Dems cause chaos in House by putting ultra-conservative budget up…
http://www.hanlonsrazor.org/2011/04/...ive-budget-up/
Panic ensued. In the House, legislation passes by a simple majority of members voting. The Dems took themselves out of the equation, leaving Republicans to decide whether the House should adopt the more-conservative RSC budget instead of the one authored by Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan. As Dems flipped to present, Republicans realized that a majority of their members had indeed gone on the record in support of the RSC plan — and if the vote closed, it would pass. That would be a slap in the face to Ryan, and a politically toxic outcome for the Republican party.
So they started flipping their votes from “yes” to “no.”
In the end, the plan went down by a small margin, 119-136. A full 172 Democrats voted “present.”
Ror. The GOP is put in a room and told you got it and... They fucked it up. Ha!

Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory is what keeps the Republican in business.

Jim Crow America relegated Blacks to the back of buses. Israel wants Arabs excluded from the bus entirely.

Also, the Repugs get the chance they've been waiting for. To pass a SUPER CONSERVATIVE budget. Slash spending, give so many tax breaks to the top 1% they'd end up pay no taxes ever again, and... The GOP panic and back off.
Also, when Dems threatened a Filibuster, the GOP called Foul and Anti American. But since 2006 has there been a single bill the Reps didn't threaten with one?Last edited by GamerGal; Apr 19th, 2011 at 1:54 AM.

Update
Also, my favorite line. Not only are Republicans wasting time with the Paul Ryan proposal, their cynical gambit on the even more drastic House Republican Study Committee came back to bite them. They may be under pressure to keep campaign promises about balancing the budget—but they're running a huge risk of electoral disaster with their overreach.
While Republicans are chiding President Obama for lacking leadership, they are wasting precious time pushing an agenda to nowhere.
On Friday, we were forced to endure a day of debate on the Paul Ryan budget, which everyone knows is dead on arrival in the Senate. The centerpiece of the congressman's grand plan—turning Medicare into a voucher program—is opposed by the majority of the population. He offers more tax cuts for the wealthy despite the public's overwhelming support for taxing the rich.
Please don't make us listen to the people who kept two wars off the books to make spending look lower than it was lecture us about fiscal responsibility.
Now wait for Freddy, Jena, so forth, to come in and claim that the trillions spent on Iraq was totally worth it, but the billions(That were then paid back) in bailing out the auto companies were a huge waste and proof black people shouldn't be in power.
What is the Republican approach to fixing the deficit that they created?
1) Shut down the government!
2) Never cut the defense budget which has grown 81% since 2000?
3) Take the disabled and place them on mountain tops to die, instead of paying Medicaid?
4) Continue to allow corporations like GE, Exxon Mobil and the Bank of America not to pay taxes?
5) Continue to attack the American worker reducing further their wages and benefits?
6) Attack the very people who put tax dollars into Social Security and Medicare and tell them too bad, eat cake!
As the Republicans wring their hands and cry foul over raising taxes and making the wealthy and corporations pay a fair share, may I remind this bunch of losers, in eight years you ran up an $11 trillion dollar debt, while fighting an illegal war, giving massive unfunded government subsidies to the pharmaceutical companies and caused the greatest economic meltdown since the Great Depression? May I also remind you that you did nothing while $20 trillion dollars of toxic derivatives were sold to the world, causing governments massive deficits in their pension funds!
Please shut up and do the right thing for the American people. Not just the upper 1%!
An American worker voting for a Republican is sort of like a chicken supporting Colonel Sanders!

That is WAY too simplistic. Here's why, where as your correct that the HOUSE could have passed a budget. The thing is it likely would have NEVER made it out of the senate. Why you ask? Because of one simple word, Filibuster. You see what held up a 2010 budget was the house was trying to create a budget bill that would actually make it out of the senate. That never happened.
The dems are "trying" to work as the congress has worked for it's entire existence, i.e. pass legislation that actually has a chance of getting signed. The problem is the Republicans are not. They are content with stopping anything and everything if it doesn't meet their precise agenda regardless of whether it has a chance of making it into law or not.
It's called dysfunctional and it's going to ruin this entire country.
