that no other life on the planet possesses (morality and conscience). We do not have to be spirit in order to possess qualities like God. Peace, Paul |
Re: Scriptures
<blockquote><strong><em>Quote:</em></strong><hr>Evolution is a religion of sorts. Some people base their lives on this set of beliefs.
Nope. Religion is an organization founded on spiritual beliefs which include worship. Evolution is a scientific theory that does not fall under this catagory. Next you'll say physics is a religion. <blockquote><strong><em>Quote:</em></strong><hr>Like we are superior to the animals, God is superior to us.
This is what I love about Joe Religious Man - absolute arrogance. This is why religion is failing in the western masses. There is no logical or rational concept anymore. Faith was strong through the ages because men were ignorant and had no reason to challenge the existence of a deity. In your opinion, what makes us superior to animals? And are animals all going to hell? They have no concept of god or man-made religion. |
religion
>Nope. Religion is an organization founded on spiritual >beliefs which include worship. Evolution is a scientific >theory that does not fall under this catagory. Next >you'll say physics is a religion.
Religion is a form of worship. Some worship science. Some worship God. Some worship their wives, or themselves, or the Devil, or Allah, or airplanes, or motorcycles, blah blah blah. The possibilities are endless. Religion is NOT an organization. An organization is an organization. Religion CAN be advocated by an organization but it can also be a personal form of worship. Religion usually involves belief in God or gods, but not necessarily. Science can be religion if it is worshipped. And you're correct, evolution IS a theory. Some people blend evolution with belief in God. Can you say that is not a religion? No, you can't. The thing is, the theory of evolution is NOT a Bible teaching, so if someone calls themselves a Christian and believes in evolution, they are only allowing themselves to be fooled/misled or are fooling themselves. ANYTHING that someone eats, drinks, sleeps, s*its, p*sses, etc. is basically worshipped by them. THAT is religion. Some worship the US government. There are unlimited things that can be worshipped. Your idea of what religion is and what religion is not is not on target. >This is what I love about Joe Religious Man - absolute >arrogance. This is why religion is failing in the western >masses. There is no logical or rational concept >anymore. Faith was strong through the ages because >men were ignorant and had no reason to challenge the >existence of a deity. Lol! You don't know what you're saying! You are saying that by me saying that there is life superior to humans out there in the universe that I am arrogant. What I'm saying should lead you to believe the opposite. You simply have a chip on your shoulder because I believe in God and you don't. Chances are, you haven't spoken with someone like myself before, or if you have, you didn't bother listening because you were too caught up in your worship of theory of evolution. The majority of religions will fail. This is true. That is because they are not based on true faith, evidence. There is ration and logic in religion. However, one cannot force a horse to drink. Again, faith is based on EVIDENCE, not ignorance. There is nothing wrong with asking questions about God. That is the only way to learn about him. Peace, Paul In your opinion, what makes us superior to animals? And are animals all going to hell? They have no concept of god or man-made religion. |
Religion
>In your opinion, what makes us superior to animals? >And are animals all going to hell? They have no concept >of god or man-made religion.
Come on, what kind of question is that?? That's an answer I don't need to provide to you. It's self-explanatory. Everyone that dies goes to hell. peace, Paul |
Church decline
Ref: Laszerus' comment.
I can only speak for what I see. In my church last sunday it was fuller than I've ever seen it. It's progressively been increasing over the last year in particular. But its not just in numbers, people are beginning to truly seek God and are finding him too. Its great to see. I respect railway line purpose and belief. But unfortunately for you Laszerus you are on the wrong line. Don't allow Jesus to become your stumbling block. You are an intelligent person, but this may be your undoing. I pray that it won't come to that - I would like to see you in eternity with me. To Paul: Do you think that using bad language is honourable to your master? Do you think that becoming a little frustrated at those who don't click on to your point of view is right? Surely, you were like this once. Be patient with these people. They are precious to God. |
Sinful

No I don't Steven. I think that becoming frustrated is natural on occasion. Doesn't make it right though. You're right, at any rate. I've been through a lot in the last decade. My lack of patience that you're seeing here is nothing compared to what it used to be. And I also feel that my sitting for hours and typing out information for anyone who wants to read it and answering questions the best I can shows quite a bit of patience on my part. However, it doesn't excuse my impatience at other times. Or my bad language. My apologies. Like you and everyone on this board, I'm not perfect. That's not an excuse either, simply a fact. Peace, Paul |
Re: religion
Guess what, Paul? Religion: A personal or institutionalized system grounded in such belief and worship. Religion is an institution, faith is not.
<blockquote><strong><em>Quote:</em></strong><hr>Science can be religion if it is worshipped.
