The return of MM

I know, I know ; technically I never left, being that I pay the bills, do the updates, and own the site... but I haven't been actively reading the message boards for quite some time. Just wanted to let everyone know, I'm back ; and hopefully we can get more people posting again. Seems dead around here

Guess all the emphasis on the main part of the site caused the forums to crawwwwlll....

Sorry for leaving the boards, heh. Hopefully we can make a few tweaks, invite a few more friends, and get some more discussion going. You'd think 2012 would be the right time...

Anyways, my name is Matt - I'm an alcoholic - wait, wrong meeting place....

I'm the owner / operator / admin / creator of the vast majority of AO, I consider it my baby.

I have been seeing this amazing girl for the past nearly... two years, sort of the reason I was neglecting the forums part of the site. I ended up flying out to the west coast, met her, spent some time there - next thing you know she's living in MN with me. Life has a funny ass way of guiding you where you need to be. Or in some cases, leaving you up shit creek without a paddle... Stupid life....

Anyways I will never make any predictions official on the site. I don't set dates or make outrageous claims. More or less I like to cover what's happening, go over some past examples, and try to relate them to how we would be effected in the future. Anyone that assumes we will never have another tsunami, megathrust earthquake, or hell - even an asteroid impact is right off the bat : "STUPID". These things can and will happen again. The assholes that make dates, predictions, and use scare tactics can basically go F- themselves.

I ain't religious, but something had to create all this. Call that what you want.

I'm neither left nor right, and I have no idea why politicians can't just agree to do what's best for people ; or in most cases, LEARN WHEN THE HELL TO LEAVE PEOPLE ALONE.

I guess if you want you can ask other questions in here. No one will likely ask, but I get e-mails all the time asking who the hell I am. Some praise, some calling me a sadist, some asking to borrow work for a "school project" and some that flat out call me a scumbag. I welcome them all. Perhaps next time I'll just direct them here, so they can at least call me names in a more public setting.

Heh, well c'mon!! It was a pretty radical idea, considering I had only left the state a few times in my life...

But yes, many people helped me go with it. None really more so than you :)

Also , while I do kinda like the new ticker and quick link bar... I personally don't use a majority of those links.... and the ticker is making my pentium 3 equivalent ....could be a video card thing on my part....

SO anyways, I click it down and off to the side that ticker goes and thats fine, but every new page I open the thing starts at the bottom again.... Anyway to keep that thing closed and off to the side when opening new AO pages?

Just demoing it for now. Could maybe make sure, even though it's a p3, java and the browser are up to date.

It shouldn't be all that taxing on the computer. It's a really simple java/css script, pretty much what powers the boards in the first place, and then some images.

P3 - with how much ram, and what kinda internet connection speed? That's the real question.

I'll have to load up my old p4 and see how that handles it.

1.5 gig ram , DSL highspeed.... 6 down and 800 up..operating linux mint 10

meh... I'm surprised nobody else has commented on the new bar yet. (Good Lord I need a better PC )

I was running ubuntu for awhile trying to get away from windows but I could not run Rosetta Stone (requires quicktime) SO I switched back to mint. I like it... has a better feel to it for me.

What do you use MM?

No I don't believe in impending Armageddon of any kind. I just think people should be ready so they don't gotta be "munsoned" at some point. Everyone who stands around with a thumb in their ass, wondering why lava is flowing through their living room - when located next to an active volcano is a moron.

If you live in a flood zone, take some time to learn about it. If you live in an earthquake zone - make sure you understand the risks. I have the key for the "basement" of this place, because every year there are a few tornadoes that make it up here. Don't ignore the warnings, don't be stupid.

As far as what LOGIC tells me, we are likely to be pegged by a massive disaster at some point - the difference is, I'm not the b-hole on the loudspeaker... on the corner... yelling at people as they drive by. That would be annoying. Earth has been here about 4.5 billion years right, with primarily 99.9% of everything that once lived... not living anymore. We currently have almost 7 billion people living in zones that the earth basically treats as it's playground. People are GOING to get fucked up, people are going to die.

Building cities under sea level, living in tornado zones, living in a flood risk area, earthquake hazards... bla blippity bloo - point is - take some time if yer serious about living.

Trutb is, even if there is no Armageddon, there will likely be trouble caused by those that expect it. So be ready anyway. We may see riots, maybe even terrorist attacks designed to cause severe unrest due to their timing with supposed Mayan End of the World stuff, we will se looneys shooting guns and so forth.

Better to be prepared and nothing happen then to sit with your thumb up your ass and be caught with your pants down.

There is an old saying

"A farmer that does not leave his own footprints in his own lands does not stay a farmer for long"

What that means is hiring managers to look after your interests doesn't work too well if you don't keep an eye on things yourself.

That's what I'm saying, be ready, be conscience of your surroundings, take a few goddamn minutes to look around and know the shit. It will save ya, it will help ya.

I should just start a section on the forums in which I could post the e-mails I get.

I get praise from some random person, good work, love the site bla bla....

Then literally the next e-mail I open is calling me a crackpot, fear monger, bla blippity bloo.
