Sounding the Drums of War - Romney on the "Soviet" Threat
Romney lives in another era. Using "The Soviets" (er, Russia), to gear up the full-scale war machine again -- that's not a joke.
It's very clear where a presidency under Romney is headed.
Romney Camp Once Again Warns Of ‘Soviet’ Threat
Evan McMorris-Santoro July 25, 2012, 3:41 PM 11979
A foreign policy adviser to Mitt Romney’s campaign warned against policies that would aid “the Soviet Union” Wednesday, making him at least the third person from Team Romney — including Romney himself — to refer to a country that hasn’t existed since 1991 in the course of attacking President Obama’s foreign policy.
The Obama campaign has already accused Romney of having a “Cold War mindset” on foreign policy, so it naturally seized on a clip of longtime Republican diplomat Rich Williamson, a Romney adviser, speaking at the Brookings Institution Wednesday. Williamson was condemning the Obama approach to Syria.
He called the country “strategically important to the Soviet Union.”
It’s true that modern-day Russia is an ally of Syria — and has been accused of standing in the way of plans by the U.S. and other nations to aid the rebellion in that country — Williamson’s slip puts him in the pantheon of Romney supporters who have made similar missteps about the Soviets when attacking Obama’s foreign policy.
• In April, Romney adviser and former Navy secretary John Lehman accused Obama of not doing enough to protect America from the Soviets in the Arctic.
“We’re seeing the Soviets pushing into the Arctic with no response from us,” he said on a Romney campaign conference call. “In fact, the only response is to announce the early retirement of the last remaining icebreaker.”
• That same month, Romney caught himself just after he fired off a warning about the Soviet threat.
“Obama ‘entered into an agreement with the Soviets, excuse me, with Russia’ in the nuclear arms START treaty that effectively required the United States to reduce its weapons stockpile while allowing Russia to increase its stockpile,” Romney said on April 20.

And Sarah Palin can see Russia from her house. Foreign Policy a disaster in the making.
Romney's already using his election campaign to prepare for a fabricated, "Soviet", hopeful-Reagan-era full-scale war. Not a good sign.

Meh.... Nukes aren't the be all end all they used to be. I'm more fearful of the propaganda matrix.
F Romney and the rest of em.Jim Crow America relegated Blacks to the back of buses. Israel wants Arabs excluded from the bus entirely.

The really big bad al queda boogie men are being thinned out....the big name targets have for the most part, been taken out ... and its common knowledge that every president needs an enemy to protect us against. lol
Gee, I wonder if elected if Mitt will issue the old educational mandates and old cold war school drills - having kids hide under their desks in case of nuclear attack. The stupid govt did a major mind fuc on millions of kids and their parents as impressionable, helpless victims who still have that residual mentality.
With Nixon it was the Vietnamese, with Bush it was the middle east, that Mitt is circling back to the soviets is pathetic. We've already done the Koreans and with the exception of an alien invasion from outer space, who is left? Maybe they can find some maniacal despots within India or Africa to take down?
Iran is on the table as they only real possibility and they have played that propaganda card up to no end but havent yet been able to totally provoke Ahmadinejad towards outright war.
China or Mexico? Nah, China owns too much of our debt and Mexico gives us cheap labor and imports. Corporations have too much dollars vested in India, and outsourcing.
The US is starting to look more and more like the Dark Lord Sauron.
Meh, I have no doubt the US will find new enemies, even if they have to fabricate them. Every century or so true manics like Hitler, Mussolini and Hirohito rise up and actually put imperalistic invasion boots on the ground....but they are few and far between.
Otherwise, all these other wars have been nothing but bullshit reasons to heavily fund and keep our treasure war trunks budgets filled to capacity.Last edited by Lillith; Jul 27th, 2012 at 7:35 PM.

Romney like Sauron? Give the dark lord of Mordor some credit. Romney is Saruman. His advisors are wormtongue, dreams of power, plans for power, but ultimately he cannot properly execute the war.

Romney knows his constituents very well. His entire presidency, should that misfortune occur, would be geared toward the fabrication of full out war. The only cheap way, of "stimulating the economy" is with war (at the unnecessary expense of life, suffering, and internal detriment to the country). See G.Bushes for reference.
Referencing "The Soviets" is a very deliberate tactic in re-activating all the old fears and hatreds, and psychologically priming an older constituency into believing and preparing for the [un]necessity of major war. They will think Romney is the "defender" they need. And will begin to work toward making the war they want, a reality.

Most people readily agree and believe that competitive big oil company executives meet annually to set prices for the coming year. Why is it so hard for people to believe so called enemies do the exact same thing. Your elected representatives know this, but they also know you can't finance the game with truth.
The only "bad guy" is the continued ignorance.
when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature

So are you saying Russia is an enemy? I'm sure we could make them one if we wanted.
Personally I'm confused. Back in the 80s I was told to hate the Soviets and fear communism. Now I'm told to hate and fear the Muslims...... I don't want to hate anyone and I'm not really scared of any of them either. Sure there are some countries that could hurt us but they wouldn't survive it. As for an invasion of America... good luck with that Invading Germany in WW2 almost bankrupted us so what do you think the cost of a modern invasion would be?
What a bunch of bullshit (not you TC the whole defense spending issue ) intended to keep the corporate defense contractors coffers overflowing. We could spend a quarter of our current budget and still have the most powerful military in the world hands down.Be Impeccable with Your Word

You can win every battle on the field and still loose the war at home.Blessings in the name of my Lord Jesus Christ who came in the flesh and now sits at the right hand of our God on high.
A confession of faith that the modern Evangelical movement can no longer make!
