The System Worked... ?
Secretary Napolitano said the homeland security-system regarding air-travel worked, Sunday on CNN.
I wondered what system she was referring-to... plain, old-fashioned 'good luck' ? -Or typical Al Qaeda ineptitude, when solelly motivated by zealous expediency?
Then, today, she flip-flopped her comment;

Leave it to an Obama appointee to politicize everything, while treating incidents like Flight-253 and Fort Hood as ordinary 'crimes'. -No wonder the Trial Lawyers Lobby adores the current Congress and Administration so much.

So what would you all have done differently so that something like this would not occur?

If we go back to the free situation ten years ago with no lists or flight precautions and such. People must also accept that they are going to lose a plane and civilians to terrorist attacks once in a while.
If you want to adapt to the new situation created by the terror war and stop such attacks. You need strict security and reduced privacy to foil those plans.
You cant have a cake and eat it too in this matter.

Agreed.
One thing is that no fly list is some 500,000 names and growing. There are people on there like Cat Stevens and Ted Kennedy (I doubt he will be blowing up any planes soon). They need to pear that down to a workable number. They need to place those scanners to view under peoples cloths if your to modest then I guess you don't fly tough luck.Be Impeccable with Your Word

In any free society, you cannot have 100% protection. But she claimed the system worked, and has now said it did not. She is a fucking idiot to think the system worked in her original statement.

Im betting you didn't listen to her original statement Pico or Jena or Reef or Panama hell Im not sure OD even listened to it or if you did you heard what you wanted and not what was said.
Listen to the first video OD posted. She says "Once the incident occurred the system worked" she did not claim that the system worked before the incident occurred. Your hatred of the current administration clouds your minds.
I'm not saying there aren't any problems with the current administration but you are over reacting trying to score points against Obama and its making you skip logic.Be Impeccable with Your Word

Sure it can. But it's a joint effort. You can't sit in a 'free society' and then complain when The System doesn't stop the plane flying into the building. Because 100% protection is a joint effort. It requires everyone to be vigilant. This is why people get robbed in the street. Because they walk around with their minds full of trivialities, looking at the pavement and hands in their pockets.
A little more self-awareness in people would go a long way to cutting down on many of the crimes in the world that exist. It's the same with terrorism. People are always so preoccupied about the 1000000000000 things they HAVE to do today, either for holiday or on business, that even if they see a suspicious person at the airport they don't register it.
It is possible to get 100% protection, but the only person who can bring that about for you personally is you. The only people that can bring it about for nations, are the peoples of those nations paying attention to the world rather than the bullshit that fills their minds currently.America must burn.

The so called system will never work as long as government agency don't share information and act on it.
But then if they act on it someone will scream police state.
A simple answer would be to profile people. But that would be wrong.....________________

More than a month prior to the attempted attack the US was warned about the bomber by his own family.
"...U.S. counterterror agencies received the information on Nov. 20, a day after it was provided by the father, but it was not enough to revoke the visa."
So, if his daddy thinks he is dangerous, why was he not taken seriously? His daddy made three separate warnings about his Muslim extremist son.

I am really surprised that a plane has not been brought down by a wacko, Muslim bomber. With security like this below it is simlpy a miracle. Then the bomber is allowed to board a plane in Amsterdam for the US where the three anti-bomb/explosive search procedures are not used. One, being a low tech physical search of a known Muslim extremist.
"The problem was that Amsterdam had no such airport "puffer" machines, the devices that blow air onto a passenger to collect and analyze residues, would probably have detected the powder, as would bomb-sniffing dogs or a hands-on search using a swab, but unfortunately none were used."

I feel that way at times Max. But we do have one thing....people.
You, me and everyone else. We find corruption in government and scream about it. And sometimes change it.
We go after corrupt corporations and make them change. People make a difference. Governments only do what we allow them to do.________________

Exactly. If I were in an all black country that had been terrorized by strictly white people, I would sure as hell understand if I were profiled. I would encourage them to check me - just to be sure I was not the one with the bomb. Hell when the police are looking for a serial killer, they tend to profile middle aged white men. Does anyone flinch over that?
We waste time checking little old ladies and 3 year olds in strollers. And god help you if you have a hip replacement - never mind that you're 90 years old -you might be a terrorist.
I know that this is not the popular answer with most people but it's the most logical and in this case - logic should prevail.
**edit - I should add that by profile, I mean younger men - all of them. You can't really profile for Muslims because they come in all sizes, colors and shapes. You profile young men - you stand a better chance of catching a terrorist.Last edited by JenaS62; Dec 28th, 2009 at 8:25 PM.