You show me temples erected to worship science and I'll agree with you. <blockquote><strong><em>Quote:</em></strong><hr>The thing is, the theory of evolution is NOT a Bible teaching, so if someone calls themselves a Christian and believes in evolution, they are only allowing themselves to be fooled/misled or are fooling themselves.
You love getting on evolution. What about quantum electrodynamics? Modern medicine? None of these are teachings of the bible, yet you can not refute them. Instead of taking medication next time you're sick, or going to the emergency room when you break a bone try praying. See if that helps. I mean, hey! You're advocating teachings that are not in the bible! Sound irrational, doesn't it? ;) <blockquote><strong><em>Quote:</em></strong><hr>You simply have a chip on your shoulder because I believe in God and you don't.
Are you sure about this? I don't care if you think that at all, but personal attacks aren't going to prove your point anymore. This just makes you a hateful bigot. <blockquote><strong><em>Quote:</em></strong><hr>Come on, what kind of question is that?? That's an answer I don't need to provide to you. Religion
>Guess what, Paul? Religion: A personal or >institutionalized system grounded in such belief and >worship. Religion is an institution, faith is not.
Lol! You failed to note the or in "personal OR institutionalized" Religion is a form of worship. >You show me temples erected to worship science and >I'll agree with you. A temple is merely a building in which to conduct gatherings for the purpose of worship. There are plenty of buildings designed to conduct scientific research. Many spend all of their waking time doing so, in effect, worshipping science. >It sounds to me like YOU'RE the one with the chimp on >your shoulder. You're advocating >teachings that are not in the bible! I have no chip. I'm not attacking science. I'm stating my disagreement with the theory of evolution. You sure like to twist words don't you? The Bible teaches plenty of science. Genesis chapter 1 verse 1: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." Robert Jastrow (astronomer) wrote: "Now we see how the astronomical evidence leads to a biblical view of the origin of the world. The details differ, but the essential elements in the astronomical and biblical accounts of Genesis are the same: the chain of events leading to man commenced suddenly and sharply at a definite moment in time, in a flash of light and energy." From God and the Astronomers (New York, 197:cool: , p. 14. Scientists do theorize that the material universe did indeed have a beginning. It hasn't been around forever. Many scientists do not accept that God created the universe and earth. However, the evidence of intelligence behind it all is very difficult to ignore. Freeman Dyson (physics professor) commented: "The more I examine the universe and study the details of its architecture, the more evidence I find that the universe in some sense must have known that we were coming. Being a scientist, trained in the habits of thought and language of the twentieth century rather than the eighteenth, I do not claim that the architecture of the universe proves the existence of God. I claim only that the architecture of the universe is consistent with the hypothesis that mind plays an essential role in its functioning." This skepticism is not uncommon in our time. There is, however, noteable harmony between modern science and the first verse of the first book of the Bible. Isaiah chapter 40 verse 22: "There is One who is dwelling above the circle of the earth, the dwellers in which are as grasshoppers, the One who is stretching out the heavens just as a fine gauze, who spreads them out like a tent in which to dwell," In ancient times the general opinion was that the earth was flat. It was not until over 200 years after this Bible text had been written that a school of Greek philosophers reasoned that the earth likely was spherical, and in about another 300 years a Greek astronomer calculated the approximate radius of the earth. But the idea of a spherical earth was not the general view even then. Only in the 20th century has it been possible for humans to travel by airplane, and later into outer space and even to the moon, thus giving them a clear view of "the circle" of earth's horizon. Leviticus chapter 11 verse 6: "Also the hare, because it is a chewer of the cud but it does not have the hoof split. It is unclean for you." Thought this was long attacked by some critics, the rabbit's cud chewing was finally observed by Englishman William Cooper in the 18th century. The unusual way in which it was done was described in 1940 in Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London, Vol. 110, Series A, pp. 159-163. One of the writers of the Bible was a physician, Luke I believe it was. Job chapter 26 verse 7: "He is stretching out the north over the empty place, Hanging the earth upon nothing;" In combination with the "circle of the earth" these Scriptures convey a picture of a round earth hanging on nothing, similar to pictures taken from space. Ecclesiastes chapter 1 verse 7: "All the winter torrents are going forth to the sea, yet the sea itself is not full. To the place where the winter torrents are going forth, there they are returning so as to go forth." The New English Bible puts it this way: "All streams run into the sea, yet the sea never overflows; back to the place from which the streams ran they return to run again." This describes the amazing water cycle of the earth. As we know water evaporates from the surface of oceans into the atmosphere. Air currents carry this moist air inland. When the air cools the vapor condenses and creates clouds then rain or snow. It falls to the earth's surface and returns in streams or soaks into the ground and goes back to the sea. Psalm chapter 104 verse 6: "With a watery deep just like a garment you covered it. The waters were standing above the very mountains." verse 8: "Mountains proceeded to ascend, Valley plains proceeded to descend-------To the place that you have founded for them." We know that from Pre-Cambrian times down til now