Dark Knight Rises (spoilers of course)
I really liked it, it was an excellent piece of film. It was never going to top that last but says more about that film than this one. I did see both character reveals coming prior and during (they tried to deny Talia was in it and Robin? Young man, knows Bruce's secret, capable, parents died, important role... obvious really).
Now my biggest critical point during the previews was Anne Hathaway as Catwoman, not being sure if she was right for the part. As a big fan of the character (legitimate, not hard on), I felt that she hadn't been represented well in film. In this case I do have to put my arms in the air and say she did a fine job, nitpicks aside (the hair dammit haha!). Garry Oldman is still probably the best recurring actor in the series.
HOWEVER I do have issues with it, mostly that the narrative seemed disjointed. Also one brief scenes annoyed me being the way Bane was offed in a somewhat cartoon fashion with no weight to it. And finally this probably had the least amount of Batman in a Batman flick.Science doesn't have all of the answers... otherwise it wouldn't be science.

Saw the premier.
One of the best movies I have ever seen.
You could almost post this in the Behavior and Ethics thread, because there was so much political depth to it.
In terms of the "Cat burglar"--remember that the point of the Dark Knight trilogy is to be somewhat realistic. These aren't mutants with superpowers... There is a realistic and gritty twist on them. Thus the "Dark Knight" instead of "batman."
This taken into account, I liked the Dark Knight "catwoman" more than I have ever liked any "batman" catwoman.
Sometimes you have to use comics as a starting point, and make it better. (Same reason why I support Robin not being a lame/pointless little kid in a tight red suit).
The movie was genius, enjoyable, and it had real emotion in it. People don't relate when there's a large mutant turtle mucking things up only to be destroyed by some other "good guy" mutant.
It is the believability that gave it the emotion and the pain and the triumph. It is the believability aspect that made all the Dark Knight movies a pleasure (this one especially so).
If I wasn't such a man, I could have cried at a few scenes. It was amazing.
Actually, my eyes did water when the police were trapped underground and people were mercilessly abused in Bane's totalitarian state.... And when the police were marching on the established regime.
There was some kind of disheartening irony to see police become the outlaws who were trying to organize a revolt, and nearly being fired upon in the way protestors were shot in Czarist Russia.
But of course, I also like Dark Knight for its realistic social commentary. A continual theme is whether people are good, or really just inherently bad and interested only in their personal self preservation. Or like cowardly chameleons.Poetry is superior to history -Aristotle

In terms of cultural commentary....I didn't feel that this was appropriate in the other thread. But you mentioned that Catwoman was such an outstanding focal point of this batman film. Well, there are others who were quite unhappy that Catwoman (female lead) had the spotlight this film, rather than a male super-villain (compared to Joker in the last film, who is rather idolized.)
I find it very interesting, and not coincidental to me, that the shooter, dressed and referring to himself as Joker in the theater tragedy, made his appearance and began shooting just at the precise moment of Catwoman's entrance in the film. The reports are sure to note this detail.
In terms of what you have said, Beatnik Bob, about gritty, realistic, social commentary, I think that this point is very relevant.

The thing about Catwoman's character that needs to be emphasized is that she's one of the few costumed character's that's LESS crazy than Batman. She does, acts and dresses the way she does because she chooses to (hence the issues with Batman Returns). In the film they actually make a Robin Hood reference, which links in quite nicely to Ed Brubaker's run on Catwoman in the past, being some of the better examples in print form.

Actually, most reports I have read state that the shooter entered the first theater 15 minutes after the movie began. I don't know if this is counting commercial, but since it likely is, that means it was somewhere in the airplane scene.
Also, unless the shooter was a time traveler, or involved in the film's production, he could not have known what scene it was.
Neither here nor there though....
As far as cat woman goes, I don't consider her a villain.
There was at least one anti social Marxism theme as well. Bane creates an anti-capitalist social dystopia. In terms of what you have said, Beatnik Bob, about gritty, realistic, social commentary, I think that this point is very relevant.Poetry is superior to history -Aristotle

Just saw it! AMAZING!!! The plane scene was mind blowing and I wonder if they actually did it/how much green screen was used.
And unlike you BB I did cry a little when the (SPOILER) Robin was getting the kids on the bus knowing they were doomed but telling them it would help protect them from the bomb.
Now my main question is WILL THERE BE A ROBIN MOVIE?! Wouldn't that be awesome as long as it was done in this Universe?

Jim Crow America relegated Blacks to the back of buses. Israel wants Arabs excluded from the bus entirely.
