Fashion Trend: I told you so

Ok, it hasn't happened yet. But in about 5 or so years, these pants are going to blow up across the U.S. I think I just spotted a trend before it's mainstream and has mass appeal.

What pants, you may ask? Well, men/women's harem pants. It's only a matter of time before this nonsense leaves big cities and spreads like a pestilence. It's possible most of you don't know what I'm talking about. Don't worry, you'll know soon enough.

I'm only making this thread so that in 5+ years people will know I told them so. Especially since I won't be frequenting AO then.
Of course, I'm not alone in seeing this coming doom...

But to be fair the pants are actually comfortable.. And it's basically just like skinny jeans were 5 years ago..

They are already vogue in Britain, infact they are kind of growing out of Vogue now, especially for women. Loose pants like that became fashionable after the inevitable end of the "form fitting" skinny jeans / jeggings trend cooled down a few years ago. 2010 has really been the year for loose fitting clothes, with harem pants and other things like them being the high end of fashion.

Mens "tops" had a harem style too, with a sort of flowing ruffle at the front. Me and my friends were dressing like this around christmas time, and wearing boots like that man does in the first picture.



The boot fashion is one ive liked very much this season. So many styles of boot, I have a pair that has two "belts" on the back that have quite a high heel on them, I just love the sound they make when I walk. Kudos to you Beatnik for spotting the rising trend.

Im glad to see that American male fashion is becoming very, very astute. For years now you have lagged behind in the metrosexual department, wearing college blazers and random pairs of shitty jeans, and mud stained shoes. But it seems male fashion is becoming popular over there, as it is over here.

Soon you will all be moisturing twice a day and buying tons of grooming products like we do! ITS A SLIPPERY SLOPE AMERICA! Oldschool masculinity is dead these days, good riddance!

That's a really good point. As you know, I like to make fun of Brits from time to time, but western european fashion is always ahead of U.S. fashion. At least this is the case for the eastern seaboard of America.

You remind me though of how the popular style in Israel ("hip" places that is. Like Tel-Aviv), when I went in 2007, was skinny jeans.
It took awhile for skinny jeans to become popular outside of cities like New York or Chicago.. As far as America goes.
The rest of the nation are only just recently experiencing what you say Britain has already grown out of.

But anyway, that wasn't always the case. Allot of these styles, are styles America created or was a forerunner in in previous decades.
The reason we lag so far behind now is because America has an extremely homophobic culture just outside of the metropolis. You wouldn't believe how popular a term like "fag" is here. American mainstream culture is really anti-gay. (Which has crippled us in more ways than just style).
Of course, there are exceptions. "Legalize L.A." shirts are after all, very American.
But for the most part, I wouldn't want to visit many places in the country.


I was at lollapalooza for a little bit, and all the chicks were wearing feathers in their hair or something. Jean shorts (above the knee) were really popular for guys and girls. I have two pairs of skinny shorts. They're popular here for Summer, but I have no idea what the popularity for this kinda thing is in Britain. ?
Americans aren't really known for dressing very chic. Our fashion is allot less formal and more slack. Thus random shit like "feathers." All the girls want to look like a native american hipster meets classic 50s. Or something.

When professional footballers and pop stars started getting huge endorsements by Gilette and fashion houses etc, the women realised they found the groomed look sexy. They found a man with soft skin and no hair attractive, pretty soon it became a rising mainstream and now we have statistics being reported on our news and social feeds about how "43% of men wax" or "22% of British men have worn makeup" (Ive worn concealer before, several times.
