Journalists, Terrorists, Drug Cartel Leaders, and Major Criminals...
Well, now the State is collecting personal information from "news anchors, journalists, reporters or anyone who may use “traditional and/or social media in real time to keep their audience situationally aware and informed.”

RT News has the story.
Read it for yourself- be sure to check out the supporting links.
DHS.gov (pdf)
Isn't it nice to know that "anchors, newscasters, on-scene reporters..." (think of the citizen journalists re #OWS, alone...) "...who are known or identified as reporters in their post or article or who use traditional and/or social media in real time to keep their audience situationally aware and informed" are categorized for the same treatment leveled for "Terrorists™, drug cartel leaders, or other person known to have been involved in major crimes of Homeland Security "interests". This seems to me like a first step in criminalizing journalists. Remember Naomi Klines reminder that in fascist regimes, they always go after the journalists first.Requirement: OPS/NOC is permitted to collect PII on the following categories of individuals when it lends credibility to the report or facilitates coordination with federal, state, local, tribal, territorial, foreign, or international government partners: 1) U.S. and foreign individuals in extremis situations involving potential life or death circumstances; 2) senior U.S. and foreign government officials who make public statements or provide public updates; 3) U.S. and foreign government spokespersons who make public statements or provide public updates; 4) U.S. and foreign private sector officials and spokespersons who make public statements or provide public updates; 5) names of anchors, newscasters, or on-scene reporters who are known or identified as reporters in their post or article or who use traditional and/or social media in real time to keep their audience situationally aware and informed; 6) current and former public officials who are victims of incidents or activities related to Homeland Security; and 7) terrorists, drug cartel leaders, or other persons known to have been involved in major crimes of Homeland Security interest. PII inadvertently or incidentally collected outside the scope of these discrete set of categories of individuals shall be redacted immediately before further use and sharing...
This is freaking creepy, all the way around.
In the report they speak freely about how they monitor 'social media' and the networking connections of journalists, bloggers, posters, ect.
The footnotes alone are telling... here's a couple...
Not cool.7 The SNMC analyst watch is composed of two watch analysts, one assigned to monitor social networking and the other to monitor media activity.
8 The Automated Syslog Audit System is a tool that was developed by OPS/NOC to apply industry standard blacklists and analysis of SNMC analyst entries under established SOP processes.
America- where you're free to stfu, and fast.
PS- Incidentally, a total win for Mundane Astrology... but not much of a win for anything else, not for the People, at least.Last edited by Nu Kua; Jan 10th, 2012 at 12:13 PM.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Was that a clip from the event at the Jefferson Memorial?
I am going to keep bumping this until I know all you guys see it and take it in. Do you all realize what this means?
Look at the draconian provisions included in the NDAA 2012- look at how near total power is given to the Executive branch... look how American citizens have had their rights stripped away- but don't just look there- go back to the early 2000's when the Patriot Acts and the Homegrown Terrorism Acts basically laid the framework of how nearly any old Joe Average Guy you can think of can be considered a possible threat to "U.S./DHS interests".
Journalists are grouped here along with terrorists, drug cartel leaders, dangerous criminals... it's just another building block to a totalitarian United States. If journalists or news providers can be considered CRIMINALS for this purpose of tracking them, and nobody makes a fuss about it, then the Handlers must be rubbing their hands in glee- because it is only a few steps away from having investigative journalists like Glen Greenwald, Naomi Kline, Jeremy Scahill, Stephen Webster, Justin Raimondo, Jason Ditz, Amy Goodman- not to mention citizen journalists at the various #OWS protests or anything really... people who post and keep news updated on internet forums and social media in general...how long could we make this list?- be made to stfu, or else... one day they can be plucked off the streets and tossed away.Last edited by Nu Kua; Jan 14th, 2012 at 9:24 AM.
