Could a domestic economy work for the US?
Prior to 1979 when diplomatic and economic relations with China began, the US operated a primarily domestic economy. In other words, we produced our own products for the most part. That is not to say that trade would cease to exist, but rather to say that we would be self-sustaining economically, and instead of "made in China" on everything, we would see "made in the USA." Do you believe that in the modern world, a primarily domestic economy could work, as it had done for hundreds of years in the past?

It would work if you dropped your lifestyle to amuch lower level. China allows a higher standard of living for all in the west because the cost of production is so cheap. If we domesticated our industry again, you wouldnt have a plasma tv. Everything would be intrinisically more expensive and you would have to cut out huge chunks of what you take for advantage now.