the ongoing process of building and destroying mountains has continued. Mountains have originated from the bottom of vanished seas and have often been submerged long after their formation, and then reelevated. Leviticus chapter 13 verse 46: "All the days that the plague is in him he will be unclean. He is unclean. He should dwell isolated. Outside the camp is his dwelling place." If an Israelite were suspected of having leprosy due to a skin blemish, he was put in isolation. Leviticus chapter 13 verse 52: "And he must burn the garment or the warp or the woof in the wool or in the linen, or any article of skin in which the plague may develop, because it is malignant leprosy. It should be burned in the fire." They even burned the infected garments. This was an effective way to prevent spread of the infection. This falls into the area of health and sanitation. So does this: Deuteronomy chapter 23 verses 12 and 13: "And a private place should be at your service outside the camp, and you must go out there. And a peg should be at your service along with your implements, and it must occur that when you squat outsid, you must also dig a hole with it and turn and cover your excrement." This was a law. Surely, this saved Israel from many sicknesses. Even today, severe health problems are caused in some lands by improper disposal of human wastes. If the people of today were to follow the law that was written thousands of years ago in the Bible they would be much healthier. Proverbs chapter 14 verse 30: "A calm heart is the life of the fleshly organism, but jealousy is rottenness to the bones." Not hygeine, but good mental health! Medical research has demonstrated that our physical health is affected by our mental attitude. Dr. C. B. Thomas of Johns Hopkins University studied a thousand graduates over 16 years time matching their psychological characteristics with their vulnerability to diseases. The graduates most vulnerable to disease were those who were angrier and more anxious, under stress. Ecclesiastes chapter 1 verse 5: "And the sun also has flashed forth, and the sun has set, and it is coming panting to its place where it is going to flash forth." The Jerusalem Bible reads: "The sun rises, the sun sets; then to its place it speeds and there it rises." The Catholic Church argued that this statement meant that the sun revolved around the earth, not the other way around. They said that Galileo's teaching was unscriptural. This is ridiculous since even today we say that the sun rises and the sun sets, yet we KNOW that the earth revolves around the sun. This type of statement is describing the APPARENT motion of the sun as it appears to the human observer. Just as the Bible writer did. I'm pretty sure there isn't a one of us that hasn't used the phrase "sunrise" or "sunset." Psalm chapter 104 verse 5: "He has founded the earth upon its established places; It will not be made to totter to time indefinite, or forever." The Jerusalem Bible reads: "You fixed the earth on its foundations, unshakeable forever and ever." This was also misinterpreted as if the earth could not move. However, this verse is stressing the permanence of the earth, not its immobility. It will never be "shaken" out of existence, or destroyed, as other Bible verses confirm. Psalm 37 verse 29: "The righteous themselves will possess the earth, And they will reside forever upon it." Ecclesiastes chapter 1 verse 4: "A generation is going, and a generation is coming, but the earth is standing even to time indefinite." These Scriptures have nothing to do with the relative motion of the earth and the sun, either. In Galileo's time, it was the Church, not the Bible, that hindered free scientific discussion. Genesis chapter 1 verse 21: "And God proceeded to create the great sea monsters and every living soul that moves about, which the waters swarmed forth according to their kinds, and every winged flying creature according to its kind. And God got to see that it was good." Genesis chapter 2 verse 7: "And God proceeded to form the man out of dust from the ground and to blow into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man came to be a living soul." The Bible and evolution do not agree. The Bible teaches that each major group of living things was specially created and reproduces only according to its kind. Man was created out of dust from the ground. It's important to distinguish between what science KNOWS and what science THEORIZES. Charles Darwin popularized the theory of evolution during his time. When he was on the Galapogos Islands in the Pacific, Darwin was strongly impressed by the different species of finches on the different islands, which, he deduced, must all have descended from just one ancestral species. Partly because of this observation, he promoted the theory that all living things come from one original, simple form. He asserted that the driving force behind the evolution of higher creatures from lower was natural selection, survival of the fittest. He claimed land animals developed from fish, birds from reptiles, etc. via evolution. Darwin's OBSERVATIONS in those isolated islands was in harmony with the Bible, which allows for variation within a major living kind. All races of mankind, for example, came from just one original pair of humans. Genesis chapter 2 verse 7: ""And God proceeded to form the man out of dust from the ground and to blow into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man came to be a living soul." and verses 22 through 24: "And God proceeded to build the rib that he had taken from the man into a woman and to bring her to the man. Then the man said: "This is at last bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh. This one will be called Woman, Because from man this one was taken." That is why a man will leave his father and his mother and he must stick to his wife and they must become one flesh." There's nothing strange about the various species of finches or anything else Darwin saw. And it certainly didn't prove that any living thing, be it sea gulls, elephants, sharks, earthworms, anything alive, have a common ancestor. Many scientists assert that