1700s ship found below ground zero...
Heres the story:

So...uh...how does a ship from the 1700s get there like that?!? Crazy!

Wow, I bet that was a surprise to dig up. Curious as to how they missed it when they began construction on the towers. More surprised as to how it survived when the towers came down.
Quite a find. Thank you for this link.Lurking in your threads. Always watching, always waiting.

Well:
The article says that people put it there on purpose. I guess it was better suited to be landfill than a ship at the time. Interesting how 18th century garbage is now a treasure. Interesting find, thanks AssX

If you look at the photos of where the wreck was found, you can see fill layers. They were adding to Manhattan Island, to make it bigger, from the moment the Indians left. It was safer, and more easily protected than the mainland. What I can't figure out is why they didn't reuse that cut lumber? That's a bit of a mystery, if you ask me.

McDonald and archaeologist A. Michael Pappalardo were at the site of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks when the discovery was made Tuesday morning.
Very Interesting, and strange. I'll have to follow this one.
