Why do you American's like killing eachother?
I am just a simple Canadian, and I can not possibly understand why an imaginary line can seperate a country with a laughable murder rate to the country with the highest murder rate in the world (except for maybe China, but we don't know for sure). You can't blame it on guns because we have more per capa, so I would like to hear what you think about why you American's like killing eachother?

You just opened a box of Pandora, FR...
Gun control has been thoroughly debated, almost ad nauseam, in the Philosophy, Ethics & Morals forum, but I'll allow it, in the light of the recent Red Lake event.
I did see "Bowling for Columbine" by Michael Moore (not liked by everyone on this forum) and I do remember being amazed by the difference in gun related deaths between the US and Canada, indeed while guns per capita in Canada are higher than in the US. I was also (even more so) amazed by the apparent difference in mentality towards locking of houses...- If you wind up with a boring, miserable life because you listened to your parents, your teacher, your priest or some guy on TV telling you how to do your shit, then YOU DESERVE IT. It's true! Everything you've heard is true, I rarely lock my doors, and rarely lock my car, and I don't even live in a 'nice' nieghbourhood.

Just do me a favour, F.R. . .
. . .Stop standing so close to my "full-body" outline paper-targets when I'm aiming for the 'killzone' blazing away with .357 semi-wadcutters. Yer ruining my aim, and making me forget where I put my speed-six loaders. . .
. . .That WAS the typical "American" response you were hoping for, was it not? HOPE I didn't disappoint :sarcasm:

I was not hoping for a typical American response. I have always held that America has produced some of the smartest, as well as a lot of the dumbest people living. My question is a logical one, why do American's kill eachother at that rate that you do while Canadian's don't kill eachother nearly as much. What is it about that imaginary line that causes this to happen? I know the tempature drops liek 40 degrees as soon as you cross the boarder into Canada but besides that, what is it?

I don't think I will ever hunt in my life, unless I have to do it to eat...I don't even like spraying anti-bacterial stuff, let alone shooting something at something I can actually see. But this is off topic so I will stop talkinga bout it.
In a nutshell, guns should be banned to civilians, and especially 10 year olds who like to hunt.

(...It wasn't an argument, but an explanation. There's so much violence over here because everyone wants to be "gangsta" and "pimp," and there is no other way to do that then to sell drugs, beat women, listen to rap, and shoot people. Oh, and you're IQ has to be in the negative numbers.)

Ya we got those people here too, we call them wiggers, and we beat them up on a regular basis. There is actually a much larger punk population for whatever reason that look freakier but don't seem to kill eachother (just beat the shit out of eachother in the pit!). So rap is to blame? I'm not sure, it definatly has something to do with it. But what about the KKK, they don't want to be gangsta. And I've been down south the thing with the negative numbers has to be true.

I don't think that the answer is to "ban guns" becuase guns don't kill people, they are merely the method the killer chooses to kill that person. I believe certain kinds of guns should be banned like automatics, semi-automatics and handguns because of their over the top power and concealability but there will always be others ways to kill someone. Should we ban peoples hands because they could strangle someone, or knives because they could stab someone, or poison or big rocks. The answer is education and parents forcing their children to respect guns and their consequences.

Leaves allot of room for scared, desperate and paranoid people.

Where I live the wiggers are usually the posers who act "hard" but aren't really. I'm talking about the other fags who actually are in gangs.

Yeah, but the KKK doesn't really commit acts of violence anymore. But what about the KKK, they don't want to be gangsta."So, it's just me, you, and J-sexy? Dibs. I call dibs on her."--Yes, the one and only Aaron

Rap music on the whole is a little bit desturctive because of the messages it sends out and the amount of this medium that people take in. Wiggers in this case oubviously consume allot of negative material through the medium and you know what they say to much of anything is bad for you. Wiggers from experience are no more than mindless followers they act, talk and dress based on the newest trend in hip-hop culture. The fags that are in gangs are a product of adverse societal issues like poverty and poor education and the exisitng crime element in their growing enviroment.

Here are several reasons (all intertwined) as to why american's are violent:

May I ask, how exactly do you get off asking that? Do you think you are funny? America is the most diverse country in the world... it isn't possible to dig up the roots of racism, its a part of our society that is here to stay. Along with racism comes violence.......

So are you blaming diversity for America's problems, or racism as a whole? The quote of mine you used and your statement don't match up. And if you think it's because of racism, see every other country in the world (England: Skinheads v. Rastafarians; Germnay: Nazi's v. Jews; China: Government v. Tibet; and the list goes on and on. Every country in the world has problems with another race inside it's boarders, so saying that rooted racism because of diversity to blame is a bullshit arguement.

No, individual rights are the complete opposite of being in societies best interest, if it was in societies best interest they would be societal rights, not individual rights. Individualism comes out of liberalism (namely Hobbes and Locke), which is what America was founded on. If you are talking of societal rights you are either a coservative or a socialist. If I have individual freedom I don't have to help society because that's my choice, so i don't see how individual rights are in societies best interest.

I am an American, born in Bozeman, Montana. We Americans are indocternated to be fearful, for a variety of reasons. Its either to eat or defend and in some instances a status quo. We as children grow up watching Rambo, to name a few. Our society shapes our people into action figures. I dont own a gun but it is the right of americans to do so. good day!

We americans average MUCH less vacation per year then most, if not all, industrialized nations also... anywhere from two weeks to a month less per person on average.... those few weeks of extra work may be the breaking point.
I know that somedays when my alarm goes off and I have to get up for work that I just want to kill everyone I see.
I aggressively attack stupidity... If you feel I am being aggressive, well....
