    Tried and true?

    Disable These Ads!
‘But all things that are reproved are reproved by the light’(Eph 5:13)

When this King James translation is rendered by the Amplified Version
    It reads, most illuminatingly;
(I will begin a little earlier!)
‘But what I do, I will continue to do, [For I am determined to maintain this independence] in order to cut off the claim of those who would like [to find occasion and incentive] to claim that in their boasted [mission] they work on the same terms we do. For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen….

The light is Messiah Yeshua, the Word made flesh.
The Word is the measure of doctrine. The narrow way, and few there are that find it!
Therefore, let all things done in the name of Yeshua conform to His Word and so to the character of the Father. All things that do not conform this way are heresy, or plainly and accurately put, personal opinion and preference.

This makes the work of studying and questioning the true from the false most important, and Paul encourages it, by telling Timothy to study the word. I t is not a work of unbelief or of undermining the faith. Nothing can undermine the faith because it’s essence is Yahweh (for the ekklesia that is), but WE can be dead wrong, obviously.
So if you make a doctrinal claim, it must be according to the Word. And the light of it (The Word) will show your stand to be either true or false.
By this I have endeavoured to show that many popular doctrines and terminologies don’t belong amongst the ekklesia. Like Paul, I am determined to maintain this independence from accepted interpretations and terminologies regardless, and in spite of, their longevity or popularity.

Believers have remarked here on AO that they are going to stick with the ‘tried and the true’ when it comes to names, terminology and doctrine. ‘Results’ are the justification for this stand.
    Well,
“..there will be false teachers among yourselves. Who will subtly and stealthily introduce heretical doctrines…’ (2Peter 2:1)
    and,
‘For false Christs and false Prophets will arise, and they will show great signs and wonders so as to deceive and lead astray, if possible, even the elect (Yahweh’s ekklesia)’(Matthew 24:24)

    This from Yeshua Himself!

None of us who consider ourselves a member of the ekklesia, should sit back and assume that we are not deceivable! DO YOU?

To stick with ‘the tried and the true’ could turn out to be the biggest cop- out of all!

What Yeshua is warning us of in Matt 24:24 is that ‘RESULTS’ do not necessarily mean something is true. What the ‘results’ are tied to doctrinally is VITAL.
Loyalty to one’s group has to come second to loyalty to Yahweh’s truth, no matter how inconvenient or upsetting. No matter how isolated it makes you.

This is why ongoing study must be made to determine what is accurate and what isn’t, we have nothing to lose!
Let the apple-cart be overturned, who cares? What remains will be worthy and the rubbish will be exposed!

Be determined to remain independent from the ‘madding crowd’, do you think John the Baptist cared whether people thought he was bonkers?

If I make a claim that baptism is supposed to be an immersion in literal water, all I can do is wait for an argument to come back that shows me I am wrong, Hooray!
I have gained something valuable, not lost anything.
The same applies about everything I have said on this forum.

I am not here to preach or proselytise, who the hell am I?

I’m here to learn and to be flexible so as to get just that bit closer to what’s worthy.

Thankyou AO community, for being engaging and challenging. This place stimulates a lot of research and reflection!

We are not as out of agreement as you have come to feel. There have been many times where I have had to go back and reassess my beliefs in light of new discoveries or insights. The learning process is a life long endeavor.

But we must all keep in mind our objectives. It is the scriptures that we are studying with the intention of gaining knowledge about God. Too often we get caught up in the trap of studying everyone else’s cometary of the scriptures instead of the scriptures themselves.

As most of the commentaries out there are designed to cast doubt on the scriptures so as to defend some favored doctrine or defend some desired sin things can very quickly become counter productive and ground lost, not gained.

Of all the claims regarding all the apparent contradictions that are supposed to be in the scriptures I have only found there to be one. And that one was because the same event was being viewed by different Old Testament Prophets from different perspectives regarding how much God was involved in allowing things to happen.

The scriptures, even though they were written hundreds of years apart actually support and confirm themselves if the reader understands the functions and objectives of all the separate covenants. But for some reason you just don’t find commentaries by the learned scholars that cover this. They all seem to concentrate on the lesser nonessentials, without getting into the deeper meat.
Blessings in the name of my Lord Jesus Christ who came in the flesh and now sits at the right hand of our God on high.

A confession of faith that the modern Evangelical movement can no longer make!

    Hi Trav!

I would say that the 'deeper meat' is focusing on love.

    I don't dis-agree with your post exactly, but I don't think I'm wasting my time on non-essentials.

The solarisation of the faith is a huge issue so far as I can see.

Are you saying that this isn't important? I mean, all the warnings about false interpretations and false teachings would indicate that such an issue is what we were so earnestly being asked to guard against and expose.

That the opposition very cleverly made the names of our Father and Messiah generic was a diabolical masterstroke don't you think?
