To those who believe in God
Hi! First post here!
To those people who believe God exists, my question is: why?
A brief description (or long, your choice) of what you believe would also be helpful :p

First, I'd have to say that I don't hold to a conventional Abrahamic concept of God.
That out of the way, yes. Why? Personal experience... i.e. it will remain private. So not much use for discussion, sorry.
If I had to make a post-hoc argument (with minimal enthusiasm,) I'd probably reference the anthropic principle and attempt to counter the standard critiques... point out that the existence of the Universe stands counter to one of its most fundamental laws: that energy can neither be created or destroyed. All of which is meta-physically arguable, however.
Bottom line: my conception of "God" could care less if it's believed in or not... so I see no reason to take up arms or issue bizarre threats regards belief in its existence. Belief in God(s), historically, and to this day, is good business for the undertakers and organized religion. Ergo, viva le atheists.

Being one that has experienced most religions or has been apart of those religions/spiritism, the conclusion that has to be reached in my own life is this..
Eph 1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
Eph 1:18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
Eph 1:19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
Eph 1:20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
Eph 1:21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
Eph 1:22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
Eph 1:23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
God has proven himself to me by the undeniable experiences that I have had that has proven that He has in reality set His only begotten Son above ALL other names ie: gods, goddesses, demons, watchers, or aliens.
Other names may act like they are above all others, but they aren't when they have to contend with God's power through Christ.Neither do men put new wine into old bottles

It's easier to comprehend for me that we exist within an energy or intelligent source of energy called God or a creator than to think that the grand beauty and infinite universe is something that needs to be proved and described to be understood by science or understandings. While science is useful, it always denies (to a lesser degree) the feminine and qualitative attributes of all matter, which doesn't require definitions to enjoy and accept it as reality - only the experience of emotions through our senses.
It's kind of like the right and left brain. Logic can balance your checkbook, but your math skills are not going to provide you with happiness through your ability to do great accounting. Art, emotion, happiness, beauty, all come from the part of God that we cannot explain but can experience and know.
Uncle Sam is a two bit coward - always taking money from his brother's kids and telling them he wants them to join his Army.

Jesus demonstrated it, coming in the flesh, being crucified and having all the things happen as prophesied by the OT prophets, then actually rising again the third day, and walking around talking with people.
Then finally, the final ascension, where he went up into the sky before many hundreds of witnesses.
Thats why Christianity overthrew the roman empire in the 1st century, because even the roman guards were coming to Christ, everyone witnessed His great Glory.
"He who calls on the name of the Lord, shall be saved."

Hello Wiccan_Child and thank-you for your question,
It would seem that everything that exists has to have an origin, everything that we create tells about us and when you examine the world of existence you find that it tells a story as well and that story is about how it came to be and the laws that govern it, to have order there needs to be a force that maintains that order, or else it becomes disorder and so the force or energy that connects us all is God.
These are a simple version of what I believe
There is only one God
There is only one religion (but men call it by different names)
Man is one, no matter what we call God, we are all speaking of the same God.
Science and Religion must be harmonious.
Women and Men are equal.
Independent Investigation of the Truth, we are all responsible for our own understanding. His Faithful Servant
David.

If you're talking about the Christian God and Christianity, the answer is-"because Christianity WORKS, just like it says on the box", it's a power thing that atheists and nonchristians can't or won't understand..:)
"Our gospel came to you not simply with words, but also with POWER.."-1 Thess 1:5
"For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of POWER"- 2 Tim 1:7
"I am full of POWER,judgement and might by the spirit of the Lord"- Micah 3:8
"The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world...they have divine POWER to demolish strongholds"- 2 Cor 10:4
"After Jesus spent the night in prayer, everybody tried to touch him because POWER was coming from him"- Luke 6:12-19
Jesus said - "Someone touched me, I know that POWER has gone out from me."- Luke 8:46
And we too can "touch" Jesus by logging onto him to get a power download, just mumbling a few words now and again will get you connected, even if it's just "Jesus remember me", whenever you're feeling tired, lonely, fed up..

But mate,in your profile you call yourself a "Bahai", whose adherents follow several different teachings including those of Mohammed.
So, given that the Christian God says "Jesus is my son", and the Muslim god (Allah) says "Oh no he's not", how on earth can you say God and Allah are the same?

it is the reading of the Gospel that convinced me that God existed ; (before that i was agnostic). This Jesus i read the words and the acts could not be a man like all others . Obviously he was more than a prophet , wise man , teacher ...
the officers answered, "Never has a man spoken the way this man speaks." [John 7:46]
I believe that God sees the hearts who are thirsty for mercy and truth.
Mercy and Truth have come by Jesus (John 1:17)

So true, all you have to do is read the words of Jesus.
Just look at: "Matthew 24" and try it for yourself.
Even just google it if you don't have a bible, then you can knowingly accept or reject Jesus Christ.
(In most bibles, the words of Jesus are in red, so just flip through and have a look.)
"He who calls on the name of the Lord, shall be saved."

why?
I believe in god because I dont have a choice. Because if I dont believe in god, then I have to believe there is no fairness in life or in death, and that when we die we simply cease to exist and life meant nothing.

What was he hoping for, a forum full of conformists.Blessings in the name of my Lord Jesus Christ who came in the flesh and now sits at the right hand of our God on high.
A confession of faith that the modern Evangelical movement can no longer make!

sure friend!
I believe in God because I dont believe their is any other explination that is good enough than what I have read and what God Itself has told me.. God has spoken to me ever since I was a little child.. the Devil has spoken to me too.. but I prefer to be on God's side and to talk to them. I was raised into a family of strict baptist church goers.. I've always been a wonderer, but my family and church didnt like it.. so at the age of 14yrs old after all that strict nonesense I wanted to wonder.. learn about the world and all it has to offer.. well I didnt get to do that so easily due to my strict religious upbringing... It was hard for me to open my closed mind... but later in life I grew out of it and decided to explore the dark caves of the world which the devil roams. 2 months ago I left those caves after being in them for 6 yrs.. I learned so much.. I am a major believer in: you must feel hate before you can feel love.. you must go into the dark.. before you can go into the light. Doing this will enable you to have a inriched full understanding of the world and how God operates.. I must warn you though.. when you go down those Caves.. you must leave all cowardice behind you. May God show you the light.

I believe in Our Father God, not church religion, because when I obey the Word it works in my life.
I actually get to experience the wonder of the NT Jesus, because He made me change into His new creation. I think it was because i was so desperate to be a part of His kingdom, that He had pity on me.
I have learnt many things i never knew before and I am learing how not to think like people do in vanity but think now from the LIFE REALM.
this LIFE REALM overcomes our death vain world and all its negative thinking.
I think the best example Jesus did was stay in the company of Judas and not complain, pray, or do anything but His Fathers will over this ghastly situation. This example is showing how Jesus ate from the tree of Life and remained alive and exploding with LIVING LIFE.
this is what i learnt
Jesus had EVERY RIGHT to complain about Judas - but that would be eating from the tree of good and evil knowledge [that is death] so Jesus remained EATING from the Tree of Life because He accepted The Tree of Life which is ''different thinking'' than good and evil.
it is hard to explain, but it is like REVERSED THINKING.
