Big Oil Fights Back
Judge blocks Gulf offshore drilling moratorium.
I wonder if he got a nice gift for the judgment?
I agree in spirit, but taking a quick break to evaluate safety is not unreasonable in my book.A federal judge struck down the Obama administration's six-month ban on deepwater oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday, saying the government rashly concluded that because one rig failed, the others are in immediate danger, too.
[...]
The lawsuit was filed by Hornbeck Offshore Services of Covington, La., and company CEO Todd Hornbeck said after the ruling he is looking forward to getting back to work.

It's the Law. Government can't shut-down an industry-sector arbitrarily. The 33 other platforms all passed inspection within the past 12 months. Salazar's people couldn't defend the suspension of being anything other than 'arbitrary'. This was the first-ever deep-water drilling accident, so the judge didn't accept the Government's 'safety' argument.

Wow - the Obama administration "misrepresented" something?? How shocking.
"The seven experts who advised President Obama on how to deal with offshore drilling safety after the Deepwater Horizon explosion are accusing his administration of misrepresenting their views to make it appear that they supported a six-month drilling moratorium -- something they actually oppose.
The experts, recommended by the National Academy of Engineering, say Interior Secretary Ken Salazar modified their report last month, after they signed it, to include two paragraphs calling for the moratorium on existing drilling and new permits."

Wait, wait, the republicans block shit so BP can make more billionaires and destroy American and all you got out of it was Obama is an evil liberal socialist secret Muslim from Africa? How often do they send out the memos? Go Hive Mind! Keep using FOX NEWS for sources even though it said it wasn't a news channel but entertainment. Wow Jena, why not use the KKK website for more anti Obama propaganda? At least they admit they are open about being racist bigoted assholes.

Actually GG - this is how I see it. On Earth Day 2010 - two weeks after Obama announces support for off shore drilling - the BP oil rig explodes, causing the worst environmental disaster in US History. I find it a very convenient means to an end regarding Cap and Trade legislation. Although a 6 month moratorium was not part of the recommendations by the administrations 'experts' - the administration adds it in AFTER it was signed by said experts. I guess you don't see a problem with that.
**edit - GG, take your racist KKK shit and shove it up your ass.

BO cares about the environment about as much as Al Gore. How much money and power can he control while pretending to care . Maybe we can give him another Noble Prize for saying plug the damn hole. I am sure the government already knows why and what went wrong with this oil rig. Could it be they need six months to fix the other oil rigs ? Or six months of oil leaking into the gulf to push a political agenda. Hey if Bush could use WMD's to go to war I am sure this current administration can use an oil leak to pass cap and trade. Same old game just a different player up to bat.
There could be a good reason why we can't stop the oil leak. But there is no good reason why we don't have ever available oil skimming ship in the Gulf. Ok I was wrong on that part. Lack of leadership is why.....________________

Then you must believe that the government's engineers are far better and more qualified than the engineers who work in the field.
Which is quite ridiculous... the federal government has ALWAYS lagged behind the private sector in terms of scientific knowledge and skill.
If the government engineers "know" then so do most other engineers. But now you have to assume that either the government has the best engineers (which is ridiculous) or that the government is somehow "keeping them quiet."
Also, see my response to Jena below, because it applies to you as well.
Do you believe that Obama likes being President?
Or do you believe that he cares more about "CAP AND TRADE" then he does about being the big dog in power in Washington?
Because this disaster, not the health care bill, not anything else, may very well be THE issue that makes him lose his reelection bid, because this will cost him some DEMOCRAT and INDEPENDENT votes, as well as Republican, whereas the others will only cost him some independent and Republican votes.
So, since you believe this retarded conspiracy theory, you must believe that Obama wants Cap and Trade more than he wants to be President.
And so the idiocy of conspiracy theories propels themselves into deeper and deeper levels of stupidity...
EDIT- let me add that when I took Psychology 101 a couple of years ago, I got the only A+ of the year on my end of semester project. Why is this relevant? My project was a survey of about 20 questions asking about certain beliefs and comparing it to education level. It covered several hundred people (students and professors) around my school. I'm sure you can guess the results. In the conspiracy theory section, almost NONE of those with PhD or Masters believed in them. Some with Bachelors degrees did. A great deal of those with just a high school education did, and the MAJORITY of those with less than a high school education believed in them. Also note that IQ correlates with education level. Hopefully you can connect the dots..."I was put on trial twice near Y2K for acting like Jesus and claiming to be the Messiah. So the tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands out of work because of the oil spill is better? Hotels closed because of no beach goers, life guards with no jobs, fishermen/crab/prawns, restaurants that close again because of no tourism. I guess MILLIONS of people affected by this oil spill in the red states are better then the Republicans losing a few thousand jobs while destroying the Gulf.
So if we continue, if we want one crime stopped in a city, it is better we nuke the city rather then hire 5 more police officers. I like that logic. Heck, if we want all wars ended instead of working hard towards peace we should just blow up the planet.

Obama, like Bush, is just a puppet. He will do what he is instructed to do by the global elite. It matters not what political party he is with since there only seems to be one now.
My, I am so impressed with your knowledge and education level. I can connect the dots that you are the most self important and arrogant ass on this board. You are young and lack life experience which counts for a hell of a lot more than book experience. I have connected the dots and it points me to more government corruption just like 911. Whether you see it or not, has absolutely no bearing on it happening. It is happening right under our noses.

So Jena, again, what is worse a few thousand Republicans losing jobs with BP or the MILLIONS affected by the oil spill? The tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of jobs loss due to loss of tourism, fish, and other things damaged by the oil spill.
And hey, another post where you defend BP because the Hive Mind commanded so!

It prevents any more spills. And if it had been done earlier would have saved all these jobs now lost. Your solution is blow up every oil platform and spill all the oil possible. The good guys solution is stop it from happening again.

The party you support is equally retarded to the parties you hate, from my perspective. They've done no better (but no worse) at handling this crisis than anyone else.
Obama should have stepped up on day one. It's his country this is affecting and it is a country to whom he has a responsibility to ensure its safety in all matters. This has not been done and, for this, he is a culpable as BP.America must burn.

Your conspiracy theory is retarded. Usually it's the fools who wish that life was more interesting than it really is who believe these things. It's like adults who want to pretend. Or those who want some logical explanation for why life is shitty.
You people have no regard for such things as Occam's Razor or observable reality. At some point you'd expect people to grow up and let go of such childish things that everything has to make logical sense. The reason the economy sucks, the reason for the oil spill, the reason for all of this crap that has happened is nothing other than the general incompetence and foolishness of the human race. I know it makes life easier for you to understand if you assume that some Great Entity is actually in control, causing these bad things (like early humans needed to believe in "Satan" and other "Gods" to explain why bad shit happens), but really, at some point you have to grow up."I was put on trial twice near Y2K for acting like Jesus and claiming to be the Messiah. Bingo. We manage to fuck things up out of sheer incompetence and hubris; no conspiracy is necessary. The reason the economy sucks, the reason for the oil spill, the reason for all of this crap that has happened is nothing other than the general incompetence and foolishness of the human race.
