Mel Gibson's The Passion of Christ
Hmm Did anyone think the effects and bloody and everything else actually the physical appearance of the way Mel described Jesus is how he actually looked ? What do you think?

Welcome Dude12!
- - To the "Forum". I'm going to be waiting for that one to come-out on DVD, will probably order it then. I had heard both good-and-bad things about the movie, but I prefer to reserve judgement about it until I see it.
- - I had heard that there were many concerns that had been voiced by those of the "Jewish" faith, their thinking was that they had feared that there would be a wave of anti-semetic acts post-release. I understand that polls taken of the people who had viewed this movie had showed that these fears were unfounded, that conversely they had found that people were even more friendly towards those of the Jewish-faith after having seen the movie.
- - The only real concern I have about the movie is that I do wonder just how far Mel Gibson had gone in taking liberties with what is THOUGHT to have occurred by those that had compiled the Biblical text. I'll wait and see, though I have heard that there were exagerations done to make the movie more mentally gripping. . . (like with the actual "passion scenes. . . )

From what I've heard, there actually is a wave of antisemitism rising among kids: antisemite grafitti sprayed on cars and stuff like that...

Hello, Dutchie, nice to see ya here. . . .
- - - I have heard about this wave of anti-semetic sentiment that has been spreading, case-in-point what Chris had mentioned about the news item Toronto, Canada, but I think this was a wave of graffiti-spraying idiots that was going-on BEFORE the release of the Mel Gibson movie, (also I had been aware of a recent wave of anti-semetism in France as well/this had been going-on for awhile). Sad really, that the young would attach themselves to sick ideologies such as this. . . .

I am reluctant to say. Most people I work with, that have seen the movie, now have an anti-semitic ideology going on now. I have yet to see the movie so I don't know its power, if any. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

i have yet to see it either..but, who doesn't know the story??--Sadly, the crucifiction is seen as an anti-semitic statement by many..Nevermind that everyone in the movie is supposed to be Jewish..(Even though they are all played by Europeans..

The Passion is not Anti-Semitic.....
those who interpret it as such JUST DON'T GET IT...
He humbled himself and was fully obedient to God, even when that caused his death—death on a cross. (Philippians 2:8)
When human hands fastened the divine hands to a cross with spikes, it wasn’t the soldiers who held the hands of Jesus steady. It was God who held them steady. Those same hands that formed the oceans and built the mountains. Those same hands that designed the dawn and crafted each cloud. Those same hands that blueprinted one incredible plan for you and me.
Take a stroll out to the hill. Out to Calvary. Out to the cross where, with holy blood, the hand that placed you on the planet wrote the promise, “God would give up his only Son before he’d give up on you.”

Hi Guys,
I saw the movie about a month ago, and left the theater, more sure of my faith then ever. There was not one dry eye in the theater. Everyone that left felt in their heart what Christ went through in all his loving Glory.
I saw no one who became anti-sematic. I'm so tired of hearing about how the world will turn anti-semtic over this film. That is somethinf the media seems to want to project onto the public.
I only saw love and pain over all he went through. There is a very powerful scene, in which I will not mention because I don't want too give away the film. I'll just say it has to do with a mother and the love she had for her son.GUUYA'NHEY

I think the blood and gore are too much. It is just more difficult to get the message across when you do not resort to these "tools".
I think Gibson took the easy way by going this much OTT with the display of blood, pain and repulsive imagery, and I can understand why fundamentalist christians think the opposite. They invite non-believers to the theaters, but my guess is that those will just be scared off.
But the bottom line is, it is a movie that picks away at the very foundations of human decency with an abundancy of blood and gore that would make any horrormovie look like a walt disney fairytale. It's just way over the top in a way that makes it - almost - ridiculous, but ends up in being plain disgusting, realistic as it may be. Use of the original languages is good tho.
The anti-semitic idea is something I found hard to find or recognize. Jesus was a jew himself after all. He was a nuisance to the powers of the moment and had to be eliminated. The romans did not care much about it - for them it was daily routine.- If you wind up with a boring, miserable life because you listened to your parents, your teacher, your priest or some guy on TV telling you how to do your shit, then YOU DESERVE IT. I saw the movie about a month ago, and I really thought it was a job well done. Jesus getting the 40 lashes and kicked down while carrying the cross and basically bleeding to death was to make a point......the suffering the man took for humankind.....Yeah it was a bit over the top imo and a few spots bugged me, but I did a lot of thinking after I left the theatre that night....
As far as anti-semitism.....I didn't see one part in that movie that made me want to do anything to Jewish people....everyone had a part in Jesus' death.....not just the Jews.....
on a side note as I was walking out....no one was saying a word to each other...
any other person experience that?

I saw it the day before Easter...
and thought it was very powerful.
Its my opinion that the movie is probably more meaningful to Christians than to the secular public. I'm not sure how effective the movie is as an evangelical message to the non-believer. If you don't believe Jesus was real and died on the cross as a sacrifice for your sins then it is no more shocking than other movies with 'make believe' characters. As a believer, I felt very moved by the film... and it accomplishes what it is trying to do: make the movie goer understand the magnitude of Christs' sacrifice for us. Thats the reason for it being so graphic. The actual event was probably worse than the movie portrayed it to be.
The parts that affected me the most were the scenes where 1) Jesus was being jeered at and laughed at by the very people he was trying to save (and had healed and fed also) and 2) the story of Peter in the movie. Think how hard it is to serve a people that hate you and make you an outcast(thats what Jesus did). It takes a love that not many are capable of. Also, I identified with Peter in that I, too, have denied Christ many times during my life.
There will always be a small group of ignorant people who see a movie and take its' message to the lowest common denominator (eg, anti-semitic feelings). These type of people look for reasons to hate others. I don't think the movie would compel a 'normal or average' person to hate Jews. Physically, Jesus WAS a Jew... so, if you're going to hate the Jews because they wanted Christ dead, shouldn't you love the Jews because they are the people who produced the Savior???
The sanhedren(sp?) wanted Christ dead because He threatened their authority over the Jewish nation and the Jewish people of the day were both pressured and mislead by them. In my opinion, in the movie, the sanhedren looked evil, but the Jewish people just looked misinformed (most today still are).

Yes that IS an opinion. Yours. Everybody's misinformed. Except for you, of course...In my opinion, in the movie, the sanhedren looked evil, but the Jewish people just looked misinformed (most today still are).- If you wind up with a boring, miserable life because you listened to your parents, your teacher, your priest or some guy on TV telling you how to do your shit, then YOU DESERVE IT. Dutchie... are there anthills where you live?
Ever kick one over and see the ants pour out???
If you have, did you ever think that maybe one of the ants was better than another???
Probably not....
Thats the way I look at mankind (including myself).
We're all just ants as compared to God and NONE of us
have the right to boast!!!
Course there are some that have prefixes...
(ignor- and arog-) ;~)
PS... I LOVE talking with you, Dutchie!!! (really, no sarcasm)