evolution is no longer just a theory, but a fact. Others recognize the theory's problems, yet they believe it anyway, mainly because it's popular to do so. In my mind, it's important to know if evolution has proved the Bible wrong. World Book Encyclopedia: "All the chemical elements that make up living things are also present in nonliving matter." What all living things are made up from exist in the earth itself. This harmonizes with Genesis chapter 2 verse 7. The most obvious way to test the theory of evolution is to examine the fossil record to see if a gradual change from one kind to another actually happened. Based on fossil evidence, it did not happen. Francis Hitching wrote: "When you look for links between major groups of animals, they simply aren't there." The lack of fossil evidence is so obvious that evolutionists have come up with alternatives to Darwin's theory of gradual change. The truth is that the sudden appearance of animals kinds in the fossil record supports special creation much more than evolution. Hitching says: "Living cells duplicate themselves with near-total fidelity. The degree of error is so tiny that no man-made machine can approach it. There are also built-in constraints. Plants reach a certain size and refuse to grow any larger. Fruit flies refuse to become anything but fruit flies under any circumstances yet devised." Mutations induced by scientists over many decades have failed to force these to evolve into something else. Some point to similarities between man and some of the animals to prove their relationship. Man's mental capacities are far superior to those of any animal. Man can plan and organize the world around him, can love, has high intelligence, a conscience, and a concept of past, present, and future. Whe doesn't any other living thing possess ALL of these attributes as we do? Genesis chapter 1 verse 27: "And God proceeded to create the man in his image, in God's image he created him; male and female he created them." We are a reflection of our Creator, as far as our mental and moral abilities/potential. Life can only come from preexisting life, as French chemist Louis Pasteur demonstrated. Before that people thought that flies could develop from decaying meat and mice from a pile of old rags. The most popular evolutionary theory about the origin of life is that a chance combination of chemicals and energy sparked a spontaneous generation of life millions of years ago. World Book Encyclopedia: "Pasteur showed that life cannot arise spontaneously under the chemical and physical conditions present on the earth today. Billions of years ago, however, the chemical and physical conditions of the earth were far different!" Even with different conditons, though, there exists a huge gap between life and non-life. Michael Denton in Evolution: A Theory in Crisis, says: "Between a living cell and the most highly ordered non-biological system, such as a crystal or a snowflake, there is a chasm as vast and absolute as it is possible to conceive." The chance that life came from non-life by haphazard chance is about as a remote possibility as exists. It's simply impossible. The Bible teaches that life came from life, which is in harmony with the facts. Many nowadays view creation as unscientific, eccentric even. Even though Francis Hitching pointed out the weaknesses inherent in evolution, many reject creation. Michael Denton explained that even though evolution has many failings, it will continue to be taught because theories related to creation "invoke frankly supernatural causes." Because creation involves a Creator, it makes it unacceptable. This is circular reasoning if I've ever heard it. That's basically like saying miracles are impossible because they are miraculous! lol! The theory of evolution is deeply suspect from a scientific viewpoint. Michael Denton also says: "Being basically a theory of historical reconstruction, Darwin's theory of evolution is impossible to verify by experiment or direct observation as is normal in science....Moreover, the theory of evolution deals with a series of unique events, the origin of life, the origin of intelligence and so on. Unique events are unrepeatable and cannot be subjected to any sort of experimental investigation." Despite the popularity of the theory of evolution, it is full of gaps and problems. It provides no good reason to reject the Bible's account of the origin of life. Genesis provides a reasonable account of how such an unrepeatable event came about during creative days stretched through millenniums of time. I'm getting tired of typing, so I will finish by saying that science also supports the Genesis account of the flood. There are many other points I could make, but as i said, I'm getting all typed out. If you believe in the Christian God, there is no way you can believe in evolution. Call me what you want. I really don't care. Like I've said before, you can't force a horse to drink. We are superior to the animals. You don't see animals building rocket ships do you? Flying to the moon? Talking on the telephone? While I have the utmost love and respect for animals, find them fascinating and intriquing, and think that they are way smarter than and cunning and have more capacity for memory and such than most scientist believe, I also recognize that we are superior to them in other ways. We are definitely the dominant form of life on the earth. The animals were not created in God's image, we were. The evil in the world is evil committed with free will. Bad acts are a choice. That doesn't make us inferior to the animals. It just means that with our superior position come choices that can effect the entire earth in a much more profound way than can the animals. When animals create havoc it is due to instinctive response triggered by environmental conditions. >Sound irrational, doesn't it? You are trying to put it in a way to make what I say irrational. That doesn't mean it is. Peace, Paul |

that was a long post. Even for you paul.
Normally I don't mind your posts but that is too long for me to be bothered reading. How much time do you have to sit around and write these posts? |
