French Government Effectively Bans Muslim Women From Public Pool/Beach
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090812/...urquini_banned
So, a Muslim woman comes up with a clever way to remain fully covered but still be able to enjoy public pools/beaches.
But nooooo...
Officials try to stop the swimsuit. But that effectively bans Muslim women from public pools/beaches, doesn't it?
Is this effectively religious discrimination, or not?
It is my opinion that historically France has gone too far with change too quickly. What's yours, specifically on this issue?"I was put on trial twice near Y2K for acting like Jesus and claiming to be the Messiah. Its not everyday that a man parks a Chariot of Fire in front of a tomb and stands against the US government with a bow and razor tipped arrows over his shoulder. I wore a suit of armor and was protected by an invisible bubble and my sharp tongue was more than the judicial system could handle."Jake

It is religious discrimination. As the government should have no saying on how a person dresses. As long it does not violate any dress regulations.
The way things are going. It is only a matter of time before we see the WW2 signs about Jews again. Only this time against Muslims.

I think the French are more afraid of being discriminated against themselves.
They rely a lot on tourism for their income. money talks louder with them.Blessings in the name of my Lord Jesus Christ who came in the flesh and now sits at the right hand of our God on high.
A confession of faith that the modern Evangelical movement can no longer make!

No, its not discrimination. France has very strict rules for public pools. Men aren't allowed to wear bermuda shorts, only a Speedo-type thing. Is that discrimination? No. Its the rules.
To the contrary, it would be discrimination against everyone who followed the rules to allow the "burquini" into the pool. If she doesn't like it then she can install a pool in her own home or go someplace that doesn't have these rules (a lake or river) or she can choose not to swim. But she CHOOSE to live her life by antiquated Muslim rules. Now she has to live with that.
From the article: "But Daniel Guillaume, a regional official in charge of swimming pools, said Carole's poolside rebuff had nothing to do with religion and everything to do with public health standards.
He said swimmers throughout France must wear special clothes to the pool, whereas a burquini could be worn all day long, collecting everything from food spills to sweat along the way.
"These clothes are used in public, so they can contain molecules, viruses, et cetera, which will go in the water and could be transmitted to other bathers," Guillaume said in a telephone interview.
"We reminded this woman that one should not bathe all dressed, just as we would tell someone who is a nudist not to bathe all naked," he said."
On a personal note: When I was a fundy, I was raised to believe that swim suits were too revealing and would only swim in long skirts and a shirt. Because of the rules for public pools (no outside clothing) I was not allowed to swim at public pools in my home town. Did I believe it was discrimination? NO. I swam at the lake or not at all. Living by the rules I did was MY choice (well, mine and my father's when I was kid). I had to live with the consequences. So does "Carole" the burquini wearer."We will not be driven by fear into an age of unreason, if we dig deep in our history and our doctrine, and remember that we are not descended from fearful men — not from men who feared to write, to associate, to speak and to defend causes that were, for the moment, unpopular."

Okay, now I feel a rant coming on....
Why does religion get special treatment that other beliefs don't? If I wanted to go to the pool and I believed that I would be scanned by space aliens unless I wore my oh-so-special jeans in the pool, no one would take that seriously. But if I say that an invisible man in the sky told me that I can't wear anything but my jeans in it is suddenly lent all sorts of credibility. Why?
And why isn't the opposite true? American women can't go to public places in Islamic countries in a bikini. We can't just swim wherever. We have to go to special foreigners-only pools or not swim at all, so the Islamic men aren't tempted (or scandalized) by our naked flesh.
Yet most people would say, "Well, if you are in their country then you have to abide by their rules, however stupid you think they are." Well, these are the rules in France. They apply to everyone. You don't get an exemption because the Invisible Man told you that you did.
Its pretty simple really. It has nothing to do with religion or discrimination (which is ridiculous on the face of it because why should your religious beliefs get special rights?). Its about rules and culture. In France the rules are that in a public pool you wear a bathing suit. If you don't like it, DON'T SWIM THERE."We will not be driven by fear into an age of unreason, if we dig deep in our history and our doctrine, and remember that we are not descended from fearful men — not from men who feared to write, to associate, to speak and to defend causes that were, for the moment, unpopular."

Isn't that hypocrite, as speedos can also be worn all day long.He said swimmers throughout France must wear special clothes to the pool, whereas a burquini could be worn all day long, collecting everything from food spills to sweat along the way.
But then again, French bathing rules are indeed so strict that it borders on the absurd.
You need a signed letter from the doctor claiming that you do not carry an infectious decease if your toenail looks even slightly looks yellow.
Too bad however that the Burkini is banned due to expressing the Muslim religion everywhere. Even on places that does not have absurd laws like France

Good! Don't let this sign of oppression go on! Keep it up France, maybe one day the women will realize they aren't slaves and rise up against the animals who own them.

French swimming pools do not sound like the kind of place I would choose to swim. It isn't that I disagree with the decision they're making here (each country should come up with their own standards and enforce them) but that I wouldn't get caught dead in a speedo. Not anymore.

Lol, yeah the rules seem weird. DOes that mean a woman can't wear a one piece? Or boy shorts?

Yeah, isn't that going on even in America? Not that Muslim women are allowed to drive in most countries controlled by Islam. But in the nations like France and America they shout and blow shit up because the nation dares say women can't be 100% covered, except for .000001% of their eye showing in the driver license? Gee, I can't imagine why they don't want people driving with their eyes covered....

Its not discrimination saying a Muslim woman can't drive or have her ID taken with her body 100000000% covered except for like, .00000000000000000000000000000001% of her left eye showing. First, how the fuck do you tell who's license it is, and second, how would they see to drive?
Lyc, next time you go for a License picture, put on sunglasses, bandanna, face paint, and then put a burlap bag over your head with a tiny hole cut out for your left eye. Then scream discrimination when they say you can't take a picture like that.

More biased bullshit from GG. Perhaps you missed my video in your other bullshit thread that clearly demonstrated Muslim women are not discriminated against in the fashion you seem to think they are.

This woman is a muslim. She is not covered up. She don't look to beat up to me. In fact she's quite well respected, quite wealthy, doing well. Don't think she's even married. There are many women like this in Muslim Countries. Kind of puts the cobblers on your idiotic rantings, don't it?

Or do I run the BBC and just made up that women are BANNED from driving?
http://www.clickorlando.com/news/1214015/detail.html
And now I run that news site also? Look at that, Muslim woman suing because she wanted a license picture that barely showed her eyes and the law saying "Uh, you can't do that."

Well I can't count the times I've been chucked out of resort hotel pools in France for wearing cut offs. Its an old establish rule that's been around for some time, and its based on health reasons...nothing more. And if you figure that France has some of the largest Muslim populations due to its old African territories being granted citizenship, I would think France has been quite tolerant with the demands by said groups to establish themselves in the host country.
The same claims were shouted in Scandinavia for driving permits, and it had fuck all to do with religious discrimination on the part of government, it was a simple matter of a valid ID....
Europe has been vary gracious in its immigration policies, and if you figure the amount of displaced peoples due to war, Europe has taken the lions share of this flood of humanity.
Assimilation can be defined as such that becoming part of the existing culture
would be prime, and not the efforts made to force foreign religious demands upon the host country. ( Ask any native American what they think of this issue.....
