I did a quiz called the belief-o-matic you can see my results here and it said I was 47% scientology which was very scary.

I'm surprised that Jake hasn't joined the church. I can't imagine anyone being sucked into a church which began as pure fiction. There's not even a central hero figure to grasp or cling to. Jake are you listening to this, you could be that hero?

Aug 18th, 2006 4:34 PM #13I disagree. Religion can have some benefits. Especially ones like Hinduism and Buddhism. Really, the only ones that are cults are the ones that don't want you to think for yourself. Many Christians fit into that, but, then again, many don't. Most religions have "sects" that could be considered a cult. That doesn't make the entire religion a cult.

I wouldn't necessarily rule this religion to be a fake just on your list alone, here's how I see it.

Everything requires money. I perfectly understand why a religion like this would be so costly, it is also true with most other religions. What other way to show your complete and utter devotion than by giving substantial portions of your labor towards an idea?2. It requires lots of money(GLobal rip off)
Just to throw some numbers out there, prescription drugs kill over 100,000 people annually, and over 2.2 million people had serious adverse affects to prescribed drugs annually. It's a simple fact that not all prescription medication is good for you! I'm not saying it's all bad either, however.3. They think Medications are evil
Last Samurai and Legend are bad ass movies.4. Tom Cruise (need I say more)
So do 99% of the world's religions.5. They promise supernatural abilities
I bet some people would classify AO as a cult. Does that count?6. Has been categorized as a cult by some experts
So does Catholicism.7. Has ranks like the military
And? So are my credit card bills! They wanna be secretive? Let them!8.Most information is classified to the public
Christians believe all sorts of crazy shit, if you think about it. I'm sure I don't need to list examples.9.they believe aliens souls are trapped in our bodies
Pulp Fiction is a bad ass movie.10.John Travolta

Aug 19th, 2006 12:10 PM #18I guess I can go with you there. Two years ago in my English class, using the definition of cult found in the dictionaries there, we put together evidence that our school could be considered a cult. It was supposed to teach us how a literal meaning of a word is much different from the connotation of the word. When you think of the word cult, not very many positive images come to mind. While many institutions can fit the literal definition of cult, not many, including religions, fit the connotation of cult. You may not agree with a religious practice or find the beliefs "odd", but they are not so out there as to be considered by the mainstream population as a cult.

When you compare the how screwy Scientology is to Christianity I think Scientology wins.
When I first heard of it especially the whole Supernaturaul abilities thing I though "The Mutant" club? Christianity may be hard to believe but at least it doesn't hqve totaly way out there things in it like "Join and get super naturaul powers".
AO is about one thing. Going around in loops. No one cares to learn, they only care to live inside their boxes and ignore the truth!

lol, at least christianity has the forethought to promise things after you die so that their promises are unvarifiable.

"Christians believe all sorts of crazy shit, if you think about it. I'm sure I don't need to list examples."
Please do...I'm curious to see your very sad attempt at listing examples of christians believing in all sorts of crazy shit...Insults out of the way..Why does your opinion of what "crazy shit" is matter? To me, and millions others, this "crazy shit" happens to actually be great stuff. Before I go own though, please, just list some "crazy shit" for me.For I was hungry and you gave me food,
I was thirsty and you gave me drink,
I was a Stranger and you Welcomed me,
I was naked and you clothed me,
I was sick and you visited me,
I was in prison and you came to me.
Truly, I say to you,
as you did it to one of the least of these,
my brethren,
you did it to me.
