According to an audio recording of Mattis' remarks, he said, "Actually, it's a lot of fun to fight. You know, it's a hell of a hoot. ... It's fun to shoot some people. I'll be right upfront with you, I like brawling."

He added, "You go into Afghanistan, you got guys who slap women around for five years because they didn't wear a veil," Mattis continued. "You know, guys like that ain't got no manhood left anyway. So it's a hell of a lot of fun to shoot them."

Doesn't the concept of that have to be true in a military man/woman mind. I mean if they think it's sad, they won't do there job. Right?

    Talking Yeppers...war is hell!

I agree, his words are cold, but oh so true. People need to know that war is war, not some 'wag the dog' type of TV show that our networks push down our throats daily. They need to know that people are dying and that most volunteered to do the killing. Sad but true. Keep in mind he is a Marine, read about the training they endure and you will understand why he said what he said.

As a matter of fact, I'm re-reading Ralph Peters' Fighting for the Future. Among other things, he explains this warrior mentality, and how "warriors" have nothing to live for but blood. It doesn't speak so much about westerners, like this officer's remarks, but it is highly useful in understanding current world affairs, vis a vis the WOT.

It is a book definitely every westerner, regardless of political persuasion, needs to read. I don't like lots of it, and I imagine that much of you would like even less than I do... but what he says is full of truth. He explains it well. It's just a collection of essays, but it he is prophetic in many ways. He laments the wars we are fighting (before we were fighting them) but realizes thier neccesity (or the fact that they were coming)... and he lays out the reasons why. Definitely worth a read, and I'm almost sure no one will like what he has to say, but everyone will realize the truth of what he says... its a small book, and ev1 should read it... i've even taken the time to find it on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...books&n=507846
